Noel and Taj out again expecting more small ball tonight.
This could definitely be a trap game for the Knicks Orlando with a feisty young roster and we get our first look at Jalen Suggs and Franz Wagner.
Good test for this Knicks team. Can they get more out of Quickley and Walker tonight? Can any of the rookies contribute at all? Depth is their strength, and tonight they need the depth.
for the Knicks. They need to give max effort any night to win. They are not exactly an elite team
8 point favorite.
Knicks won 41 games last year vs a team that won 21 and gutted their team for a rebuild, coming off an emotional 2 OT win at home traveling to Orlando.
And BTW they are in the upper part of the eastern conference.

I think the Magic have some nice pieces going forward: I like Carter & am a Bamba fan. Suggs could be good. And Fultz & Isaac-both out-have long term potential.
But this team might be the worst in the league. And the Knicks are doing what we should expect them to do: kicking their fucking ass.
I can't believe I'm at a sports stage where I expect the Knicks to dominate a lesser opponent & expect the Giants to get their asses kicked each weekend.
The other night I stumbled upon the 30 for 30 on the Shaq-Penny Magic. Definitely a good watch. I remember thinking they were going to own the East for a decade.
We blow an 8 point lead at the end of regulation w/ a min remaining in the 1st game, but then actually keep our composure and pull out the win in OT?
Then we play a young rebuilding Magic team who we should blow out... and we actually blow them out? Instead of playing down to the competition and inexplicably allowing them to hang around the whole game?
I know it's still incredibly early but this refreshing.
Granted I did die about 5 times on Wednesday night which is about par for the course for a Knicks game but still... baby steps.
I think the big question for the Knicks is when they make the trade
for a legit star. As much as we're liking Fournier so far, they probably acquired Fournier to flip him midseason or before the start of next season for a star who wants to be traded or on a team that's rebuilding

The Bucks I'll give you simply because they're the champs. The Lakers still need to prove themselves IMO. There are definitely no guarantees over the course of an 82 game season + long playoffs with team whose average age is 32.

The Bucks are deeper than the Knicks. I don't think there's a question about that. The Lakers are on paper deeper than the Knicks but you're right about the fact they could suffer a ton of injuries due to age
I should've said "one of the deepest teams in the NBA." Could probably make an argument a couple other teams are deeper too if we're talking 1-10. I was also more thinking of it as 1-15, meaning all the way down to the last guy on the bench, they could POTENTIALLY be the deepest depending on the strides Obi and Quick make, along with if the rookies can look anywhere near as good as they looked in SL and progress this season. But I admit obviously if we're saying "potentially" about young guys we could say that about a lot of players/teams. And usually SL ends up meaning nothing anyway so who truly knows what we have in McBride/Grimes/Sims yet.
Obi with two corner 3s and now a highlight reel dunk
I think Thibs feels more comfortable that this bench can play D with the changes made
Obi's defense has improved dramatically from his rookie season. He covers a lot of ground on that end. Could be an underrated defender
Yep. Glad to see hard work has paid off. Thibs, for his good qualities, can get too overly optimistic about how fast teams can come back. I think if we can get our starters playing fewer minutes in blowouts it will keep them fresher for the playoffs.
Rose is going to have a + most night because thr Knicks bench is going to be better than the team they are playing most nights
no doubt but just thought that's awesome having barely even played half the game. But you're right that's the way it was most of last year too. Just Payton digging us into holes and Rose digging us out, and a lot of it with that 2nd unit. I remember Payton was something like -70 during that stretch where the Knicks were 12-1, so imagine what Rose's + must have been for that stretch LOL
The Magic are going to be in the running for the #1 pick

