I was never as down on Quinn as a lot of others here. But, this game and that overtime game the other night were never wins under the previous regime. Some of the free agents brought in have made a huge difference.
“Nothing special”? Have you been watching hockey the past four seasons? He’s one of the most dangerous offensive players in the entire world…but after 6 games fairly average games he is “nothing special”
It’s like New York sports fans are just conditioned to be jaded now

Answer me this..has he played up to his level yet...that's all I said...did DJ play up to level this year...
In game 1 (the only loss?) he made a pass from an offensive zone corner (seemed like it was no-look) to a streaking D (Fox?) tape to tape to set up a scoring chance.
Ottawa: young club a lot of good players, inexperienced, but they will get good. A key to the game imo no one mentioned contributing to another unexpected win: after 1st goal when Kreider inadvertently hit Murray in the head with his leg and knocked him out of the game, was huge. He'd been stonewalling the Rangers all game until then, Forsberg (?) comes in stone cold/unprepared (at 2-0 @ 14:40 of 3rd he figured his day was over) and Rangers notch two quick ones.
Yeah, the record looks great but to my eye the team doesn't. They looked slow vs Sens and for most part their attacking zone possessions lacked entry tempo and structure, spacing, and possession time. Same with the PP (except for possession time): they're not spreading the ice effectively, passes are neither crisp nor quick, looks slow and predictable as hell. No wonder to me they're, what, 1 for their last 23?
Still not getting enough production from our 'skill' guys, part was Murray, part puckluck (?), part forced line adjustments. KAM continues to be wildly inconsistent, had one horrid stretch where he lost the puck along far boards, lost his man who fed to slot). Why does GG have Nils on right point on 2nd PP Nemeth on right when his comfort zone is left? Trouba dishing out some hits (though he lost his fight with Tkachuk). He ain't perfect, but he's a security blanket out there for the younger players.
Goalies: I groaned (sure most of us did) when Georgiev couldn't snare 1st shot on goal by Paul, a good one, he was mostly solid after but had my hair standing on end much of the game: a big difference vs Igor is clear to me: Georgiev just does not see or track the puck as well. Bunch of times the puck has already crossed and almost exited the crease when you see Georgiev's head whip around to locate it vs Igor would already be sliding across.
Coaching: as Rob and others note, GG is making a difference. One that stands out is the Rangers are finishing their checks, esp. along the boards. DQ's checking meant wings would try to wrest the puck or tie the opponent up. This Rangers' team is being instructed to be physical in their checking. (Talk about finishing checks along the boards: Kreider's that drew late boarding penalty, I winced on that hit. I'd be bullsh.t if that was against us.)
Nice to see Goodrow and Blais contribute, feels like they're settling in a bit.
OT: watched a chunk of Bruins v Flyers Wed night: PHI will not be pushovers this year. Atkinson (local kid) already having big impact, Farabee had huge game. Ristolainen and Yandle are making a difference on d.

I've only seen the last 3 games, but outside of the Leafs game the Rangers have looked solid. Even in the Leafs game it was mostly one period. They've gotten clutch goaltending and have played their best in the 3rd period which is important. People make it seem like they're dominated game in and game out when it was only one game and more specifically one period. And as I said, their best periods were the third periods the last two years.
The Rangers at this point last year were the opposite, playing better than now and finding ways to lose. Part of that I'm sure is coaching, but I feel like it was inexperience and poor goaltending as well.
Anyway, while not the same thing saying "if it wasn't for Igor we'd have a worse record" is like saying "if it wasn't for Rodgers the Packers would have a worse record". Well we have Igor. I'm not sure if this is a playoff team this year only, because the Metro is so fucking stacked. But they'd be a shoo in in the west. I think it's a glass half full/half empty thing. Do you want to focus on uneven performances? Or do you want to focus on wins despite those performances? Despite, the PP not clicking (it won't be this bad all season), despite Panarin's head being his ass (he'll improve), and despite have two top 6 forwards injured, despite having a brutal schedule to start the season in terms of games played and road games (the teams haven't been great though). It's possible that when we start scoring our D will get worse (like last year) and Igor won't play like this all season since no goalie can, but I choose to focus on the positives.
Helluva road trip!
Looked like a Torts 6 goalie system. Also Tim Stutzle is an embarrassment, I counted at least 3 dives, only got called on the last one.
Artemi Panarin. I hope he's not going to be our DJ LeMahieu...
Good season, but nothing special...

Not too many players can make that pass.

Laf - Zib - Kreider
Panarin - Strome - Goodrow
Blais - Chytil - Gauthier
Hunt - Rooney - Blais [think Mercogs meant Reaves at one of the B's]
Barron and McKegg are working as extra skaters.
I thought Barron held his own pretty well Saturday, like to see him as C, so glad McKegg is on the roster instead of Vitaly
