David Sills

Bill in UT : 10/25/2021 11:48 am
Probably not worth a thread, but there are so many here high on the kid that I wanted to say something. I was rooting for him from the start, but I just don't think he's got the talent to be a factor. He's a big kid, but not fast or that athletic. The problem I've seen is that he's the type of receiver who has to have great hands to take advantage of his height and whatever separation he gets, and he doesn't have great hands. He had several drops in one preseason game and he dropped a ball right in his hands yesterday. As of now, if I had to choose a guy for that role, I'd go with Colin Johnson.
I agree

Sills Army. I get it I guess, everyone wants the next Ed McCaffery, Theilen, Cupp, Beasley. But David is nowhere close to those receivers athletically. Not close. As you said he is slow off the line, slow up field. In order for him to stick he MUST show plus range and competitiveness at the point of attack like Golladay.

Doesn’t anyways give you many opportunities, especially as a professional football player. He had a golden one yesterday, and he blew it, it’s a bit harsh to say that given that he was targeted only once. But he had to make that catch. It hit him right in stride. Can’t have that happen as an NFL WR. He might still get another chance or two (a lot depends on the injuries of the top three giant WRs), but it was a real lost opportunity yesterday.
He was a good college receiver, who I think isn't good enough to make

it in the nfl. I like Pettis much better for depth at wr.
Needs great hands + great route skill
Bob in Newburgh : 10/25/2021 11:56 am : link
Probably 5-10 guys on Bama roster would be better, absent those traits.

Without insider knowledge, would consider him practice squad knows the system material, nothing more.

Agreed, and to compound his issue, he demonstrated in preseason he lacked elite concentration on a few opportunities there as well. That stood out to me in my mind before the season when he was all the rage.

Coincidence? I think not

Thanksgiving, Christmas, and BBI wildly overrating someone's preseason performance. He's not fast enough, and doesn't run routes well enough to make up for that.

It wasn't that he dropped it, it went through his hands so fast I thought he'd be left with stumps. A perfectly good pass that should have been caught.
Pettis
GF1080 : 10/25/2021 12:44 pm : link
I actually think Pettis is the much better player. Him and Jones have a good rapport and would like to see him stick around even for depth. He has performed at an ok rate since we brought him over. I feel like this is more self scouting and he should have been on active roster this whole time. Enough with keeping these extra ST guys.
OP is on the money
Jimmy Googs : 10/25/2021 12:44 pm : link
and Sills needs to do things to stick, even with the opportunity granted to him with all our injuries.

Maybe a couple of catches and he gains the confidence needed to contribute even more? And maybe not...

I liked what I saw in Pettis last year, and was a little surprised he was stashed on the PS. I think he showed that he deserves a spot.
You got to make that catch
ZogZerg : 10/25/2021 1:17 pm : link
when you have your opportunity.

He should be the first one cut from the practice squad whenever they need a spot.
Victor Cruz

dropped a ton of balls too. He needs to shake it off and move on. Lets not write someone off just yet.

Danny Shelton on the other hand....

Hes more productive than our all of our receivers. Why? Because he's not made of glass and can actually suit up for a whole season. Give the guy a chance. The guy is a complete hunk and has the ability to be an all pro type receiver given the chance.

You guaranteed a TD yesteraday. Didn't happen and didn't even come close to happening. I do give you credit for showing your face today rather than going into hiding until his first big play in the regular season.
"Victor Cruz" "all pro"

What's "LOL" is a presumably grown man using the term "LOL".
See it among many NY sports fans
shadow_spinner0 : 10/25/2021 4:12 pm : link
they get attached to some guys, despite not showing much and they gain some cult following and idk why. As a Yankee fan I saw it with Park and now with Velasquez. I see it with the Giants with multiple players "why did they cut these guys", "why isn't he getting more minutes". It's probably because they aren't that good. I'm all for giving guys opportunities but fans really get attached to some players for some reason.

Victor Cruz had some special talents that Sills does not approach. He should not get the same level of indulgence as Cruz, his upside is nowhere near comparable.

No pal, you're mistaken. "LOL" is for teenaged girls. Sills will be the last man standing out of the mediocre WR corps made of glass. Sills at least is built like a real man and won't be out every other week.

The Sills army is the same as the hate army. Just trying to love or hate something to be different.

Pettis is fast. Has some upside. Wonder what the problem was in
SF
It was his first game..

and we are passing judgement already? Someone earlier said we are looking for the next Ed McCaffrey... well we fucked that one up didn't we?
