VT just returned a blocked extra point attempt for TD

I know they tallied two points for it. Apparently it is considered one of the rarest scoring plays in any level of FB.

Sitting watching the game with my 21 year old and when I told him the D got two points he said "Oh. A safety" and the explanation I gave him did not quite satisfy him.

Obviously not a safety but it leaves me wondering if there is an official "name" for that type of scoring play? Do any of you know if it has a name?

The offense does it so I believe it is just called a defensive 2 pt conversion in this case.

I think you can have a 1pt safety also

It's happened in D-1 college. Never in the nfl.

Syracuse ended up scoring 14 points in the last 5 minutes and winning the game

After VT scored on the return, I expected VT to kick-off to SU. It seems this is the only instance, other than a safety, where the team that scores points receives the kick

Funny thing is we did the same thing years ago, also against Syracuse. Lost both games of course. The Fire Fuente chant started the second the hail mary failed.
