If you look at the NFC right now, everything is breaking perfectly for teams with poor records to sneak into the playoffs. All division leaders and the Rams have excellent records, but outside of that, there is a ton of mediocrity. Teams that have three wins occupy the sixth and seventh wild card spots, including a team that we beat (Saints). If we get healthy and start winning some games, we should be right in the thick of it come seasons end.
National Football Conference
1 Arizona Cardinals 7-0
2 Tampa Bay Buccaneers. 6-1
3 Green Bay Packers. 6-1
4 Dallas Cowboys 5-1
5 Los Angeles Rams 6-1
6 New Orleans Saints 3-2
7 Minnesota Vikings 3-3
8 Atlanta Falcons 3-3
9 Chicago Bears 3-4
10 Carolina Panthers 3-4
11 Seattle Seahawks 2-4
12 San Francisco 49ers 2-4
13 Washington 2-5
14 Philadelphia Eagles 2-5
15 New York Giants 2-5
16 Detroit Lions 0-7
You mean the Falcons team that beat us while they were shorthanded?
That’s not the point. I didn’t say that we would make the playoffs, I’m just saying that it’s possible and our competition is nothing to write home about.
I'll fix it...'I knew that I would get that kind of response because the Giants snagging a WC berth is indeed laughable.'

If you’ve watched this team it’s not possible
Not us. We are likely to be 2-8 after our next 3 games.
win 4 division games win 3/7 of the others 9-7
They would have to get very healthy to have a shot but it is not as crazy as some are saying. This NFL has a lot of parity.
Threads like this is why I’d rather they just lose.
the only other way to salvage the season is to beat Dallas at the end of the year and cost them some home playoff game or a playoff bye.

I would imagine that you’d be disappointed if the unlikely event of the Giants making the playoffs actually did occur because we’re a “bad team” that needs good draft position.
The OP I understand what your saying. He’s saying it’s possible to COMPETE for a spot. He’s not saying we’re a lock he’s hoping for some meaningful football come early December. Is it insane? No it isn’t. We are an injury riddled team and when healthy we beat the Saints and we were going back and forth against Dallas in Dallas. We are not as bad as our record states. We should have beat Washington and a dropped int away from beating Atlanta. Let’s stop the negativity.

The Giants sneaking into the playoffs with a 7-10 record and losing first round is one of the worst things that could happen to this franchise. Some of you would rather sacrifice the chance to purge the front office for short term joy of a bad team winning some games.
I’d root like hell for the Giants if they some how made the playoffs but making the playoffs the way you’re suggesting is not good for this franchise.
There are more than enough threads for people to be negative on and downers on. What have yo shit on all threads. We are out when we are out and until then some of us still have fun even when the team is down. I also did this same exercise to just see what chance we have.
There will be an entire off season and maybe even January and December to discuss your new GM, draft picks, etc. maybe we lose our next 5 games and you can start right away. Until then, leave a few threads in peace.
A fun thought for me is that Peart keeps growing and takes the RT spit, Thomas comes back and continues his great season and maybe Wilson has the light go on, we get Barkley back, Toney back, Golliday back and Shepherd back. Sorry, even in the most positive thread I have nothing for Engram—seems like a nice guy. Offense could be pretty good and maybe the defense picks it up a bit and we are competitive.
Maybe none of that happens and many will get the destruction and start over they want—but I am sorry am still am having fun.
The only progress is getting rid of Gettleman, Abrams, Garrett and the Maras removing themselves from football decisions. You build a winning culture by being a well run organization not by being 7-10 and making the playoffs.
That aside, I think collectively we all over-rated Carolina at the start of the season. They looked good against opponents who are turning out to be pretty bad teams (they started 3-0 against Jets, Saints, and Texans) and have gone 0-4 since.
Realistically, this team will likely lose to their next 3 opponents (Chiefs, Raiders, and Bucs) and be left with a 2-8 record. This stretch of games is what most of us who have been ready to turn the page on this season have been looking at - the team is set on a pretty inevitable path downward at this point.
But of course he gets ridiculed in that condescending manner which has been refined to an art here.
True the Giants have not played like a team headed to the playoffs, but they are one game out
It they would win their next two games, unlikely, but unlikely things have happened before, even this season, most everyone had them getting slaughtered in NO, the wild card talk would all of a sudden seem legit
In any case, the OP has a very important game to look forward to next Monday because of his out look, not so much the case for many of you.
FMiC is back! Welcome back, buddy!