Yeah and i dont even think Rose has played that well yet..
Knicks play the Sixers next week. They haven't beaten them in a while IIRC. That's actually going to be a big regular season game to see where the Knicks stand
Last year they lost a fair number of games where they outplayed their opponent but lost because they couldn’t score enough points. If Randle had an off night, it was hard to find enough points to win. Should be a lot less of that this year.
I think they have a great chance of breaking the NBA record for 3s in a season. They had 25 in a preseason game. They had 24 tonight. There are too many good 3 point shooters on this team (imagine that) and there will be a game where it clicks.
They have been horrible from the line.
Can't believe Philly gave this game away.
Knicks, Bulls, Hawks, and Miami are going to push philly,Bucks and Nets to play every night.
They are not going to roll to 60 wins anymore
Since the 2014-15 season, no one has held their opponent to a lower shooting % than KD. KD is #1 and AD is #2. And obviously since that's a percentage stat it's not like players who came into the league after 2014 are at a disadvantage or something. That's just crazy to me-- for all people talk about KD not being a great defensive player, he's extremely underrated in that area. Amazing stat considering he's been most certainly the best offensive player in the league since that time as well (not going by stats on that latter one just general logic).
I'm enjoying the no-superstars-14 players deep approach. All alone in 1st place in the division (OK, 2-0, lol)! I like that J. Sims is contributing already with Noel and Taj out. I think all three rookies will make it in the NBA.
Obi Toppin has made significant improvements in his game. He looks so much more confident on the court and can play along side Randle. He now needs to work on his FT's.
For me IQ takes some crazy shots that are forced. He needs to settle down and let the game come to him. He is a scorer though. I love the Walker/Rose PG combo. They just need to stay healthy.Fournier is a great addition to the starting 5.
MSG is going to be rocking this year.
Yes, most teams only played 1 game and we played 2, one of which was double overtime. And, yes, this will change. The point is this team had a goal in mind this offseason and that was to improve the offense. So far so good.
1. If Randle goes back to long stretches of iso ball then someone needs to smack him upside the head. The ball movement last night was phenomenal. They need to continue with that as more players are able to get in rhythm.
2. The chemistry that Randle and Fournier have already is awesome. They play off each other so well.
you got 3 "stars" who dont fit together whatsoever, you have an old bench that cant hold up their end of the bargain
The roster really just doesn't fit. Besides Pelinka having Lebron choose to sign there and Davis force his way there, has he made one good move?
They won title so he gets credit but some of his moves have made zero sense. How does he let Caruso walk for nothing? That roster is just so old. I just can't see the Westbrook move working out, especially given the other options. They could have just kept Caruso, KCP and traded for Hield instead. That is a much better fit and outcome.

But we’re in a good place right now. We don’t have to do anything until some star springs free. I’m not even sure I’d liquify things for a guy like lilliard. For an even swap of Walker or rose sure but Portland ain’t doing that. We’d have to deal all the youth and chips yet we have two good PGs here already. Lliard is an upgrade and younger but we’re not getting much better swapping rose/Walker for lillaird despite trading every chip we have.
like they were born with the ball in their hands. I don't need him to be Kyrie, but he needs to work on it.
Thibs likes Burks, I just wish Grimes can have more playing time. He mirrors very well on defense, despite not being a top athlete, you can see why Thibs wanted to draft him.
I thought Robinson was gone for 2 months when he fell to the floor. Thank god he's okay. He makes a huge difference for us and he's not even in shape yet.

For now I’m fine watching this team win 54 games.
Yea this team is going to be very good and a tough out in the playoffs. A star is coming at some point, they’re confident of it but also aren’t going to trade for one just to trade for one. The process is working.
OKC dropped its first two games by 21 and 33 points, respectively. Their starters around SGA are Luguentz Dort, Josh Giddey, Darius Bazley and Isaiah Roby, for God’s sake. Presti will build a good team eventually, but that’s three years away at minimum. Send that young man to the Big Apple.

Pellinka gets zero credit from me. He didn’t do anything. LeBron and AD went there because it’s LA. The Laker name, weather and lifestyle brought them, not Pelinka. How many stars could Pelinka persuad to come if he was running the Timbervolves? Or Pistons? He’s got the easiest job on the planet and he’s still finding ways to screw it up.

