"I'm a team player," Collins said. "Do I like playing down there? I'm good at it. If I'm good at it, I'll play there. If I need to be played there, cool. Other than that, do I like playing linebacker? No. No I don't. I don't like hitting big linemen, getting big linemen off me. I'm undersized for being a linebacker. So yeah, I don't want to play down there, but if need to, yeah, I'll do so. I'm good at it."
"I've made more plays at safety than I've ever made at linebacker," Collins said. "I know what to read, I know how to play it, I know where I can cheat at, I know where to disguise it, I know how to make things work."

I guess when you're bad enough at S, you make he transition. He's battled inconsistency and injury since he's arrived in DC. He is better off, assuming he can stay healthy, to move over full time. His coverage and speed is just not compatible with the modern NFL offense.

An upgrade over Crowder.
Spags and the Giants tried. He didn't want to. Guy is at a point now where he's benched as a S because he's been so bad.
Collins, back in May, said:
“I was just laughing at it,” Collins said of the linebacker speculation. “I was drafted as a safety, and that's where I was going to be. If somebody was to come talk to me about it, we would talk about it. That's about it. If we have packages to put me into play [at linebacker], I'm always open to it. I'd rather have us all DBs on the field anyway. The more DBs, the more merrier.”
Completely agree! I don't about you guys but Xavier Mckinney isn't exactly lighting things up out there. Worst thing Graham could do is put Peppers in a position NOT to succeed, which is what he's doing at the moment! At least Peppers has some fire under his ass!
It’s his 7th year. I’d say it’s just the natural progression of most NFL players.
Not For Long.
Ego, pride. Collins was always high on himself which is kind of funny when his Twitter handle is "Humble".
I was going to say the same thing. I thought he played great in the extra LB role last year. I thought they were using him wrong this year or am I missing something? Is Graham trying to get too cute.
That he is. Just looked it up.

I want to think Jenkins and Vernon were 2nd team.
That's what you think of and not the season where he was one of the best defensive players in the NFL?
Peps is a different and - in my opinion - much better player. He’s too small to play the Mike though. Tough enough I think and he could cover from there better than Crowder or even Martinez. But he’s too small for the second level he’d get pushed aside by OL. Outside he’s not quick or big enough to get home from the edge. He’s a good SS and he makes plays. Graham needs to get him back in the scheme of things. He made plays last year. Like the rest of the defense though he just looks lost this year.
Now, wasn't it his #21 shining under the bright lights when he stood still and allowed the Packers to complete a hail Mary? At the end of that same year, answer me that. Better look up something quickly on your smartphone.

It's actually a pretty common theme for people who self-identify as "humble".
