I've always been an optimist, and I understand the fans displeasure with how the team is performing. It truly has been a disastrous decade of football.
However, if I'm Mara, I'm doubling down on Judge and some of the core pieces here. Jones, Thomas, Toney, Barkley on offense, and LW, Lawrence, Martinez, Bradberry on defense.
There is talent in the room, much more so than after 2017, where many of our most talented players were in their late 20s, and Eli was in the twighlight of his career.
I really do think Jones can be the guy, I love his skillset, and I think things would look very different if we didn't fuck up washington and atlanta, which are games we should have won. We were never winning against dallas/rams with so many players injured.
I'm all for firing gettleman, he's not the future anyway.
But, if i'm going into next year with the number of high picks we have, I still think we can turn things around pretty quick. Draft two edge rushes, an o-lineman, a DT, and a LB in the first 100 picks and then build our depth on the backend, and we have a young, cheap roster, with ample cap space in 2023 moving forward.
We'll have to manage a few bad contracts next year in Logan Ryan and Adoree Jackson (who I think is god awful). But we can cut Rudolph, maybe trade Shepard, and basically most of our roster will be young, talented, and on the up and up.
I don't favor cutting Judge because I think we've had too much turmoil here, I think he is well liked by his players, and I think if we show some fight the rest of the year, he deserves one more year.
Next year is a prove it year for sure, I'm sure the new GM will give him a shot and if it's more of the same, then he will be allowed to pick his own coach.
I'm hoping Jones rebounds from last week. The majority of his turnovers were not his fault, any QB would fumble if they are hit while their attempting a throw. And the 1 pick where shep fell down wasn't on him either, I chalk it up to Jones pressing and trying to do too much. Remember Eli against the Vikings in 07?
"X deserves another year."
"Give Y another chance to show what he can do."
"Z gets another opportunity after (insert excuse)."
That all indicates a culture where people are repeatedly given opportunities to prove their incompetence rather than one where the cream rises to the top of a competitive process.
Further, this roster has no core. Take a look at when the current players arrived here. There are 2 guys out of 53 that were here before 2018 - Shepard and Engram. That's a 96% turnover in less than 3.5 seasons.
You can expect something similar going forward. By the time 2024 rolls around a handful of this roster will still be here. 2025, less than 5 guys.
My advice would be not to buy any jerseys.
Aside from that, I'll quote the Mad King from Game of Thrones:
"Burn them all."
OH YEAH!!
LW and Bradberry are good, but very expensive. Martinez is good, young enough, and worth keeping. Logan Ryan and Adoree Jackson were bad signings. Jackson simply stinks, Ryan was good last year, but predictably got overpaid by DG.
As I've said repeatedly, many here were way too impressed with a 6-10 team last year that won 5 of those games against teams with a combined 28-50-2 record, ALL with backup QB's. We should not have been FA buyers this off season. This was a bad team last year, and it's a bad team this year.
Giants promote Abrams and Petit to give Judge "continuity".
The team has to completely quit for Judge to get canned. The Mara family really likes him. And as mentioned by others, you can't keep firing coaches after 2 seasons.
The D almost needs to be totally rebuilt. Forget scheme, just more good players.
I am not seeing how you can commit to a second contract to Jones. Fine if he stays next year but if you feel you have a clear upgrade than move on that.
The point above brings me to next years draft. They have five premium picks with potential for two top 12 picks and a high second. They need to get in order who is making those and coaching those selections. That could really turn things around if they hit on all of them with the few impact players already present.

I don't think we should sleep on Kyle O'Brien as an internal GM candidate. Not sure if that's good or bad, don't know a lot about him, but I think he was brought in as another option for Gettleman replacement

It's not even the 2nd contract, a decision needs to be made this spring about whether to exercise Jones's 5th year at ~$20M. My feeling had been sure, it's only one year, unless we have a better option, but now I'm not so sure. If he doesn't play with more consistency the rest of the way, I don't know how you guarantee him a 5th year.
We "only" need
-3 to 4 starting offensive lineman.
- 2 edge rushers.
- 2-3 linebackers that can actually play.
- safeties and corners that can cover.
- tight end
- And probably a quarterback.
- Not to mention the "good" players that are constantly injured to just stay healthy one of these years.
If all those things happen than the Giants aren't that far away!

Exactly. And who is doing this player acquisition because this current crew has shown they are poor talent evaluators even with premium draft picks. 10 years of horrible drafting and some bad luck got the team here, they all need to go.
