Patrick Graham

blueblood'11 : 11/23/2021 7:41 am
I know there are a lot of threads out there today that touch on a lot of what we have been witnessing all year long and in particular last night. I know most of the scorn has been directed at Garrett and rightfully so. He deservers it.

Having said that, I think Graham is as bad if not worse in how he runs this defense. He gives and gives and gives to the point he's almost always conceding points in an effort to avoid the big play. What kind of mindset is that. Every game he allows teams to enter the red zone in hopes to keep them out with only three points scored but teams do manage to find the end zone too at times.

The Giants brought in two guys who were outstanding cover corners when they were with other teams and he constantly has them playing ten yards off the receivers. He never tries to disrupt with press coverage. Hardly ever blitzes. Never does anything creative to disrupt offensive lines to create pressure on the quarterback.

The head coach signs off on all these game plans. and in the end all anyone wants to focus on is the Garrett. Well I think Graham should be in the bulls eye as well. And judge can stew and spew all he wants but in the end he's the one overseeing all this garbage.

It is all true, but Bradberry

Even playing off the WR still manages to get burned.

Do you think

If we didn’t play to take away the deep stuff that Brady wouldn’t have just torched us deep?

Graham’s game plan wasn’t as bad as it was made out to be and was similar to what WFT did last week. The problem was the Bucs knew we weren’t going to score points on offense and didn’t need to try to take any shots. If the offense was somewhat competent Brady would have been forced to take shots into the two high look.
I'm not sure I've ever seen a worse effort from an NFL

defense then the first Tampa drive. It looked liked a controlled scrimmage and later in the game when Tampa's backup LG was blowing Leonard Williams off the ball might have been worse.
I don't see the purpose of playing Defense like that

against an experienced QB, or if you have no edge pressure.

Just waiting for them to make an unforced error and then you take advantage? And if they don't then you really are just
paying guys to just tackle after they get first downs.

Great way to use the cap...
Our defensive game plan is the equivalent

that is really hard to watch.

But the team was still in it until all the offensive turnovers. It really does slow down a good offense.

Just seems like he needs to mix it up more, which i thought was his strength? The Broncos knew what he was doing and certain the GOAT knew what he was doing. Just pitch and catch. Great stats for the other team.

I'd rather loss with a Spag's style defense personally.

Oh, and yes, i thought we spent all this money on CB's so he could finally play man to man????
I think Graham is worse that JG
Kanavis : 11/23/2021 8:09 am : link
There are injuries all over the offense. The defense has everyone except Martinez. He simply lets the opposing offense have any play they want within 15 yards. Most plays we have 2 safeties 15 + yards deep. 8 in the box? We are playing with 6. I have never seen anything like it. No blitz. And then, to make matters worse, when we rush 4, they are all bunched up together and running into each other. Other teams have the DEs spread out to give everyone space to work. Oh, I get it, the game plan is to sit back and wait for the greatest QB of all time to make mistakes. Seems like a good plan.

JG has to be evaluated fairly by the new GM. Absent JG losing his job, we are stuck with Graham indefinitely. He is terrible and his defense is unwatchable.
FWIW, he never seems ready

on the 1st series. Like he is waiting to see what the offense is doing before developing a plan. Last night Brady just out coached him. Yes Brady out coached him.

Going down 7-0 on the first drive set the tone and puts all of the pressure on the offense. TB created an abnormally amount of pressure last night with just 4 rushing (one time only 3) and the offense could not execute. The NYG created very little pressure with their 4 (sometimes 3). It always took a blitz to create pressure. We need a top Edge (along with a replacement for Hernandez).

The offense wasn’t going to do shit even if the Giants didn’t give up a score to Tampa on the first drive. The defense wasn’t great but it was a 10-10 game at one point, and the only touchdown we scored was because of the defense.
As Discussed

Above this defense is brutal to watch.Perhaps effective on some level. The way we were overmatched last night it's surprising that we only have up 30 points.

The big difference is the WFT put pressure on Brady. This team does not put pressure on anybody. The 3-4 defense does not work when you have one good lineman and a bunch of crappy linebackers.
Not a big fan of Graham

but I don't think anything happens out there without Joe Judge's blessing.

Here's a quote from Judge about the pass rush. The LT line sounded like his version of the Rick Pitino speech in Boston.

Quote:
Look, to me, the pass rush, it’s all tied together. It’s all 11. It’s not just one guy on the edge. Like look, when (Former Giants Player) Lawrence Taylor walks back in here, we won’t worry about scheming anything, we’ll just go ahead and let him rush off the edge. But right now, we’re relying on all 11 to do their jobs. It starts with the coverage on the back end to deny quick access throws. It ties into the responsibilities with the mid-tier, the second-level, the linebackers and drop downs safeties based on the defense, and then it comes down to the execution of the guys upfront who are involved in the base-four rush or the blitz. So, can scheme help you? It can. It comes down to individual execution, alright? But in terms of can you out-scheme another team, we don’t want to rely on that all the time. We just want to make sure we put our players in the position to play to their strengths. Sometimes it may look like some kind of scheme, but for us, it’s week by week, it’s a different plan.

Personally, I think it is easier to get burned playing off the receiver. It is easier to get frozen or out of position waiting for the receiver to come to you. That doesn't mean every snap should be tight press coverage. But, CBs all playing 10-15 yards off the ball and S all playing 20-30 yards off all the time is horrible and just not working.
He seems to think that he’s fooling people
Metnut : 11/23/2021 11:53 am : link
by giving up “less” points only because the opponents drives take longer before they inevitably score.
Its a pathetic strategy.
mittenedman : 11/23/2021 11:57 am : link
Will it work once in a while? Sure. But its always terrible to watch and it ain’t winning any championships either.

I cant imagine being a DC and deciding thats the way you’re going to play.

This is the New York Giants. Thats the best they can do? Play fucking rope-a-dope and pray the other team screws up?

Fuck em all.
