Baby it's cold outside is frequently known as the "date rape song." I don't happen to agree, but I see the viewpoint in a modern context, about how ideas about sex have changed.
"The neighbors might think. And what's in this drink?"
My favorite is an almost-Christmas song, "River" from Joni Mitchell.
And an overly religious (for me) and obscure song by Faith Hill, "A Baby Changes Everything," that I think is lovely. (Link) Link - ( New Window )
is all I need to get me in the spirit. Silent Night also has been a lifetime favorite, later enhanced when I found out that the composer is a long lost relative of my wife.
"My mother will start to worry
Beautiful what's your hurry?
My father will be pacing the floor
Listen to the fireplace roar
So really I'd better scurry
Beautiful please don't hurry
Well maybe just a half a drink more
I'll put some records on while I pour
The neighbors might think
Baby it's bad out there
Say what's in this drink?
No cabs to be had out there
I wish I knew how
Your eyes are like starlight now
To break this spell
I'll take your hat, your hair looks swell
Why thank you
I ought to say no, no, no sir
Mind if move in closer?
At least I'm gonna say that I tried
What's the sense of hurting my pride?
I really can't stay
Baby don't hold out"
That reminds me more of harassment than Christmas.

What looks like romance to some, in the context in which it was written, looks like harassment to others. Fortunately, I don't live in a world where I have to worry about it. I honestly feel sorry for those who do.

"Hark the Herald Angels Sing". "Have Yourself a Merry..." In Meet Me in St. Louis. I love the Spector Christmas album. I have a Gene Autry Christmas record that is surprisingly good. "Hey Santa" by the Wilson sisters for a more contemporary Pop hit.
(Some is terrible-Im looking at you Paul McCartney) but nothing puts me in the perfect Christmas spirit like the Vince Guaraldi Trio's Charlie Brown Christmas album. It's perfect.
My son sang that when he was 4 years old. He knew every word. He also had the cutest accent.
I fell in love with that song and still ask him to sing it today. He refuses though. Cutest thing I have ever heard in my life.

Was originally sung at a private party as a novelty. In that context the lyrics are entirely appropriate. People who see it as exploitive are likely unaware of it's origin.
