NFL Network’s Aditi Kinkhabwala doubled down on her reporting on Steelers QB Dwayne Haskins’ lazy warmups from Sunday after facing some blowback. The NFL insider tweeted on Monday that Haskins — who entered Sunday’s Lions game as the backup to Mason Rudolph with Ben Roethlisberger on the COVID-19/reserve list — spent the warmup period “throwing lousy passes and checking his phone,” leading to derision from his coaches. |
What a bum.
Agreed and what bothers me the most here is how the Giants were labeled racist or at least "old thinking" because they didn't draft Haskins, a black Quaterback. But Haskins has done everything possible to show he is a lazy, entitled, brat who has no interest in working for his job and instead just expected to be handed to him and still Bucky Brooks tries to defend his behavior- literally questioning on the on filed reporter about what she observed.
Which is fine, really. Not everyone is cut out for the life of an elite athlete. It's just weird that a guy who doesn't seem to want to do this ended up as a first round pick and, however briefly, a starting quarterback in the NFL. And that there were people insisting that the Giants were racist for not selecting him.
Also, if he's not committed to this football thing, he should give it up entirely and stop stealing a paycheck. No worries, Dwayne, go with God, but go.
Yeah that alone would keep me from hiring him as the GM. I can't believe someone with connections in the league and in college football would draft this guy in any round.
The people running these billion dollar corporations aren't as smart or as connected as they should be.

I would not say that alone would keep me from hiring him as a GM, but the reasons why he liked Haskins concern me. Riddick has no clue about how you build a team. His philosophy seems to be you take the 53 guys with the most raw potential/physical tools and work out the fit later. That does not work in the NFL. You can't have a bruiser RB behind a line of elite pass blockers who get blown up against the run as an example.

I'm sure how I view Riddick after that. But I understand posters holding it against him - to a degree.
Last week, I read something here, during one of the next GM debates, that Mara was very impressed with Riddick during the fake GM search in 2017. And if Gettleman is shown the exit signs, Riddick could be back in the mix...
Holmes managed to con people into thinking she'd already done something when she hadn't, at least for a while. She got away with it until she didn't. In sports, everyone can see if you're doing it or not. So Haskins couldn't get away with anything.
A bjt of Johnny Manziel. Guys over-projected due to the supporting cast in school. Extremely immature and doesn't try to completely buy in to coaching and developing. He isn't long for the league at this rate.

Riddick being good with drafting this mope at #6 is a disqualifier. It's one thing to miss on talent - that can and has happened to everyone.
A good GM should only need 5 minutes of conversation with Haskins to know he wants no part of him in any round. To have all the resources a GM has: the scouts, the connections in NFL and NCAA, the behind the scenes guys that know where the bodies are buried...to have all that and still draft Haskins is inexplicable and unacceptable.
Yeah, he's done.
He's been with the Steelers since January and he's behind Mason Rudolph on the depth chart, and Rudolph stinks.

It’s amazing how many teams have overemphasized arm strength over intangibles.
Also, if he's not committed to this football thing, he should give it up entirely and stop stealing a paycheck. No worries, Dwayne, go with God, but go.
Come on man. If you were being paid a couple of million dollars would you walk away to a life as a burger flipper or would you milk it for everything you can get out of it?
Yeah laugh. Cuz the Mara's are such great owners when it comes to hiring good personnel people lol.

I get it. I really don't know how deep Riddick dug on Haskins. It's one thing to be an analyst and possibly felling compelled to go along with the mainstream, especially a ES"PC"N.
It's another thing to be on a clock as a GM with real pressure on the line. I would imagine that's a much different dynamic.
Look, I'm not a Riddick guy anyway, so I have no dog in the fight. Just trying to be measured.
Meanwhile, we have a daft GM who drafted a Duke QB because he fell in "full bloom love" with our franchise QB based on practice session at a Senior Bowl. So...

Neither Leinhart or Hawkins were known for their arms. Big program guys yes. Shotgun arms no way

I'm not even going to bother trying to figure out Dwayne Haskins, but there isn't a single person on this planet who wouldn't take $15 million even if it meant being a draft "bust".
Honestly, good for him for making life-changing money. I would never have wanted him as my QB, but football isn't life.

Ridick is what he is, a know nothing who pulls facts from his ass.
As mentioned if you want someone from the media to be in the office, I would suggest someone like Cossell, who is a grinder and watches film and knows some things, if you want to follow the 'successful' models of Lynch and Mayock. Of course bbi will have a meltdown that he's so old!

Are you suggesting the Mara ‘s ownership reign has been as dismal as Snyder s?
Where Haskins cam from is apparently pretty weird. That Dunleavy article before the draft blew my mind.

I thought that comment was unfair because Eric criticizes the Giants routinely in his previews.
I remember being on Rosen that year as was BW. I was interested in Haskins during the college season but backed off by the time of the draft for the things BW talks about in that thread. I actually change my mind when presented with new information.
But yes, if I could, I would definitely drink a beer with BW and would gladly buy for a chance to talk sports with him for a few hours at a bar. Smart guy, that I do not always agree with but often do.
I don't care what color Haskins is. I wanted no part of him for the Giants because he had such limited college experience and what he did have was basically playing for an all star team vs the Washington Generals every week. He was never under pressure from the defense. He basically was running a 7 on 7 drill against a defense that wouldn't make 3rd string on his team. He never had to deal with any on field adversity at all.
When I started reading some of the articles about his strange background it was the final nail. I wonder where he would have wound up if it wasn't for Snyder. The Mara's in public going back to Wellington have been extremely conservative socially but for a decade they had one of the very few African American GMs in the NFL. I don't think the color of Haskin's skin had anything to do with why they wanted no part of him. The last guy with some character red flags they drafted from OSU didn't work out too well. That was Eli Apple.
Then the Mara's ARE racist.

Louis Riddick the GM would've actually worked him out and interviewed him and come to the same conclusion as 31 other front offices that he wasn't a first round pick.
.... oh.
