Giants assistant HC/DC Patrick Graham, 42: The Jets requested an interview with Graham for their head-coaching job in January, but he declined and signed a contract extension with the Giants that made him one of the NFL's highest-paid defensive coordinators. A one-time Yale defensive lineman, Graham is now in his 20th year coaching, with the past 13 being spent in the NFL (including a Super Bowl XLIX win with New England). He's passionate, has high expectations and can be hard on players in a way that makes them love him more. |
As it is, I'm not sure why this defense spent 3 critical weeks with its collective head up its ass.
If you look throughout the league, defense outside of the red zone is generally poor. The NFL has outlawed pass defense (though Jason Garrett doesn't know that yet) so it is easy for teams to take advantage. In the red zone you have much less room so there are are only so many places somebody can be.
A) I think Graham has his dream job right now. I truly believe he feels duty with Judge to stick it out for a while.
B) He's really not the CEO type you want leading a team. And there's nothing wrong with that either.
and
C) His D has been good, not great this year given the terrible defensive start that has pretty much ruined the season.
I think if he’s still here in two years it would be a surprise. Gut feeling based on nothing.

I know I look forward to watching a Defensive masterpiece every Sunday. I especially love how they call Time outs on defense and then give a big play the very next play. Just great coaching.

Plus there's also that awesome situational defense. My favorite has been last minute of the first half - giving up a TD right before halftime in the first six games (plus a FG vs LV).
What's the actual answer to this? Twice?
This is another reason to move Getty out of the GM spot ASAP.
Quote:
Defensive coordinator go on to have success as a head coach.
Tom Landry
Bill Parcells started as Defensive Coordinator/LB coach
Belicheck
John Fox
Of course we were lucky to keep Parcells.
Not a huge list but quite an impactful one—not comparing Graham to them.
The biggest fail of course was Spags
