Lack of creativity and predictability

There were comments made during the game by Luis Riddick that were very revealing

He was critical of the coaching on both offense and defense. Riddick criticized the Giants for being predictable and with a lack of creativity

On defense the Giants did not disguise their intentions and Brady knew where to go with the ball pre snap. To paraphrase Riddick, you cannot beat Brady unless you make him uncomfortable and disguise the defense.

By playing the same defense continually the Giants made it easy for Tampa

In the first half the Giants almost exclusively played a (2) high soft zone.
They allowed the underneath short passing without contesting passes in the flats
The tackling was awful and recognition by the defense was lacking.
They never attempted to change up and never attempted apply pressure.

Brady picked apart the defense with ease. It was too easy.
In the second half they went single high but never tried to disguise the coverages.
Riddick stated that Brady is too smart, and he read the coverage pre snap and changed his focus. Brady went to the weakness of the single high by attacking the middle of the field.

What the Giants never did was attempt to use creative rush packages. They rarely tried to blitz and rushed 3 or 4 without any pressure.
The Giants eschewed man coverage

One other note about the pass rush. The Giants have no speed on the DL. There were times where the line did have pressure, but Brady and his 5 flat 40 outran the pressure.
The linebackers cannot tackle, apply pressure or cover. In the run game rather than filling holes and attacking they wait until the play comes to them 4 yards downfield.

On offense Riddick was very critical of the play calling. He commented on some specific plays.

He could not understand the fourth down play call.

It started with personnel, the Giants had their best players on the bench and went to a heavy package.
The personnel package told Tampa what to expect. They knew the play.
It is the same play that the Giants have used many times before in similar situations. The same situation occurs in the Redzone. Garrett reduces his options by calling the same plays. His personnel predict the play call.

Garrett is either conservative or he uses gadget plays there is no middle ground. He does not play to the players strengths. He does not attempt to set plays up or attack downfield.

It was not all bad coaching, Riddick also pointed out bad performance by many players including the putrid play of interior line. He also pointed out how Golladay missed an easy block on a flat pass to Toney.

Patrick Graham is an oddity. Seems very smart and he is well liked by the players. But he has a Jekyll and Hyde element to his coaching. At times, he does a fantastic job. At other times, he leaves you just shaking your head.

It appears Garrett is on his way out. He had an awesome OL in Dallas. He is finding out just how difficult it is to do anything with an incompetent one in New York.
Disapointing

How is it that with (2) weeks to prepare that this was the best that the team could offer ?

The team was not prepared and the game calling was the same as we have seen

I have stated this previously but the Giants are so conservative.
It is in their DNA to be risk adverse

The Giants play to keep games close in the hopes that they can squeek out a win

Playing not to lose is not playing to win.

Unfotunately this all comes back to Joe Judge and his philosophy
That comment is nonsense

We ran a flanker pass with Toney, scored a td on a pass to an offensive tackle who was deliberately left uncovered, ran a pass play from a jumbo formation on 4th and 1, ran a number of option plays with the qb, ran a number of sets with multiple tight ends and H backs.

Not that we were particularly good doing any of it, but it was not for lack of trying.

Btw, what exactly is the Senior Offensive Assistant supposed to be doing here? No one has mentioned his name other than as a successor to the defrocked Garrett.

Giants have had issues coming out of the by since the days of Jim Fassel. I don't get it.

Valid question. I don't think it's just our scheme that is terrible. It's game preparation too. This offense looks downright disorganized most of the time. Whose responsible for making sure these players can execute the playbook?
4 th and 1

The point is that you don't take your best players off the field in an attempt to fool the defense

The 4th and 1 and the pass to Thomas were gadget plays.
Why is it that all other teams can run their base offense to gain 1 yard.

The Giants can't run a play to pick up a yard?
Because the OL is historically bad

and Garrett has no confidence in it, or many of his players. They all constantly come up tiny.
The lack of creativity is one thing

but when your actively scheming up plays for Kyle Rudolph, that is when you lose me.

The screen to him in the first quarter and the biggest offensive play of the game was a pass to him.

Why?

Why do the Giants run a base 3-4 ?
Their Linebackers are awful
