Setting aside a funky week 1 game against Denver (week 1 is always weird), this team has played extremely competitively this season, and I don't care how much people on this board don't want to hear it.
Are they a great team? Of course not. But in the 8 games starting with Week 2, the team has played six competitive games and two uncompetitive games.
The uncompetitive games were against the Cowboys and Rams, two teams which are basically a game out of first place in the entire NFL.
News flash! The best teams in the NFL are tough!
Aside from when we played two great teams (teams so good they are tied for the second fewest losses in the league so far this season), we haven't lost a game by more than a field goal since week 1.
We have had 4th quarter leads in 6 of 9 games.
This isn't a crappy team. We've played down to bad opponents and lost games sloppily to be sure, but this isn't a crappy team.
The point of the season isn’t to succeed over small windows of time, it’s to win enough games to make the tournament.
The Giants play 6 teams with a losing record as of now in the final two months of the season.
Thomas is back, Barkley is back, Golladay is back, Toney is back. Skura is playing better in my view than Lemieux did last year. Peart looks like he can supplant Solder.
All things considered, going into the back half of the season, most of the nucleus on offensive is there. Time to go win some games if this is a positive story.
The Front Office thought they did address those issue though.
In their view, they were getting Carter and Ximines back from injury and they added a top pick in Ojulari. The GM also said he didn't add anything big to the OL in free agency or the draft because they had more confidence in their existing OL guys than the rest of us.
remember?
Yeah I'm not going to die on the hill defending Gettleman... lol. That said, if Thomas and Gates had stayed healthy I think the OL would be at least league average at this point. Also, we all knew we needed pass rush, but who thought it would be this bad? I certainly didn't.
Now, tonight, would be a nice step with a win. An actual winning streak? How about that. But, if they lose, I don't care if it is by 1 point or 20. It's just another in a LONG string of losses.
This thinking will destroy the team.
Last year we lost TWO games out of 10 by 3 points or less.
The year before, we actually lost ALL TWELVE games by more than 3 points.
A season like this is one which is a) not over, because things sometimes revert to the mean and b) could end without playoffs, but be the kind of season where with a little more mature coaching, a little more health from our OL, and one impact draft pick we find ourselves going 12-5 next year.

This was exactly the argument for last season, based on how they played the second half of the year. This season was supposed to be where we saw some wins.
Very easy to just keep moving the expectations clock back.

Thomas and Gates played all of last year. And the OL wasn't league average.
Who though things would be this bad...really?
It's all there. How can you not go at least 10-7, right?

Really? I'm tired of shit like this and "moral victories" and the like. The bottom line is this team has sucked for the better part of a decade. It no longer matters if games are close or not. A loss is a loss is a loss. And the Giants have chalked up more than anyone else over the last several years. Win some some games and then you can look at individual games for these mini positives. But, until then, they lost the game. Period.

The team doesn’t rely upon the thinking of BBI.
Get the fuck over yourself.
We just went over how the Giants finished 5-3 last year...if that spoke to an improving team then what happened?

And the season before
there are dozens of posters who actually think and post with this as their mindset...
"One thing Garrett and Jones have going for them
Go Terps : 2/4/2021 6:37 pm : link
They set the bar so fucking low with their 2020 that they can only improve in 2021. I look forward to posts this time next year telling us how 21 points per game, while still well in the bottom half of the league, was a big improvement that certainly means great things for 2022."
And here we are. Haven't quite reached 21 PPG though...
Same shit different year...'Improvement' - ( New Window )

we'd be the only undefeated team in the league right now.

These people deserve this team.
That all being said the Giants have the worst record in the league in the last 5 years. And here they are again with the season over by Thanksgiving. That says a lot.
I think the throwing around of the phrase. “‘The season s over” might be one of the most annoying phrases, used by fans
It seems like a quitters mind set.
3-6, where 9 wins might make the playoffs, season is far from over for those of a competitive nature.
Fortunately the guys playing the game don’t think it s over
Want to make a point by saying here we are at Thanksgiving and the Giants chances of making the playoffs are once again slim, no one can argue
But that quitter mantra is really distasteful
Quote:
46% of NFL games end with a score margin of 7 or less. The whole league is competitive, and the line between winning and losing is razor thin.

You know we're not playing in the games, right?
It's pathetic.

Yea, I said it was annoying not that it affected the game?
Odd post by you.
The team isn't bad because of the critical posters in this board. The critical posters on this board are observing the team is bad and unlikely to turn its fortunes around as currently comprised. That's not quitting, it's observations based on watching a lot of bad football and having developed a good sense of the root causes.

Wow!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Man, some of you are so blinded by complete homerism.
You realize they were ranked according to PFF 31st last year despite playing in a conference that was arguably the worst in the modern era of NFL History?
SO let's get this straight in believing their OL was going to be good. They would've had three OL with 1 year of experience, a declining OL in Hernandez now in year 4, and a player in Gates that performed well for 1 year-- so OFC they were all going to improve!!! SO says the UNBIAS Giants fan.
Other players on other teams will decline BUT THE GIANTS in your UNBIAS OPINION will have ALL THIER OL improve from worst in the league to average in just 1 year while basically they have as a unit 1 year of experience.
Man, c'mon!!!!!

I meant average - not good.