Good Post Joe.
Any team in the NFL can get in the playoffs and win the Superbowl. We could still see a Giants-Jets Superbowl. Sam Darnold could be the league MVP. Ximines could lead the league in sacks. Evan Engram could lead the league in receiving yards and TDs.
Hey. All I am saying is that all of those things could still technically happen, so none of them are silly!
Gee, this is fun!
We've had too many years in a row talking draft in October...
Way too many pessimists here...
This is true. It is one more win in a season that added one more game to the schedule.
Progress...
Some other wouldas...
The hype around the Ravens would be far less had the Refs not blown a call late to allow the Ravens a MIRACLE 66 yard FG to beat the lowly Lions.
Dallas benefitted from some poor ref work against the Chargers that would have their season looking a tad different.
How the heck did Tennessee lose to the Jets?
Miami could be winless if not for a late Pats fumble.
So we should only comment if we’re in lock step with the premise of the original post ? Got it !!

never claimed this team is anything other than their record at the moment. Interesting enough, I see it typed all the time, "if you don't like what a thread has to say, then don't open it."

I am repeating what I see communicated on this forum ironically by some of the same posters in this thread with their condescending tone.
Disagreement is not an issue, being an ass is.
Which is the same as saying “please no differing opinion or other thoughts please.” If someone posted an “Extend Engram’s contract” thread, would you suggest people who don’t agree simply ignore it? What about “Should we trade Jones for a conditional draft pick?”
This is a message board (sort of). If you start a thread you are likely to get both positive and negative feedback.

I think alot of the wishcasting here stems from the fear that Mara will retain Gettleman if they get close to 7-9 wins. I think that ship has sailed with a 1-5 start.
Fair enough...I read that as "good position" based on wins/losses. Personally I do not see this offense with the present line as a playoff team...agree. That being said I did not think they were even close to qualifying and was wrong...which I think was the message?
AGreed, I;m just not impressed by the majority of NFL teams, they all look beatable. TB, AZ, DAL, LAR, GB would beat the GIants handily but the rest? All 50/50 games imo.

Next six:
@ Chiefs
Raiders
@ Bucs
Eagles
@ Fins
@ Chargers
2-4 looks a helluva lot more likely than 4-2, and even when the Eagles are bad, the Giants often still find ways to lose to them.

forget about all that talk, but the point remains that the NFC is fairly weak aside from the division leaders. Let's see if we can go 4-2 in the next 6 or something like that.

Yeah, I see wins against the Eagles and Fins as possibilities. I don't see wins against the Raiders, Bucs, or Chargers. Maybe the Chiefs if they are as bad as they seem (But still probably better than us).
I thought I was witnessing the re-incarnation of Jack Lambert when he stopped their run game cold and pancaked their RBs
To me that set the tone and we continued to pummel Carolina all day long
Sure Darnold got rattled, he was playing the role of Pinnata
back there
This could be a pivotal moment in the re-birth of the Giants D
The the men in blue continue this assault against KC we just might finally be in gear and moving towards our next Lombardi
This next game is very telling.....I believe the Dallas wheels will come off soon as they always do....We still have a shot but it will not be easy

Being one game out of the wild card on Oct 25th and suggesting that is a good position is comical. Change the date to Dec 25th and the thread has merit.
We were also tied for the best record in the league on Sept 11th but time seemed to change that fact too.
On the other hand, we should always remember these wise words...
"The Giants are a playoff team until they're not."
In this century since the new millenium they ALWAYS falter
Why should this year be different. Its their over-confident attitude that always gets them. They cannot handle adversity and with their schedule they will face adversity
They are snake bit until they prove they are not
as in win a SB

Yea I would much rather see mock drafts. Sarcasm off.

We are not actually that close.
2 games might not seem like a lot but it is with 7 teams ahead of us. We dont need to just gain that on one team, we need to catch up to all of them.
LFG!
PHI, PHI, CHI, WAS, MIA
That would take us to 7-5 from today. I think 9-8 probably gets a pretty good shot at the playoffs this year.
So even if you win all your winnable games - far from certain! - you need two wins from KC, LV, TB, LAC, and DAL. I think Giants will always have a chance at home versus Dallas, so maybe that's one. But the other four look pretty tough.
