Route 9 : 11/7/2021 12:42 pm
Just realized that there is an episode of Dexter waiting on the table for me this morning. Miss that show, no matter how weird it got, it was a nice recovery at the end of a Sunday if the Giants pissed me off. And that was during the Coughlin days!

So hopefully after today's game it's even more horrid and disgusting than before! Who knows?

This season is super fun

They have to continue it
ok I'm caught up on the new series now

Really enjoying it. I have my own theories about where they're headed, but we'll have to see what happens.

One thing I'm certain of is that the oil billionaire HAS to reappear in some way. There's no reason to have a character like that be so prominent for several episodes and then just vanish completely.

episode was the best one so far, IMO.

the scene with Harrison and Kurt in the cabin was great as was Dexter's trek through the snow escaping Kurt's buddy.

I didn't realize that Zach is Mark and Donnie Wahlberg's nephew.

Some plot holes, but I’m enjoying it

Definitely some plot holes, but that's just Dexter
Greg from LI : 12/28/2021 10:25 am : link
The only one that's really annoying me at the moment is Angela doing a search for ketamine with Miami homicides and getting a BHB hit, when the original series made a big deal of explaining that M99 is a very hard to find, very tightly controlled substance. IOW, clearly not ketamine.
1. Dexter pointing out that Kurt "must have moved something heavy."
Beezer : 12/28/2021 11:18 am : link
2. Dexter pointing out, walking own Kurt's basement hallway, that "there must have been a struggle" upon seeing scrapes along the wall.

3. Kurt "gutted" the downstairs, but (a) left the jacuzzi tub, but in cracked pieces in the corner of the luxurious bathroom, and (b) just as the chief is talking about searching every landfill (how many landfills are going to be in that area?), they show a close-up of some wall trim that's pretty distinct, so while Kurt "gutted" things, he was pretty fucking sloppy compared to other similar situations the show has featured.

4. As others have said, the chief getting immediate internet hits for whatever it is she's searching.

I wish the writers would tighten these and other things like it. The first two examples, just don't have Dexter SAY anything.

Still ... I'm choosing to set those things aside and I'm enjoying the show, overall.

Yeah. It's been a fun ride. Before getting into the show and knowing anything, I was hoping they'd mention cameras being everywhere since it's 2021.

I mean, Dexter DID waste someone at Miami Airport in the original show and Kurt did have a caustic remark when he said something along the lines to Harrison about how there are no cameras for the school to "protect the children" but everyone in town shits their pants over the white deer.

Kurt is builidng up be one of my favorite Dexter rivals. He's up there with Rudy and Trinity.

I guess sergeant Doakes, too. Lol.

I thought Jimmy Smits did a great job in season 3 as well. I really liked that season. Everyone seems to whine a ton over it.

I'm curious about the Billionaire as well. I figured he was bankrolling Kurt and maybe it was going to be a group of them killing people together.

She was a very annoying character. But yeah it's crazy how within the last 5 years or so those True Crime podcasts have been usurped by women lol My girlfriend is obsessed with that crap.

She was watching some tour ( who'd ever think that people from a podcast would go on a tour) of a true crime podcast hosted by the hosts of the show and I was thinking it was going to be the small Auditorium and they pan to the audience and it's an NBA sized arena filled from top to bottom with young women lol. Not one dude in sight.

Merry fucking kill!

Apparently the girl who plays the bartender said on one of her social media it wasn’t her and she’s in episode 10 so 🤷‍♂️

Kurt
pjcas18 : 1/5/2022 11:44 am : link
was awesome.

I don't know how to interpret Harrison's reaction. Seemed like he maybe felt like Dexter's reasoning for killing Matt was sketchy.

I also like the parallels between Kurt and Dexter and their differences. Serial killers have a blurry line, lol.

Dexter born in blood but Kurt nurtured in it.

One of the best Dexter seasons, I hope they keep it going but keep the quality.

Anyone know the plans after the finale? Is this one and done or would they consider a season 2 (and beyond?)
......
Route 9 : 1/5/2022 12:03 pm : link
I just don't care much about Angela or her daughter. Boring.

I think Dexter will just easily dupe Angela into getting her to not turn him in and go along with it for finding the missing girls. Hopefully more Kurt in the finale from flashbacks.

I think the woman who is playing Angela is a pretty bad actress.
Angela
pjcas18 : 1/5/2022 12:15 pm : link
is just a necessary part of the plot IMO, and I agree, she's pretty underwhelming.

and I agree, Dexter simply explains away any doubts with the discovery that Kurt was the killer of all the area missing girls. Part of me thinks that Angela sees all the links to Dexter and the Bay Harbor Butcher and suspects him being involved in the local missing girls. I

I think he explains his whole name change, etc. by pointing out the Trinity killer, murderer of Dexter's wife) was never found (unless his remains have been identified which I don't recall ever happening).

