I don't think he was coming back nor was he getting a huge contract but this will severely hurt his value on the market this summer. Probably will have to sign a 1-year "prove it" deal - gotta feel for the guy. Say what you will about his inability to cover TE's but he always brought energy and was voted a captain.
Sure, he tried hard. I don't people dispute that. But he's not that good & isn't a long term piece here hence the trade talk. It sucks, but this is first & foremost a business. Now him being traded is moot so there's that.
Hitting free agency coming off an ACL injury likely means a one year prove it deal with someone.
And yes it sounds callous, but was hoping we could flip him to a contender at the deadline which is obviously not happening now.
Thanks for the effort, Jabril.
I don’t think this is necessarily the case. I’ve some NFL people say the players are almost always benefited by shorter contracts. The idea is that each bite at apple of free agency is a good thing. Andrew Brandt talked about this at length after Dak got hurt. But, idk for sure.

Giants put Jabrill Peppers on injured reserve.
He has two injuries to his right leg: A rupture to the ACL in his knee and a high ankle sprain.
Ouch, it was nice knowing you, Peppers..
Honestly I am realizing how much a lot of Giants fans just flat out suck as human beings. This kid played his ass off for the team. Was he an all pro? No, but have some compassion for gods sake, he is a human being.
I know Peppers is mostly unpopular here but I like him. He is definitely not good in coverage but I do think he’s useful in different blitz packages and the return game. He made a really nice play on Darnold Sunday. I wish him well.

I think you're reading that post in the wrong light. I think we all feel bad for Peppers. No one wants to see another human being injured.
We know his limitations as a player, but he’s a guy who clearly cares a lot, has been a team leader and plays hard every game.
His Giants career won’t go down in history as a very successful one, but he has always seemed like a likable player
Footballs an unforgiving sport
Well said. It is a brutal sport. And while I'm no fan of his game, Peppers gave a damn & did his best. At the end of the day...what more can you ask of someone?
If it’s a ruptured ACL he won’t get a deal that will bring a decent pick, if one at all, so it’s a double whammy. It means he likely won’t be able to play till middle of 2022.
and injuries can happen on any given play - but I've never been comfortable with how the Giants have used key players as returners. Kick/Punt returns are such minimally effective plays, and the risk of yardage-costing penalties or even injuries are of much higher odds than the chance of making a meaningful gain.
Not blaming anyone for Peppers, I understand the need to have someone reliable catch the ball, but I wish they would find non-starters to return kicks or just make it a practice of returning fewer kicks.
Why? Look, it sucks that he was injured but, he isn’t very good. Re-signing him would be a waste of money. It’s time to move on from the mediocre players Gettleman brought to the roster.
Highly unlikely as he won’t be able to pass a physical until during the season. Giants have to prepare their secondary plans at safety this off-season without him in mind.
He will get all his contract money this year but he’s likely going to need to rehab and take a prove it deal for 2023.
Seems like they can't go one week without someone else going down. I hope Peppers fully recovers and plays again, but I don't see him playing for the Giants in the future.

Totally agree. Think of Barkley last year. He went down in week 2 or 3 and was just starting to get back into a groove around week 3 or 4. That’s over a year of recovery time. Given that it’s already week 8 that means he’s out until close to mid 2022. He may opt to just sit out next season and make sure he’s healthy for 2023.
RE: Injuries are miserable fact of life in the NFL
You don't have to go back too far - a lot of people forget how bad the injuries were in 2017. That was also the season when 4 (four) Giants wide receivers, including Beckham, went down with an injury in Week 5.
I know many posters pay little attention to what actually happens on the field but...
He was on his back and a panther landed on his leg and pinned it awkwardly into his chest, then Pep started screaming. It's clear as day on the replay. Just a freak unfortunate landing.
Why? Look, it sucks that he was injured but, he isn’t very good. Re-signing him would be a waste of money. It’s time to move on from the mediocre players Gettleman brought to the roster.
I'll make this statement and you can think what you want but you don't put a safety like him in the slot!!

According to Stapleton. Wow.
Sometimes you just can't tell with injuries. It's obviously a lot more serious than it looked.
Another ACL tear. How many is that this year? R. Williams is the other one I can think of.
Blake Martinez.

Yup.

Exactly, played with hustle and heart every game.
It’s also nice when your starting safety can cover anyone, even tight ends, which he can’t.

Darnay Holmes was doing some during the Panthers game.
Certainly wasn't signing a big multi year deal....but a one year prove it deal...is far more likely.
Probably an unpopular take but I hate the kick returns. Auto injuries.

Gates- out for season
Martinez- out for season
Peppers- out for season
Barkley- injured
Jones- concussion vs Dallas
The only reason not to have grass is paying for the upkeep. It's stupid that TWO billion dollar franchises who share the space does this.

Can we stop using key players as kick returners in non critical games? No more Jason Seahorns please.
I think grass is first up on the list.
