For the way the coaches are using him?
Btw, I’m extremely concern with how the Giants coaches are handling Jones here.
When I saw that catch, all I saw was the hit he took, not the catch. Do we really want to keep coming up with these gadget plays that keeps getting him lay the fuck out?
Now I get it, we don’t have ANY of our playmakers so they kinda have to do it. I mean they have guys playing that we’re on the practice squad 5 mins ago… so I sort of get but I don’t. This is a 1-5 team going into last week, and if you serious about him being “the guy”, what are we doing here?
At this point, we have to believe we are keeping him for years 4 AND 5. I think it’s safe to say that now. Next year draft, is not really anything special in terms of QBs. There’s just not a whole lot there but even if there was, the Giants are committed to DJ at this point. Mike Tannenebaum said on many occasions there’s not really any good QBs next year so, this is makes it even more imperative to want to take care of DJ even more.
I think giants fans and teammates love this guy. He’s as tough as it gets, puts it on the line every play, take accountability… he made that catch, takes a hit, and hands the ball back to the ref and gets ready for the next play. But the Giants and this coaching staff are not treating him like he’s the “next guy”, even though they believe he is. If your QB goes down, that it. You’re done. Not winning much. At some point, they have to get away from this.
I think DJ is a special kind of talent. He’s like a mix of everything. He’s not elite, but he’s pretty damn good at just about everything you can ask for in a QB. He’s not as accurate as Rodgers or mahommes, he’s not as elusive as Jackson or Murray… but he’s sort of his own self lol. It’s hard to really compare him to anyone. Is he better then Eli? Now don’t get me wrong, I fucking love Eli. Easy E baby! Guy had a deep ball, tough as nails, and was clutch when you needed him to be. Said all the right things. But so far, DJ has really shown a lot more then Eli has ever done at this point in time for both of their careers. He really has.
I do like the run plays some times. I do like that he can make these plays happen and he’s willing to take hits from them. I love it. But I think it’s insanely reckless to keep sending him out there like this. I want him to take care of himself better, but it’s HARD to do this when you ask him to go run a route and make a catch. Then he gets rocked. How can he defend himself from this? Then you’re asking him to run up the 2 hole and find a way around…. It’s just a disaster waiting to happen again, and this can’t go on anymore.
Like, Jackson and Murray has this elusiveness that can shake off defenders and make them miss. Jones doesn’t do that. You have to use his athleticism sparingly. They need act like he’s the next Giants QB.

...especially the one in the thread title
He's a tough SOB & I admire that in him, but sometimes that needs to be reined in. That falls to the coaching staff.
yeah... and then some people will point to Lamarr Jackson with envy.
He'll be fine.
He has a plus ability running the football. That has to be used. You can win by making the defense guess and force them into making the wrong decisions. His ability to run does that to defenses and that split second of hesitation is the difference between a play being successful or not.
But it's also partly on him to take care of himself as well. I like that he's tough, but also has to learn not to try to force things like the play that got him the concussion.
Also, a ball floated in the air that long can get any player clobbered. It gets to him a little faster and maybe he gets some YAC.
After I saw the play and even all the runs I thought especially on the pass that he could've been wiped out.
SO because he made the great catch and it was creative you'll hear things like "Garrett did his job by opening up the offense."
Yet if DJ gets hurt on a play like that the entire coaching staff would've gotten shit on.
What the hell are you talking about on the concussion play? Nobody slides at the one yard line trying to score.

Well, if DJ had kept running the route, Pettis would have hit him in stride. Both Pettis and he commented afterward that DJ had slowed down that is why the ball seemed over thrown.
Remember that throw came after repeated red zone failure with Carolina still in the game, and our D hasn’t exactly earned undying trust.
So, as he ages and gets better as a pocket passer, if we ever improve the OL I’d expect him to run less and take fewer hits. Now, we gotta use whatever he’s got.
Btw, hated the blow to the head he took on that catch when he was falling to ground. Seemed like a penalty but nothing called? Pettis actually gets rid of the ball fairly quickly if you review that play again. If he doesn't, Jones would have really gotten lit up from that back defender.

Whether he overthrew or underthrew - if he got hurt imo many would've shit on the coaches for calling the play.
It was fourth down. Sliding short of the end zone would have been a stupid play. They should have had a receiver in the area in case the defense wasn't fooled by the bootleg so that's on the play call unless Jones did that on his own.
Wow...just wow.
