Edge Rusher Stat

Toth029 : 10/18/2021 3:26 pm
For all the chatter about Leonard Williams and Dexter Lawrence, and the stat we saw last week how they're so often double teamed. Yet...

"Lorenzo Carter, Oshane Ximines and Azeez Ojulari all had ZERO total pressures for the #Giants against the Rams in 51 combined pass rushing snaps.

In the last two weeks, they have one pressure in 100 combined pass-rushing snaps."

Suffice it to say,

we need new and better edge rushers given that they keep getting single-blocked and not win individual matchups. Still can't understand keeping Carter and Ximines.

Has been talking about this for a decade. I think he may be ready to take out a billboard in front of the stadium.

I would chip in.

Maybe, instead of a Giant award, we fund a billboard close to the stadium asking Mara to sell?

On the way to one of the busy exits.
I’ve been saying for weeks

Why doesn’t Roche get a chance. He’s a better pass rusher than oshane by a mile. He’s probably better than azeez as well. In limited chances he has a few pressures. Makes zero sense why he was inactive. This staff can’t evaluate a piece of shit and determine it’s fecal matter

It's why we brought back Solder just to grenade any Hope of Jones becoming a good qb.
And you wonder why Peart is slow developing ... look who he goes

against in practice every day ... iron sharpens iron ... butter on the other hand doesn’t help much.
This is both

Pathetic and sad
The franchise
darren in pdx : 10/18/2021 4:03 pm : link
has not valued the pass rush in years. It's sad, they invested everything in the secondary when they should have invested in the LB'ers more. They bought into last year's results thinking Graham would scheme up pressure..and the only guys that made it happen last season are either injured or on another team right now.

Having a tremendous pass rush can hide a lot of warts in the secondary, and the only chance you'll have to stop an offense in today's NFL by disrupting the QB as much as possible. They've been watching how much their shit OL has been affecting their own QB for years and still don't get it.

as good as they were

identifying 4-3 DEs under Coughlin/Reese, they've been equally poor at picking 3-4 OLBs.
Carter Coughlin
Lenny in Indy : 10/18/2021 4:13 pm : link
Besides moving Peart to LT which didn't make much sense based on past utilization, I don't understand why Carter Coughlin isn't getting more snaps. He seems to flash every time he plays.
One pressure in the last 100 snaps?
Jimmy Googs : 10/18/2021 4:31 pm : link
That is almost impossible.

That is one more pressure than not being on the field at all...

What happened to the scouting for 4-3 DEs after drafting JPP in 2010? Seemed to drop off after that.

Couple names off the top of my head.

Demontre Moore and Owa Odighizuwa.

Moore bounced around the league, but Odiggy bust hard.
Ojulari
bc4life : 10/18/2021 5:08 pm : link
has 3 sacks and he's a rookie - he has a learning curve
Something about coaching:
Angel Eyes : 10/18/2021 5:09 pm : link
I've observed that most of the time, everyone who's rushing the passer is trying to win with power; bull rush. Now I'm not sure if we're being coached right or we don't have the talent; Ojulari in particular isn't really a power rusher, he wins with speed and bend, with one move around the edge in his rip move. Doesn't seem to be using it at all.

Is this a tactics and coaching error?
thinking back to the pre-draft talk
bc4life : 10/18/2021 5:11 pm : link
Oweh and Rousseau have 3 as well
Thank you Dave G.
jeff57 : 10/18/2021 5:20 pm : link
I don’t know about Ojulari, but Carter and Ximines are totally hopeless as pass rushers.
What
Les in TO : 10/18/2021 5:20 pm : link
A joke. Even Jamal Duff Frankie Ferrara and Cedric Jones were better than this.
They were excellent at it
Lines of Scrimmage : 10/18/2021 6:12 pm : link
Strahan was a holdover but then Osi, Tuck, Kiwanuka, JPP. Very good at DT’s that came right in and produced. Brady called them trees.

Not much after 2011. Something had to change in what they were looking for. Even the DT slipped with Austin.

It seems the bad things started around 2010 so hopefully someone can solve that problem.

Yeah, but that's because they've been so focused on the run... oh wait. :-(
Add to the lack of pressure from the outside
Hammer : 10/18/2021 10:27 pm : link
the fact that they can't set the edge agains the run either.

It is truly pathetic.