Same here I was already processing Mitch about 6 weeks. So was Clyde.
First Knicks or NBA game he's ever been to (would've taken him sooner if Knicks hadn't sucked most of his life). What a great game! We got there at about 5:30. Everyone was super nice, even though we were wearing enemy colors.
I kinda felt bad for the magic fans. What a horrible home opener for them and it seemed about half the crowd was Knicks fans.

He just signed his extension in August he knew what OKC looked like.
OKC doesn't need anymore picks and have committed to grow around him.
I think it will be Mitchell, probably not this season, maybe not even next offseason, but i think he will be the next star to ask out
I think it could be Mitchell as soon as next season, because there have been times Mitchell hasn't been happy there, and being the man in NYC has to appeal to him, as a New Yorker
It can't be him if he remains unvaccinated against COVID. He wouldn't be able to play home games due to NYC's vax mandate. It would be a Kyrie situation
Only has two years left on his deal after this year and lowballing Ayton + whatever story is about to drop on Sarver is going to make things messy there. His contract (and KAT's) also track with where Rose structured each contract to expire. All 3 are former Rose clients but Booker and KAT are both Kentucky guys as well.

Yeah, I know it’s illogical on the surface and certainly won’t happen this year, but guys like to lock in their money and figure the rest out later. And Presti wheels and deals like a day trader. And the Kentucky connections…
Down the road it really wouldn’t shock me.
I'd actually like to see if RJ or Obi can develop into the star
on this thread, I was only referring to a scenario where Dame asked out of Portland, because he's the only guy who I think is worth it who could be available before the season is over. Otherwise, I say roll with what we have, see if RJ or Obi become a star (or even IQ if Kemba or Rose get a long term injury) and then see what happens in the offseason

As good as Devin Booker is, he doesn't strike me as the kind of guy interested in playing in NYC. Donovan Mitchell is from Westchester
PHX is built for now.
Cp3 is long in the tooth and plays a tough position for longevity.
I think Dame stays in Portland for at least this year that team will win 45 games and be in the playoff hunt.
AD might be the guy asking out if that team continues to be dysfunctional

OKC is going to trade SGA, the whole league knows it. He signed the extension because he could get more money and didn’t have to risk playing on a one year QO.
The star coming to the Knicks will in all likelyhood be SGA or Mitchell according to the Knicks front office’s plan.

Good riddance.
J. Sims was minus 7 in 7 minutes last game -
wonder if we see him tonight, lol. Could see more of the small ball lineup with Obi and Randle together.
Fuck.

WTF is going on? Is the Earth still on its axis?
He's definitely getting traded or bought out. It wouldn't be a surprise if he and brother Brook Lopez are reunited in Milwaukee or something like that
Him & Brook are like Disney lovers so he probably loves being in the Magic City.

The Bucks I'll give you simply because they're the champs. The Lakers still need to prove themselves IMO. There are definitely no guarantees over the course of an 82 game season + long playoffs with team whose average age is 32.

for a legit star. As much as we're liking Fournier so far, they probably acquired Fournier to flip him midseason or before the start of next season for a star who wants to be traded or on a team that's rebuilding
I'm probably in the minority but I personally would love to see this thing ride out this season with no major trades for stars. I love how deep this team is 1-15 and I think our depth is our real strength. The once chance we stand against teams that have 3-4 stars in their starting lineup is the fact that we may be the deepest team in the NBA. If we gut our depth just to be able to say we have an extra star and then we think that's gonna help us compete for a title? I just don't see that being the case personally. I think this team has great chemistry and if they stay close to 100% healthy and continue to grow together I say they could shock a lot of people late in the season. Maybe that's the homer in me talking though.

The Bucks are deeper than the Knicks. I don't think there's a question about that. The Lakers are on paper deeper than the Knicks but you're right about the fact they could suffer a ton of injuries due to age
I think Thibs feels more comfortable that this bench can play D with the changes made

Obi's defense has improved dramatically from his rookie season. He covers a lot of ground on that end. Could be an underrated defender
But if he can improve his trade value...

Yeah where the hell is McBride's minutes here?

no doubt but just thought that's awesome having barely even played half the game.

