….that belongs on the field”. Armani well dressed Toomer in today’s ny post re: 2021 giants….Toomer made some tough, hard nosed catches for the nyg championship teams.
I remember on the NFL Special on the 2002 Playoff games vs. SF, Toomer was very hard on Trey Junkin after his two bad snaps on FGs, particularly the one at the end which cost Matt Bryant a chance at the game winner. Said he wanted to kill Junkin and even now, would not speak to Junkin if he saw him. That was harsh. Poor Trey Junkin was only signed out of retirement that same week. Had nothing to say about the defense blowing a 24 pt. lead with a little more than a quarter to go

Yeah poor poor Trey. All he had to do was snap a fucking football, something he did his whole life. Pretty sure no one is gonna feel bad for me if i misfile a report and get chewed out by my coworkers for making us look bad lmao.
RE: RE: I watch other NFL games and think we'd get smoked by most of them
Yup. Bottom 5 talent in the league. The coaches know it so they are ultra conservative.
Total mess.
Really is night and day watching other teams around the NFL each Sunday. There are plays that other teams run, and I think to myself, no way the Giants would run that

You're giving the coaching staff too much credit. Maybe they are being ultra conservative because of the talent level but that ain't working either. There's been a couple times where being aggressive may have actually led to a win, despite the dreck on this roster.
The staff is just as bad as the talent. You can make a case it's worse. There are losers everywhere.
I thought about this on the way into work this morning.
We have had 3 head coaches in 6 years that had a combined 9 NFL wins as head coach prior to joining the Giants. I think we need to think long and hard about that with the next hire.
We need to find someone that's proven that have somewhat of a clue how to run a successful program, preferably relatively recently.

That's not unfair. The coaches aren't doing a good job either. I do sympathize more with them though. The players are fucking moribund.
JT O'Sullivan did a breakdown of Daniel Jones against the Rams. It's worth watching. Conclusions to draw from it - everything sucks. Jones, the OL, the scheme...all are awful.

If you don't have the talent, you might as well play aggressively. Ultra conservative play-not-to lose coaching gives you 38-11 losses. How can it get any worse? Maybe playing aggressively will get something (anything) going.

I agree. At least let them have fun out there. Who knows, maybe they'll find something that works.
RE: RE: So many of you can say the same thing on the Gameday Threads
Looked good after the Saints game, didn't they? Injuries change a lot.
It's not like they're a decent team that got devastated by injuries. They've been an awful team for years now. If you're determined to give them the benefit of the doubt, you're obviously welcome to see things however you'd like, but at least acknowledge that you're just making excuses for a team that hasn't really earned those excuses for years.

The staff is just as bad as the talent. You can make a case it's worse. There are losers everywhere.
And you're being completely unfair. SO any time they were aggressive on play calls you think it's worked out in any of their close games?
Unless you're going to suggest in not one close game did they call one aggressive play? Not one call that maybe didn't work out that could've cost them an important drive or on defense which might've resulted in a stop that they otherwise didn't get or field position that eventually came back to bite them?
So the coach needs to be perfect, right? He must be aggressive ta the exact right time you say so, and on the other hand not too aggressive ta the right time you say so too?
If no- Danny - please be the coach.
The problem is some of you want the coach to manage being exactly how you want the team to play regardless if they have the talent or not. Not very aggressive play works and has consequences too. And this team was supposed to suck. SO just blindly paly aggressive win or lose? With a team for such crummy talent - how can that help? No matter what- the coach is not always going to make a right call. Lousy talented teams don't make it better.
I remember on the NFL Special on the 2002 Playoff games vs. SF, Toomer was very hard on Trey Junkin after his two bad snaps on FGs, particularly the one at the end which cost Matt Bryant a chance at the game winner. and the defense is mediocre even when healthy. But otherwise the team is not a TOTAL embarrassment. They lost twice on last second field goals (lousy defense) and their offensive weapons are currently on the shelf so it's hard to see where the next win is coming from. But when Toomer says they don't look like a team, he's implying that the players are there ready to be coached but they're not being coached. Toomer should tell us in what way the coaching staff has failed the players.
Looked good after the Saints game, didn't they? Injuries change a lot.
It truly baffling that posters are still saying this.
Do you blame the injuries for being completely non competitive against the Broncos? Injuries for losing to Washington with a backup QB?
The defense has one key injury. Is missing Blake Martinez the reason they gave up 40 points in consecutive weeks? Which could have been 50 points if they teams wanted.
I thought about this on the way into work this morning.

Yes, the refs should bail out a professional football team that can't execute a basic football play and instead heaves a shot duck to a lineman rumbling downfield to cover the punt.
If they wanted to referee pee wee football they would have stayed home.

I don't agree with this. If they were right there to win on last second field goals then how can anyone say they don't look like a team? Beating professional is an accomplishment even when you're great. When you're winning the game through the final minute etc then how can anyone reasonably say "you don't look like team?"
I thought about this on the way into work this morning.

Injuries is such a bullshit excuse for this team.
His post definitely was truly baffling.
But to be fair the Giants lost two very, very good run stoppers which includes Tomlinson, and decent enough run stopper in BJ Hill.
And as a 6-10 they were last year, most 6-10 teams have awful depth. The dropoff of two players to an extreme level that were - let's be frank- EXCELLENT run defenders is going to hurt big time.
In the front 7 they have two guys above average on run defense and the others are below or suck, right?
We're going to bring back Ojulari next year but for the front 7 playing right now you can only rely on LW and DL.
Yup. Bottom 5 talent in the league. The coaches know it so they are ultra conservative.

YEa the Rams run that sweep thing that Garret used to call sometimes -- which always led to this place blowing up whenever he called it. It actually works when you have a good team runningit!
Week that was true, as they looked like SUNY against Alabama. the other losses, they were still within reach of winning until the 4th quarter.
SO now teams get an "atta boy" for being close going into the 4th quarter?
This is what I mean by how so many people have accepted losing.
don’t get me wrong….I’m not accepting the status quo. But I also think it’s an exaggeration that the Giants haven’t belonged on the same field as their opponents all season. The Washington and Atlanta games came down to the wire and Denver/Dallas losses were close at the half. It’s not like every week was a massacre like the Rams game.
Looked good after the Saints game, didn't they? Injuries change a lot.

Almost every bad team in NFL history had managed to look good 1, 2, 3, or even 4 times a year.

For the last 7 minutes of the 4th Quarter and OT they looked good. The other 53 minutes not so much.
