NGT: Carmel High School NYS Playoffs

M.S. : 11/20/2021 5:59 pm

I started a thread about this team several weeks ago. I haven’t seen such a AA powerhouse school out of Section One in a very long time.

They played Christian Brothers Academy today and it was over before it started:

Carmel 51
CBA 7

Next up is the winner of Arlington vs Newburgh (they went into OT today tied 28-28.)

Is my home town. Hoping for a title this year! Obviously not even close to Class AA, but still fun to watch.

Tioga beat Dolgeville 50-12 and next week (Nov. 26th) plays Oakfield-Alabama/Elba.
Yes!

A bunch of 150 lb guys playing both ways - old school! I didn’t think Section 4 had a AA school, but I see Corning is in that bracket. I Might stream the TC game next week since they’re playing in Syracuse. It’s almost better than Giant games lately, which is a sad state of affairs…

It probably IS better than the Giants! (:-)

Yep. Arlington went for the win on a 2-point conversion and fell a yard short.

Newburgh is a very fine team, and I mean no disrespect to them in saying they will be walking into a buzz saw next week.

Well done, Carmel!

I officiate HS soccer and lax, so venture up to Carmel all the time. It's such a small village (though geographically large extending north to Lake Carmel), that getting to this point in the States is pretty damn fine. Kind of surprised that Arlington, which is a sports powerhouse across the board, lost to Newburgh. River towns have been strong this fall, e.g., Suffern, though a good bit west.

So, where is that game to be played?

Carmel is an absolute beast this season.

If I’m a betting man (and I ain’t), it’s not a question of whether or not Carmel wins the AA NYS Public High School Football Championship, but rather how severely they mash their next two opponents on the way to their crowning ceremony.

They are the best team I’ve seen since the 2004 team of Ray Rice and Courtney Greene of New Rochelle.

Thanks, M.S., not beyond the realm of possibility from me. Reffed some college showcase games (footie) at fields in Circleville.

What makes you a Carmel, NY booster or partisan, or just that it is kicking Regionals and States' ass from lil' ol' Section 1?
I was down at our daughter's in Pleasantville last night -

P'ville is still alive in Class B, beat Port Jervis this weekend. Next weekend they play Ravena-something-something - basically from Ravena which is half way between Hudson and Albany. All fun stuff.

We were talking about the makeups of the school districts and the geographic areas they serve. Frankly I was surprised little Pleasantville would go this far in Class B but she says they take their ball seriously there.

Well… I’m a huge New Rochelle fan (played for them in the early 1970s), but I follow many of the Section One teams, and this season Carmel did to New Rochelle what New Rochelle has been doing to most teams for 20 years — dominate the LOS and impose their will on opponent. What I saw Carmel do New Rochelle just blew me away and I sensed/knew right there and then that this Carmel team was/is very special. So I’ve been sorta following Carmel and maybe just laughing a little to myself as they dismantle one team after the other.

P-Ville won the B State Championship about 4-5 years ago, going undefeated! They take their football very seriously! This season they have a fantastic RB who is playing QB / Wildcat position.

Very close to we live (Dai sushi is world class, tiny hole in the wall). P'ville women's soccer has been very strong the past few years, good young coach, this year more of a re-building year cuz they lost bunch of seniors. Wasn't aware of the American football explosion. Nice town.
wow, would have thought New Rochelle student
ColHowPepper : 11/21/2021 4:13 pm : link
body size was twice that of Carmel, even though obviously both AA. Just googled it and NR at 3,375 students and Carmel at 1,436, so 2.5 x as big. That's huge disparity in size and in result. Crazy. (Arlington 2,835)

New Rochelle’s long time coach Lou DiRienzo retired a couple of years ago and since then the team has played well, but has also been pummeled a few times under their new coach. And one of those pummelings came at the hands of Carmel.

That's so funny about Dai sushi - our daughter got us take-out from there last night! It was indeed very good.

As for P'ville women's soccer, look out for Shofner granddaughter #1 in about 8 years ...

Fun stuff! Tough time through Covid, as I said, little hole in the wall, shut down in-restaurant eating until just a few weeks ago.

God willing, I'll still be on the pitch, though quite unlikely. Fair play to her.
