Route 9 : 11/7/2021 12:42 pm
Just realized that there is an episode of Dexter waiting on the table for me this morning. Miss that show, no matter how weird it got, it was a nice recovery at the end of a Sunday if the Giants pissed me off. And that was during the Coughlin days!

So hopefully after today's game it's even more horrid and disgusting than before! Who knows?

He was a gay Ukrainian mobster pissed off about his lover getting killed.

with people who watched it I also admit partly what you're saying route 9, but mostly just Deb.

I feel like it would have seemed a lot more "true" if he killed Deb to keep his secret.

not something he would have done lightly or easily since she didn't meet the code, and it would have caused him a lot of anguish but I felt he had to do it. Maybe after she killed LaGuerta

While, as mentioned, I liked season 7, but Deb learning the truth and her reaction was kind of a stretch.

Also Dexter doing the perp walk for everyone in Miami Metro homicide to see was an end of the show/final season moment. That happened in the middle of season 7. It lead to nothing and that big, anticipated moment played out was an entire waste.

season 7 was awesome.

seasons 6 and 8 were brutal, 8 comically so. 6 more just unrealistic even by this shows standard and 8 was like they weren't even trying.

but season 7 was really good - but I do admit by that point I was "hate watching" - that's what I call continuing to watch a show that is now shitty just because you made the multiple season investment and want to see it through to conclusion.

This is what I did with the latest season of Fargo - and the last few of Dexter, but was pleasantly surprised with Dexter season 7.

I think it started declining when Clyde Phillips left after season 4. I’m excited he’s back for this season. Throw in hall’s bout with cancer and as expected the show suffered

Season 5 was fine but at the same time a let down because I think I hyped it up a bit too much. Hard to believe that was OVER 10 years ago.

The Rita stuff was patched up very quickly but I did enjoy Dexter breaking the news to the step kids and grandparents with a Mickey Mouse hat on his head lol.

I don't know. Julia Stiles just sucked and has always sucked. I never cared for her.

I'm just glad the show is back so I now that I have something to look forward to.

Plus they (Showtime) were making so much money just from the season 5 premier episode alone. I didn't even know Dexter existed until 2008 which was in between seasons 3 and 4, I think.

Nothing will top watching Dexter season 4 the first time around. The Lithgow season might be my all-time favorite TV experience. I watched it again of course and it wasn't the same but sitting in my living room in 2009 watching the last few episodes for the first time was way too gripping.

You didn't get a whole lot of TV like that back then.

UConn4523 : 11/8/2021 6:40 pm : link
Lithgows character and arc got really cartoonish. The end result with Rita was well done but getting there got kind of annoying after a while. That’s the problem with much of the Dexter seasons, they were too long and cat/mouse just dragged and dragged. 8 episodes would have trimmed so much of the redundancy.

Looking back yeah, 12 years later you're possibly right but even before finding out Rita's fate, I've never been more invested in a show when that season aired in 2009.

You don't like the adventures taking place in Dexter? It's a simple, fun concept. Dexter has his guy/woman and it's head-to-head battle for survival and maybe does some night stalking on the side, laced with dark humor.

One season he gets a friend, the next he gets a love interest. Has a kid. Normal life of a serial killer.

I don't know ... how else would you want the show to play out? Yeah the show had its warts but I don't think I ever put an episode on hold, even when Breaking Bad aired at the same time. What a problem it was in the early 2010s! Two shows on at the same time.

I like the premise, I like the plot with Harrison, and I liked all the imagery.

I was never a fan of Deb, so not sure I'll like it with no James Remar and Deb in that role.

I like his girlfriend.

John lithgow is credited for two episodes. I’m looking forward to seeing how the trinity killer is brought in. Who has that vision dexter or Harrison?

I definitely really liked Dexter, was very into it pretty much the whole way through. It hit at a good time with a bunch of other great shows and squeaked in a few seasons before social media took off so talking about it at work was a lot of fun (like Lost). Just looking at it from hindsight - they got almost half the series wrong.

Not far off (in my mind at least), did you read any of the Dexter books? They almost read what I imagine a Hallmark movie book would be like, but obviously darker. Much darker.

Speaking of books, I kind of liked how Dexter's new name was Jim Lindsay, and I wondered if that was paying homage to the Dexter book author Jeff Lindsay.

too coincidental IMO if not.

