NFT: Yanks DFA Clint … I’m surprised

capone : 11/19/2021 6:46 pm
They should get something back
More than Fraizer
Beer Man : 11/19/2021 6:52 pm : link
•Added INF Oswaldo Cabrera, RHP Ron Marinaccio, OF Everson Pereira, RHP Stephen Ridings and LHP JP Sears to the Major League roster.

•Designated OF Clint Frazier, INF Rougned Odor and INF Tyler Wade for assignment.
His fate was sealed once they decided to keep Ridings.

Only room for one Big Red.
Wade is a quality

4th 5th infielder. Why did they release him?
Feel bad he has had

such a hard time recuperating.
Rule 5
BigBlueShock : 11/19/2021 7:42 pm : link
So who does this leave exposed? Randy Velasquez wasn’t protected?

Probably because of the depth they have at SS in the minors, And as deep they are at SS in the minors, the team is also expected to sign international SS prospect Roderick Arias in January when the international signing period starts. He is regarded almost as high as Jasson Dominguez was when he signed with the team.

Do you mean Andrew? He was DFA's and claimed by LAA a few weeks ago.

I think you mean RHP Randy Vasquez. If so, it is because he did not need to be protected this winter. See the link below
Why Randy Vasquez does not need to be protected this winter - ( New Window )
The Yanks did a better job protecting prospects this year
rich in DC : 11/19/2021 9:11 pm : link
There are a few quality guys who COULD get picks, but not many likely to stick or hurt them with a new team.

The “bigger” names- C Breaux, RHP Boyle, 1B/OF Anthony Garcia, LHP Krook, OF Lockridge, and OF Aldenis Sanchez.

Breaux is a bat first C, Boyle had moments as both a SP and reliever, Garcia was a low A slugger with massive power- but a LONG way from the bigs.

Krook was a Rule 5 minor league phase guy last year- replaceable with bad command; Lockridge was generally disappointing until the second half of 2021; Sanchez was a low A speedy leadoff OF type.

IMO, someone will grab Boyle because you can never have enough pitching. Maybe Krook too, but he’s not really a prospect as much as a lotto ticket these days. The rest would have single carrying tools, but be difficult to keep on the roster and would likely have to go back to the minors for more development- a tough ask after they all missed a season already.
They should try Cabrera at 3B, after last year his ceiling may be more
Jim in Hoboken : 11/19/2021 9:28 pm : link
than just a utility IF.

I'm surprised they traded Sands, I guess they are really comfortable with Sanchez and Higgy or have something else in mind. Nelson has good stuff, but is on the Yankees reliever trajectory, ie at least 3 years on the MLB level before they become serviceable.
wow, farewell Clint of the legendary bat speed.
Del Shofner : 11/19/2021 10:40 pm : link
Seriously, I am sorry it didn't work out. He certainly had flashes of doing amazing things. The Yanks may think the concussion stuff is career ending or limiting. Which is really too bad.

I haven't been following the Yanks' offseason very closely. What's the latest on possible free agent signings?
How can anybody can be surprised to see Frazier go ?
Ron from Ninerland : 11/19/2021 10:53 pm : link
1. He isn't very good.

2. He wasn't liked by his teammates.

3. His mystery injuries indicate he doesn't want to be here.
LOL, the quality from ninerland never ceases

This is a very confusing post, the 1st 2 points I can see where you are going the 3rd one not a clue. Mystery injury? I have a friend who I play softball with who has the exact same thing as Clint. If he plays too long he gets vertigo symptoms. He is a fantastic softball player and is now a shell of himself because of what happens. I feel bad for Frazier I wish him well, but my bet is he will step away from the game because of his health condition.
Not surprised at all
Rick in Dallas : 11/20/2021 8:47 am : link
His health is a major concern but when he healthy I didn't see the production warranted to keep him.
It's too bad
Carson53 : 11/20/2021 9:59 am : link
that Frazier couldn't stay healthy, two out of the last three years. He would have cost the Yanks roughly 2.5 mill. in the
arbitration process. Wade on the other hand only about 700K?
It shows you that they wanted to keep the other five prospects, so they wouldn't lose them in the Rule V draft.
Cautionary tale about prospects
HomerJones45 : 11/20/2021 11:04 am : link
why you don't fall in love with draft picks and prospects and why proven performance garners big dollars.

For every MLB star, there are dozens who flame out along the way.

Exactly - and even the ones who you might think have proven themselves can go all pumpkin on ya (Sanchez/Torres).

The Yanks do not have a true shortstop on the roster following yesterday’s moves. Bring on Correa/Seager/Story, please.
Marinaccio supposedly throws 100mph with a nice change.
Jim in Hoboken : 11/20/2021 11:57 am : link
There is just no guarantees when it comes to arms, especially when you factor in injuries. Paying a reliever 15M a year is just not smart. Find 10 kids who throw 100 and see who stick.

Surprised they let Wade go. He was on the team most of the season and did serve a purpose. Don’t get me wrong, he wasn’t an everyday player. However, he was good enough to be on the mlb roster. Can’t say the same for Florial.
This team

Is not even a little interested in winning championships. Now they can't bother to hide it anymore. Another sickening owner with a puppet GM, who has hus puppet manager. All the blame on Boone, little blame for Cashman, no blame for the Coward, Hal Steinbrenner.
Good point Homer

I was sorry to see Wade go. Cashman may be gambling that he's not going to be claimed and they can get him back as a non roster player.

Yup. See Rays, comma Tampa.

So the NY Yankees chapter on Clint Frazier has been written. They could have gotten quite a haul in return for him once upon a time.

Get behind him? Wtf? They basically handed him the starting job last season. The guy is not healthy. And hasn’t been for a long time. How many chances does he get before we can say they “got behind him”?

G, if they could have gotten a haul, that would presume he was healthy and playing well. At that point they would be playing him daily.