I think the Bay Harbor Butcher angle was interesting, learning that it was Dexter and not Doakes could be for some fun cat and mouse, but I think it gets dropped with the death of the blogger. I'm also surprised they had Kurt kill her off so unceremoniously. Maybe because her death benefited Dexter too in a way.

Molly wasn't that important of a character lol No podcasters are important.

I felt that was a perfect way for her to go out - off screen. I was never wondering where she was and didn't spend one second thinking about her unless she was on the screen talking like an idiot. I thought she had too much screen time.

Oh well. I guess now Deb is "gone" you have to have someone to fill the annoying character vacancy.

I think it was clear she was a goner when you can see Kurt watching her from some distance. He had a menacing look on his face. Then he was wearing something (robe or something) to tip you off he was in the middle of embalming Molly.

Maybe it was different for other people but the way I remember it was everybody in my life got into the original show at the same time, in late 2008/early 2009. I think some people were getting into it in the middle of season 4 because people were begging me to let them into my house to watch new episodes because of Showtime. Different times.

I think the show should've been shorter (of course) but they had to capitalize on the surge in viewership. History will probably repeat itself. I'm sure Dexter is still Showtime's moneymaker.

I'm actually watching a movie right now with Angela in it on Netflix. Wind River or something. She's basically the same character here from what I've seen so far.

Blue The Dog : 1/9/2022 10:15 am : link
I didn't think the ending, or series, was perfect, but I enjoyed it and was entertained. Most importantly, I think the ending for Dexter makes sense, and is thematically in tune.

Too many people liked the show and character a lot, and forget that he was never supposed to be a hero. I like that they showed the contrast of Dexter and Harrison. They both have dark sides, but Harrison seems genuinely interested in being a good person, where as Dexter never cared about that, he was a sociopath. At the end, Dexter realized that Harrison wasn't like him in that sense, and that's all he really wanted. He wanted his son to be able to feel happiness and pursue it. Dexter could never feel those things. If nothing else, I feel like it completes the character of Dexter. It might not have been the best season of Dexter, but I feel like it did good service to the character
Copout of an ending, no pun intended.
Optimus-NY : 1/10/2022 7:58 am : link
This series could have went on longer. Bad ending, but I understood it.

Is Dex D.O.A.?
I liked it
pjcas18 : 1/10/2022 8:36 am : link
even if it wasn't the ending I wanted I liked it, was surprised by it, but I think it worked.

and the main angle they have to continue (if they decide to) is with Harrison continuing and Dexter as is conscience.

The main piece I hated was the sequence with Logan in the jail - that was more cartoonish than most plot liberties IMO.

If I were Dexter, I would've just been glad to take credit for all the Bay Harbor Butcher work. Like, yep, that was me.

I was hoping Dexter would reunite with Angel and then ... kill him very quickly. Lol. He was always a worthless character.

Dexter not being wise enough to realize Harrison would pick up on that something happened to Coach seemed a bit ... stupid. You have blood all over yourself and you break out of jail and you call your own son from the coach's phone and Harrison won't notice?

Meh. Whatever. Wish they'd come up with some new shows so I'd have to stop relying on the old ones coming back.
For all the shit that
fkap : 1/11/2022 9:34 am : link
the original series took for the last season or two, this one is just more of the same. For me, it took several episodes for the show to start moving. The middle episodes were good. The final few gradually got worse and worse.

Way too much was cartoonish, convenient, or massively unexplored while more mundane shit is examined in detail.

I simply don't buy the Harrison about face. Reeks too much of a 'ha, ha. y'all wanted Harrison to be just like Dexter, but he's not' plot twist.

Wouldn't surprise me at all if "Harrison" is a new series. An unguided tormented soul trying to find his way in the world, trying to figure out if his urges to maim/kill are anger or blood lust.

I'm glad I signed up for showtime to watch it just for its own value. I would rank this season near the bottom of all the seasons, though. The collateral entertainment of showtime (Yellowjackets, Your Honor, American Rust, amongst others) is a most welcome bonus.
I enjoyed the ending.
Mike in Long Beach : 1/12/2022 1:18 am : link
Particularly enjoyed the fact that Dexter killed an innocent person, Logan, and then died via the code he taught his son and the code he lived by: Only kill those who have killed. He fit the code.

"innocent" was the wrong word by me, Dexter (Harry's) code was to only kill confirmed murderers.

He's killed quite a few people that were not confirmed murderers with confirmed being the important word, but some who were just rapists or drug dealers.