No, I don't think. Maria (different name in the books, doesn't make it out of the first book - Dexter kills her if I remember right) and he never sleeps with Deb.

Jimmy admits did a great job in 3 and ITK and BHB were the best of the serial killers. Thought I disliked Julia Stiles season til I re watched, that season was better than 4. 6 was a painful watch. Last two better than 6 but no where’s near the first 3. Watched first episode, without spoilers it is missing James Remar.

I agree. Jimmy did a phenomenal job in season 3 and a lot of people don't like it.

1 was my favorite.
2 was good
3 was solid
4 was my favorite first time watch
5 was solid
6 was decent. I'll agree with uConn they could've sped things up a bit by this point.
7 was trash
8 was somehow worse than that

Hannah was just my least favorite character of the show and that is saying a lot.

Also, we don't have to worry about Hannah making a return to visit Dexter.
I don't like Deb
pjcas18 : 11/15/2021 8:35 am : link
as the Dark Passenger, I liked Harry in that role because Harry didn't try and prevent Dexter from killing, his voice was to help make sure Dexter understood the code and was protecting himself.

Deb just tries to discourage him (so far) and where is the fun in that?
......
Route 9 : 11/15/2021 9:13 am : link
Harry felt empathetic (or whatever) for Dexter when he found him in that shipping container. Deb's a bit different since she found out her step bro is a killer after midway through the show. She was pissed off at Dexter for being the Bay Harbor butcher so it would make sense Deb would be pissed off in the afterlife.

If I remember correctly, the ghost Harry didn't make any appearances in the final Dexter episode. Not even one.

Lol. Blaming Dexter for being dead is something Deb would definitely do. If Dexter hadn't left the room and Deb did her job, Oliver Saxon wouldn't have shot her. Everything was good in Deb's book until that point. She thought she was going to bag Saxon without Dexter but she needed him more than ever. Also she wouldn't have had the career she had if it wasn't for Dexter leaving her tips early on in the show.
......
Route 9 : 11/15/2021 9:15 am : link
That is if I remember all of that correctly. It's almost been 10 years.

Deb was an annoying, inconsistent, judgmental yet stupid character.

Definitely would take Harry over Deb.

I thought they butchered the code thing anyway with presenting that Vogel was the one who constructed it. Kind of cooler to think he just thought of these rules on the fly to keep Dexter's tendencies a secret, rather than go blab to a woman about everything. Lame.

That was a dud too in the last season. I thought, at first, she was there to track Dexter down and be a villain but nope. She was some wisdom mommy character.

According to one of the podcasts don’t sure if it was before or after the premier but they said that’s the biggest misconception they aren’t the dark passenger they are his conscience trying to help him contain the dark passenger which is the urge to kill
......
Route 9 : 11/15/2021 11:08 am : link
Right. The second season, for example, I think it was, Dexter lied to Rita and claimed he was a drug addict. Or she said he was and he just played along because it was obviously less damning than being a murderer. Either way, when Rita was starting to get lippy and noticing Dexter's dishonest behavior and we got to see this as an explanation of one of the characteristics of Dexter's Dark Passenger, it was about his urges and his real addiction, which was to kill.

He confesses to Rita that he did in fact set up Paul, but swears it was a spur of the moment impulse to protect her and the kids. She then asks why he had heroin on him if it was an impulsive act, and he has to claim an addiction to explain it.

That's right. When I heard Dexter was coming back. I just watched season 4 and 5.

But the metaphor replacement (or whatever) still stands. This season shows the flashbacks with Dexter wanting to kill the bully when he was a teenager and he said it to Harry and mentioned his urges and need to kill didn't stop.

who didn't hate the 'final' season. Sure, the show jumped the shark, but there's only so long you can walk the thin line of Deb/police being almost on to Dexter.

The revised/renewed season is pretty bad. The only reason to watch it is to get a Dexter fix after 10 years.

This is where I think they'll go with this as well.

Plus the dad needs to find something linking Dexter to the murder. I'm guessing this season is 10 episodes? Don't worry. We'll get there.

Also another thing to note, the daughter (Audrey) seems as if she's a carbon copy of some other Netflix show I've seen before. Forget what one though.
