Watching 2nd Half of Season: Who is a Giant in '22?

christian : 11/22/2021 6:56 pm
No I don't think the season over, and yes this will include discussion about money, so be warned.

There are a number of contributors I'm really interested in observing the back half of the season.

I think an under discussed topic is how many key players either aren't under contract, are in their final year, or are candidates to be cut this off season.

And as an added bonus, this doesn't even include Barkley or Jones!

Notable Free Agents

No chance in hell Solder is a Giant in '22. I don't know about Hernandez...I guess it depends on how much he's looking for/the open market will give him. He's serviceable.

I don't think there's any chance Solder is re-signed, but the Giants certainly need a new a swing and/or right tackle.

I also think Dixon is a goner. Or he should be at least. He's been awful.

Yeah Dixon is playing for his job in my view. I can't imagine he's going count 3M+ against the cap next year.
Bradberry and Martinez

have had their contracts reworked in the last few months. One of them twice. Out of the free agents maybe Peppers (coming off injury with a cheap contract) and Johnson will be back? The rest I doubt it. If I had to guess Sheppard and Ryan have the best chance to be back because of their contracts. Cutting Rudolph and Dixon saves the Giants about 6 million on the cap. Dixon over 3 million alone. There's no chance he plays on the Giants on his current contract in 2022. Hopefully they don't even offer him a pay cut the Giants need a better punter.
A Johnson, and 2 other guys

That the Giants are currently a dysfunctional sports team, like the Minnesota Timberwolves or something. Don't put it past them to do something foolish like extend several players unworthy of extension.

My point is both Bradberry and Martinez are going into the final years of their contracts and are owed substantial new money.

Bradberry is owed 13.4M new money, Martinez is owed 8.4M.

The Giants will need to create cap space, so I believe both players will be extended and their 2022 cap hit lowered.
