Rookie Heat Check: Penei Sewell has struggled. His four sacks allowed are second only to the Raiders’ Alex Leatherwood among rookies, and his pressures allowed (23) are tied for second-most in the league overall. One potential reason for the slow start? A finger injury to left tackle Taylor Decker caused chaos on the Lions’ offensive line just days before the Week 1 opener. Sewell, who played left tackle at Oregon but was prepping to debut at right tackle in Detroit, instead flipped back to the left. His acclimation has been up-and-down ever since. |
"Oh, he's a rookie, he will be fine."
For Thomas, from some on this board and others including the media...
"Lmao Giants picked the worst Tackle. Way to go Gettleman!"

Have you actually heard Lions' fans say this? I'm sure they're frustrated with his play right now.
Just sub the Giants for the Lions and it's the same story as Thomas. That's how low the Giants have sunk. The past 10 years they're the Lions.
Your posts points out why
But we don't see the media talking heads or posts across message boards be it Reddit or wherever exclaiming the Lions made a mistake, or something along those lines.
That's what we saw with Thomas and it was unnecessary.
[quote] you mean there are other rookies that struggle
Imagine that.

That's the way it is in CrazyBBIville
Sewell has nothing in common with last years class rankings except the position he plays and the fact that was drafted to a horrible team and thrown to the wolves too. So save the what about's and Festivus airing of the aggrieved Giants. As usual neither applies.

There was some of that, but most of BBI was, while maybe frustrated, preaching patience.

The majority of BBI was declaring a bust after the NE preseason game this year.

Sewell plays LT, so its worth comparing him to Thomas and Wills, and I guess Becton whenever he's able to play. Wirfs at RT isn't an apples to apples comparison.

A lot of people had Slater ahead of him too.
Point is, Sewell had a lot of hype and got heavy once-in-a-decade type of Leff Tackle. He's struggling- that's fine! But you don't find it a little ridiculous how crazy Giant fans and those in the media, for example Louid Riddick, reacted to Thomas struggling the same way? You can't compare situations because they're all different. But that does not stop the months upon months of awful takes from happening. It was unfair to Thomas and made whoever did the hysteria look like a child.
This myth again. Riddick the TV analyst is different from Riddick the GM that would've actually interviewed and worked Haskins out.
A lot of people had Slater ahead of him too.
I think Jeremiah did. And right now, Slater is playing his way into a top T in the NFL. He's been a stud.

I wouldn't say majority, but weirdly, there seemed to be more after the NE game than there were earlier last year.
Okudah wasn't good before injury either. To me, he was labeled as this cant-miss CB prospect hence he was drafted and projected to be picked so high. Is it poor scheme? Poor technique? He wasn't a speedster, so it's likely a combination of a bunch of things.
Unlike Slater, maybe the year off really impacted Sewell's play the wrong way and it's going to take longer for him to find his pre-Covid form. Or maybe he hit his ceiling in college like Robert Gallery.
