Playoff Reality 9 wins right?

Essex : 11/22/2021 10:08 am
Obviously, winning tonight will make getting to nine easier, but this is one of the games we can lose.

I think we are going to need to take 2 of 3 of the Home to Dallas, @San Diego, @ Tampa Bay

And win all but one of the: Philly x2, Washington, Miami, Chicago. And, of course, if we can sweep these games, we can lose two of the three in the first category.

If we do that we are 9-8.
What have you seen on the football field

that makes you think this team can win 6 of 8?

Nothing, but just sizing up the situation. Not seeing if it was probable or even possible. Just making conversation after seeing the lay of the land after the Sunday games and the bunchup in the playoff contention.

I think as you laid out the Giants have five 'winnable' games and three 'probable losses'. Maybe they win one of the three probable losses, but I can't see them winning more than three of the winnable five. They're just not good enough.
Here's my guess
M.S. : 11/22/2021 10:42 am : link

at Buccaneers LOSS
Eagles LOSS
at Dolphins WIN
at Chargers LOSS
Cowboys LOSS
at Eagles LOSS
at Bears WIN
Washington WIN

6-11
......
Route 9 : 11/22/2021 10:51 am : link
They'll get clobbered by the LA Chargers. Easy win for them. 38-10.
whatever the combo of wins and losses
Producer : 11/22/2021 10:55 am : link
we all know this team is going 6-11 or 7-10

unless there is some stunning turnaround which is completely out of character with all involved in this franchise.

I can see 8-9 getting in
UConn4523 : 11/22/2021 10:57 am : link
however that would introduce a ton of tiebreakers, of which we'd probably be on the losing end of.

Many times fans take the present and project it to future performances.

Time and time we see the folly of this. Did you see Houston beating the Titans yesterday?

Did you figure on the Giants going into NO and winning ?

Essex simply made the pt 9’wins could make the play offs and gave the scenerio it would take for the Giants to get there.

It s what I m rooting for, it s why I watch the games.
Winning a game or two unexpectedly over the course of a season
JonC : 11/22/2021 11:04 am : link
is normal. This team winning 6 of 8 would be a complete reversal of fortune demonstrated on gamedays the past 25 games.
And
JonC : 11/22/2021 11:05 am : link
projecting past performances to the future isn't meaningless, it's plenty accurate with a team showing few signs of change.

Did anyone see the Giants sitting at 3-6 in November before the season started? If they did, that wouldn't sound like an outlandish forecaster to me.

What frustrates me is all of the “lack of talent” talk or the 2-3 years away talk. I wish fans would demand more.

Look at the Eagles. This team had a ton of dead cap money, a rookie HC & a clear rebuilding year. Yet, they are 5-6 and scoring a ton of points.

Why is it so hard for the Giants?
I need to see a win tonight
djm : 11/22/2021 11:10 am : link
to really start believing this is a "good" team. I know we aren't terrible, but not terrible isn't good enough. I honestly won't really truly believe unless they win tonight and then win next week because Philly can always ruin a good season, even with a win tonight.

The Giants are still more than capable of ruining any chance at a playoff appearance. They have become adept at this. We need another @ Seattle 2020 type moment and we need it tonight. Then beat Philly.

5-7 with a win against Philly would keep the season alive and you'd then need to go 4-1 to all but lock down a playoff spot. We all know this to be true, so let's just say it right now, the Giants need to win tonight. We need to not be the get right game for other teams.
Nobody would even question the Eagles playoff chances now
Essex : 11/22/2021 11:11 am : link
but they were sitting on 2-5 a few weeks ago, beat the Lions, the Saints without Winston, Kimara, and Thomas and two starting tackles. They beat the Broncos without two starting tackles and lost a close game to the Chargers. Now, granted they won the Saints and Lions games convincingly, but that was against really bad teams and the entire universe thinks they are now a juggernaut. Perception, and reality can change overnight in this league so it is always worth mapping out how it does so, even if the odds of it actually happening are unlikely.

Raiders and Saints were good wins and same with the Panthers, I guess. The thing ... All of those wins were followed up with losses. You gotta win multiple games in a row in order to be taken seriously. Or have a winning record.

You can't just lose two, win one, lose three, win one.

So after the rest and a win against a now-struggling Raiders team, the big question mark is can they keep it going?

Ya they also won four in a row last year but then lost three in a row after that.

I was going to bring up Philly and how it annoying it is to see Hurts out there running like a madman, even if unorthodox and unsustainable style, he's putting up points.

I truly have to ask do the Giants allow Jones the freedom to run as much as Hurts has.

Because they can score points.

I’m not so sure 8 wins doesn’t get the last playoff spot.

Tonight is the season for the Giants. Win and it’s why not us, lose and it’s tied for the the worst record in the conference.

I don't think they win tonight but then I can see them winning against Philly next week. I can definitely see them pulling sonething like that.

Anyone see Philly's remaining schedule?

Other than at Washington, they don't have to step a foot outside Philly and New Jersey for the rest of the year.

Two in Jersey at the Giants, then at the Jets.

They're off.

Then 3 out of their last 4 games have division foes coming to their building.

How can you fuck that up?

Because their ability to scout talent, and build a modern NFL roster, are poor. Some more people need to go, and it will probably include people DG put in place, while Mara family members will probably stay put.

Yesterday, was their first home win. The schedule is easy, but the fact that they are not leaving Philly doesn't make sense to me at all. In the NFL, the traveling team travels on Saturday morning and are home by Sunday night in most cases. It is really not a big factor.

I don't think there is a thing I hate more than traveling but you know exactly what I mean. That's a nice set up they got going there.

They aren’t the same type of runner in the slightest though. Jones is a straight line guy who once he gets moving he can get to a nice top speed and pick up chunk plays. He doesn’t have the agility and shiftiness Hurts has to do what they do with him in the pocket or in the run game.

as long as Chris Mara and Tim M. are running the Player Personnel division, I can't see anything changing. This team will be spinning its wheels for a LONG time yet I fear.
