Kenny Golladay sanctioned by federal court for "bad faith" neglect of subpoena after Giants WR skips 3 deposition dates and fails to produce documents in agent dispute. Magistrate judge says "professional football players are not above the law." ... A Michigan federal court hit NFL wide receiver Kenny Golladay with sanctions Monday, chastising the New York Giants player for his "cavalier and reckless attitude" toward discovery in litigation over whether Golladay was poached from his former agency. |
Ask Darren Sharper
If its about money it'll matter to the agent and there will be a resolution. If this was a criminal case it would probably just fade away, unfortunately.
This is a civil proceeding and he can’t be “lost” to it just fined or have his testimony/evidence discounted.
It shouldn't be. Meeting court deadlines and making ordered appearances are obligations regardless of the ultimate outcome of the litigation.
Let's not be overly dramatic, he's being fined, he's not facing jail time for missing depositions in a civil case where he's a third party.
Ray Lewis and Tyreek Hill amongst many others would beg to differ

Looks like the Giants are involved now and hopefully they can keep him out of jail for contempt.

Magistrate could also declare the other agent the winner by default because the testimony and docs were not received in a timely manner.
Golladay's just a third party. The litigation is his former agent against a memorabilia company that worked with Golladay and didn't pay the former agent the commission he claims he's due under the contract he had at the time with Golladay. Unless there's evidence that Golladay's failure to comply is at the direction of the defendant, him doing so wouldn't be grounds for a default verdict.
It is really sad how low the bar is for reporting nowadays ... so desperate for headlines to get clicks they go around acting like a court issuing sanctions is some sort of crime or something. It is the equivalent of getting a $25 ticket for being at a parking spot after the meter expires. Is that newsworthy? If not, than neither are civil court "sanctions."
Does a "pulled hammy" count?

The sanctions against Golladay are hardly earth shaking stuff, but this is a fairly laughable comparison.