Yeah and i dont even think Rose has played that well yet..
I think Chicago is going to be really good.
Knicks play the Sixers next week. They haven't beaten them in a while IIRC. That's actually going to be a big regular season game to see where the Knicks stand
Hopefully Mitch is okay.

We need Noel and Taj back for that game.

Thisb said Mitch was fine
he is awful
Can't believe Philly gave this game away.
Knicks, Bulls, Hawks, and Miami are going to push philly,Bucks and Nets to play every night.
They are not going to roll to 60 wins anymore
Very active setting screens. That’s what I noticed from him this evening.
Keep the team just the way it is.
Let's see what this team can be before we break it up.
You don’t get better. Maxey is a nice change of pace guy but there is no true ball handler on that team.
Dwight will probably be looking for another team tomorrow
That’s not even a question. If you can get a true superstar, you get him.
Believe it or not, there aren't any Kyrie for Ben Simmons talks ongoing

Lol

Because I think Ben is also unvaccinated
I'm enjoying the no-superstars-14 players deep approach. All alone in 1st place in the division (OK, 2-0, lol)! I like that J. Sims is contributing already with Noel and Taj out. I think all three rookies will make it in the NBA.
For me IQ takes some crazy shots that are forced. He needs to settle down and let the game come to him. He is a scorer though. I love the Walker/Rose PG combo. They just need to stay healthy.Fournier is a great addition to the starting 5.
MSG is going to be rocking this year.
2. The chemistry that Randle and Fournier have already is awesome. They play off each other so well.
That is a much better fit and outcome.

not challenging two obvious plays that would’ve gone his way.

Doc has coached what, 3 or 4 teams that have blown 3-1 series leads?

you got 3 "stars" who dont fit together whatsoever, you have an old bench that cant hold up their end of the bargain

Rich Paul isn’t a good team builder
For now I’m fine watching this team win 54 games.

Yea this team is going to be very good and a tough out in the playoffs. A star is coming at some point, they’re confident of it but also aren’t going to trade for one just to trade for one. The process is working.
Damn I would love Mitchell, my second favorite non-knick after Dame
Bring him home.

I kinda felt bad for the magic fans. What a horrible home opener for them and it seemed about half the crowd was Knicks fans.

at the moment. The question is do you keep the depth or do you trade for a star? Will be a very interesting season to say the least.

I agree. We don’t even know what some of these young guys, like Obi can ultimately become.

The Magic have fans? Haha.
He just signed his extension in August he knew what OKC looked like.
OKC doesn't need anymore picks and have committed to grow around him.
I think it could be Mitchell as soon as next season, because there have been times Mitchell hasn't been happy there, and being the man in NYC has to appeal to him, as a New Yorker
Yeah, I know it’s illogical on the surface and certainly won’t happen this year, but guys like to lock in their money and figure the rest out later. And Presti wheels and deals like a day trader. And the Kentucky connections…
Down the road it really wouldn’t shock me.
As good as Devin Booker is, he doesn't strike me as the kind of guy interested in playing in NYC. Donovan Mitchell is from Westchester
Cp3 is long in the tooth and plays a tough position for longevity.
I think Dame stays in Portland for at least this year that team will win 45 games and be in the playoff hunt.
AD might be the guy asking out if that team continues to be dysfunctional

OKC dropped its first two games by 21 and 33 points, respectively. Their starters around SGA are Luguentz Dort, Josh Giddey, Darius Bazley and Isaiah Roby, for God’s sake. Presti will build a good team eventually, but that’s three years away at minimum. Send that young man to the Big Apple.

OKC is going to trade SGA, the whole league knows it. He signed the extension because he could get more money and didn’t have to risk playing on a one year QO.
The star coming to the Knicks will in all likelyhood be SGA or Mitchell according to the Knicks front office’s plan.
Can’t believe you surround Luka with Finney Smith and Dwight Powell. And over pay Tim Hardaway.

Kidd was a disaster in Milwaukee. He leaves & the Bucks become a 60 win team. Haha.

Luka doncic is the guy I want to be unhappy, where the Knicks are now I wouldn’t bother with a lot of these guys
