Ok ... is this the NFL or Pop Warner?

Spider56 : 11/22/2021 1:08 pm
This one brings a tear to my eye ... but I’m not sure if it’s nostalgia for growing up in the 60s or because NFL officiating has sunk to new lows. I’m not condoning family insults but pretty soon the players might be wearing garter belts instead of jock straps. Have at it.

NFL officiating couldn't have gotten much worse than it was.

Eric, I’m not sure if you’re serious or joking, but there’s an embedded video in the link with the refs call.
I’m waiting for the day when no one is surprised about taunting calls

They are obviously being real strict about anything outside the game. It’s been going on all year. At what point do we start blaming the players for still pushing the limits?

The NFL has always tried to find their next lane of revenue, such as games being played in England (soon to be Germany), women’s uptick in apparel. Now, they have Nate B on a kids show going over game highlights. The CTE dilemma has threatened the NFL’s future, so they are trying to integrate kids even deeper. Hence, the taunting rule implementation.

They want a clean game. Is this over the top? Sure. But it’s ongoing and there is no end in sight. Players have to adjust

"I know you are , but what am I?" get's that penalty overturned but not everyone says it.
NFL rules are joke.

no "taunting", but choreographed celebrations are ok.
When pointing and jokes are penalties
Koffman : 11/22/2021 2:22 pm : link
but filming a choreographed celebration in the end-zone 90 yards away isn't, then the NFL has officially become a joke of an organization.
Meanwhile San Diego...

That's what I was thinking, it's ok to clown for the camera after a score, isn't that the definition of taunting? It's showing up your opponent and planning to do so. It's premeditated taunting.

Why John Mara sucks
is this really the NFL's fault? or the individual refs fault?
japanhead : 11/22/2021 3:33 pm : link
the ref could have used his discretion to not throw a flag there, yes?

must've been one hell of a "yo momma" joke.

that said the focus on taunting is indeed dumb, unless it's something completely egregious (i.e., not a yo momma joke, nor a bears linebacker looking at the steelers sideline and taking two steps toward that sideline before going back to his own sideline).
Doesn't context count here ?
Ron from Ninerland : 11/22/2021 3:45 pm : link
We don't know what was said. If it went beyond the usual trash talk and was serious enough that it was going to escalate into a fight, then the ref did his job by throwing a flag.

There are plenty of things worth criticizing about the officiating . I'm not sure this in one of them.
Don't

Need context to know the NFL and its officiating is terrible.

A guy got flagged yesterday for pointing to a defender as he crossed the endzone.

Mara, Rivera, whoever else, are the worst.

Agreed, there is no consistency in the enforcement of rules nor the rules themselves. Also the Chiefs player that got flagged for taunting while the Cowboys player ripped his helmet off by the facemask. What the fuck?

If it was not a call by an NFL ref, it would have been unbelievable.

And let's not forget they fined that player on the Bears for looking at the side line. Just unbelievable.
