Chris Berman...class act..

DC Gmen Fan : 11/17/2021 5:55 pm
I know he takes his share of criticism but he went above and beyond to do something very classy for my young autistic nephew that made his day.
Nice.

I dont want to go into too much detail

Never a fan of his, but nice to hear.
I love Chris Berman

If you’re an 80s-90s sports fan, he’s got to be one of the top sports voices of your childhood.

No one on this earth does a better football highlight package than Berman. The “GEEEE-men” “Well dressed Amani Toomer!” with the amazing ESPN highlight music in the background. Or Home Run Derby? “Back....back...back..back”

Berman is awesome

Well dressed Toomer! His recap highlight packages were always unique and entertaining!

He's not for me. He was a caricature near the end.

I’m of the same opinion. I understand the comments regarding his last few years, but that doesn’t impact my overall opinion of him.

To each their own. I will agree that NFL Primetime was much see back in the day. I just couldn't stand Berman.
I Liked Berman Back in the Day

The problem was after a thousand or so, "Bert be home Blylevens" his schtick got old.

Fortunately (for me) I stopped watching ESPN and Sports Center years ago, so I missed the back end of his career... except for the annual NFL Draft.

Ditto for me.

And regards to the backend of his career, Berman was never a play by play guy IMO. When ESPN got baseball and he started doing the late Calif games ("Hotel Calif") he really started to lose my interest.

The quirky in studio stuff was great for highlights and such, but when he started to use during play by play is when it went off the rails for lack of a better term.

His best, IMO, was during KC Chiefs highlights.

They had a QB named Bono, and he would hum a tune (Sonny and Cher) while introducing him on that particular highlight sequence......just classic.

That’s not the first time I’ve read Berman doing something generous for fans.

had a player named Lyman DePriest in the late 80's/early 90's.

Berman doing Sportscenter back then called him "Lyman I'm not the rabbi I'm DePriest"

good stuff.

wow....

Very nice. I met him about 10 years ago and he couldn't have been nicer.

I'm from that era and he's one of my least favorite voices. But, this was a class act. Good for him.

in the late 90s, my wife started working for ESPN @ Fenway and worked with Berman for years. In 2006, when her and I were dating, she introduced me to Berman after a Sox game. We exchanged some small talk while exiting the stadium and I mentioned I was on active duty in the Marine Corps. A few months later, I received hats, shirts and an autographed ESPN banner that I pinned to the wall in my shop.

A handful of phone calls between my wife and Chris over the years and he always asks how I'm doing. A larger than life personality that I loved watching/listening to while growing up is still that same guy and completely genuine. Berman is the man!
