Darnay Holmes

Is anyone else as sick of this guy and his Holding penalties as I am?

Last year he was a holding penalty waiting to happen on pass defense.

This year he seems to be relegated to ST but the holding penalties continue.

When is Aaron Robinson going to be ready?

Holmes needs a demotion.

With CBs with requisite athletic ability, they get cut because they either cannot ditch the grabbing or they never learn to locate the football in flight.

Very common in prospects and seems ingrained.

agreed.

But Holmes is so addicted to grabbing that he will not likely ever change imo.

Why didn't the scouts take note when Holmes was in college. He certainly did not just start his holding when he got to the NFL

It's what got him in the coaches dog house

the fact that we drafted two corners, signed two other FAs, and traded for a fifth was an indictment of both Sam Beal and Darnay Holmes - both of whom, I suspect, are still on the roster because our two draft picks are unable to play.

what is this caused by?

He's the type of player

That plays better looking at the LoS, but struggles mightily in his technique covering his man. For a defense that wants to play man and pressure, he's going to get you burned more often than not.

Decent reserve, but hoping we see Robinson sooner than later, as his strength coming out of college is his man technique out of the nickel. Can't be any worse that's for sure.

but he may be suffering from the "curse of the fast horse." He's relying on talent and not refining his technique enough. I don't know anything about his actual work ethic or how much time he's putting in on improving, but he seems to be stuck making the same mistakes over and over again. Disappointing, because I think he's got a ton of upside.
