Sad thought - a decade of young Giants fans

Bold Ruler : Mod : 11/23/2021 8:22 am
My daughter is 14 and sat on the couch with me last night excited to see Barkley return. She rooted so hard for Jones. And you could feel the excitement drain out of her as drive after drive ensued and we performed as the Giants do.

She wants to be a football fan. She loves the Giants. But at 14 she has endured basically garbage football since before she was in kindergarten. Its hard for her to sit and watch a team that sucks every weekend and I don't have an answer for her.

I think of so many kids around her age who have come into watching football only to know the Giants as a loser franchise. Many of us had such joy as kids rooting for the Giants. It has me worried for the fan base in general.

It's a shame.
Try 15 years of lousy football

Only knows the NYG as the shitty FB team that makes daddy upset every sunday.
As someone who grew up in the 1970s

I compeltely empathize with her.

But, having endured those awful years, the upturn for the Giants in the mid 1980s was cathartic and immensely enjoyable. I learned never to take success for granted. Soak it all in and live it up.

and my 7yo has officially become an Eagles fan. I’ve tried to get him into the Giants but they lose every week. He got invited to Sunday's Eagles game in a suite with a friend (I couldn’t say no) and it sealed his fate.

I wonder if management knows that they are literally losing their future value stream by this perpetual incompetence.

last night I was tucking my 7 year old in just after kickoff and she said "Sorry Dad but I'm pretty sure the Giants are going to lose. Every time they play at night and I ask you in the morning they ALWAYS lose". Kid speaks the truth.
I started out as a very young Giants fan in 1966

and there was nothing to cheer for then either and look, I'm still here. She'll appreciate winning one day if it happens.

Oh man that is just brutal and honestly the most heartbreaking thing in this thread lol
It's all about perspective

My son is 7 going on 8 and his "football consciousness," if you will, began about 3 years ago. That means that ALL he knows is Gettleman football.

And that means that almost any improvement (the bar is low) is going to be met with excitement and optimism. It's like buying the dip after a stock has tanked :)
Just lost my 10 year old daughter to the Chiefs.

She loves Mahomes. Hell, so do I.
I go to every Giants home game and have brought her a bunch of times. Doesn't matter. We suck shaved donkey balls for a decade, with no hope of competency in sight.

Probably will be walking away from my PSL next year unless we get R. Wilson. I really had high hopes for this year.

Brutal. I'm sorry, this is a terrible thing to have happen.
I became a Giants fan in 1965...

I was 14. I had to wait until 1981 to have a representative team, until 1986 to win a championship. Now I have five Super Bowl appearances and four championships. I know attention spans are not what they once were...but good things come to those who wait.
