I'm re-watching the game right now since I missed the first half. I'm telling you right now that Austin Johnson plays with better leverage, is quicker, and holds up better at the point of attack!
I hope the coaching staff sees the difference and Johnson gets moved up the depth chart!
He's currently at 56% for snaps.
Shelton is 32%. If anything, shorten his or better yet cut him. Moa can't be worse.
Johnson has been unheralded. He's done a great job at NT replacing Tomlinson at a fraction of the price.
I have to admit to be surprised to how solidly Johnson has played as the starting NT. IMHO so far he's the only must re-sign of our potential crop of UFAs next March. Whether we remain a 3-4 or go back to a 4-3 he's a solid rotation piece at the very least
That said, yes, AJ is much better than Shelton.
I had no idea how bad Shelton is, but it would make sense given his career.
He's played well in some games though
has been a nice replacement. If Raymond Johnson continues to improve, it would make Shelton redundant.
