Coming into the season, he was the guy who I thought was going to break out and really turn himself into a true Pro Bowl caliber impact player.
He hasn't been awful. He's not in the top 10 reasons why this Franchise is a mess right now.
But I'm disappointed by how irrelevant he has become. Nobody even talks about him. His name isn't mentioned during the game. He's just there.
I have thought this from the time he was drafted.
we have a lot of quality DTs and no linebackers. put dex and williams in the middle spelled by Johnson and we got a good rotation. just need real DE's who can pass rush and set the edge.

belongs inside. Agree he's been invisible too often and is not living up to draft selection.

Making him into a fucking end in a 3-4 is just another bizarre fucking decision by this horrible organization. He is probably a all pro DT in a 403.
I thought the Giants were getting a Vita Vea type guy. Huge, athletic and disruptive inside.
Well the guy is just as inconsistent as everyone else on this team. Occasional flashes with long periods of average or worse.
Who knows, maybe it's his conditioning? The guy looked gassed in the first half.... after 15 days off. Not good.
The expectations are fairly higher than "not a negative".
when his time is up.
We've got dozens and dozens of players you could say the same thing about.
When a team is so far gone, we have lots and lots of leeway in letting players walk.
If need be, Giants can locate the exit door for Dexter.
Who cares?
What is Dexter if he hits his 80th percentile outcome? A good run stopper who gets occasional pressure?
If he hits the 99th percentile, you've got a stud, but the 99th percentile only happens 1% o the time.

I dont think it's wrong or unfair to expect more from a top 10 draft pick than just "acceptable".
out of position.
Yep, and playing out of position isn't enough to see so little impact...
Agree. We're wasting him by playing him in a 3-4. I hope the new GM considers changing back to a 4-3 even if it takes a year to really get the personnel to do so.

But then what would we do with our incredible stable of LBers?
He turned 24 2 weeks ago, and I think he works better lighter.
200 DL available each year, of the 100+ left after the draft there’s gotta be a massive and strong player who can lock up the middle 51%( about 41%> Shelton) of the time in a 3-4 line flip, for a year or 2 until the league catches on.
Like many others they don’t seem to be putting him in the best position for his talent.
Also embarrassing.
Thank you. Please try to explain this to our "philosopher" friend.

Gettleman drafted from 2018 and 2019 that may be able to contribute something?

He wasn’t a top 10. He was 17th I believe. But he’s a first rounder none the less.
Well that’s Judge’s fault for not keeping more than 5 DLs on the roster.

I’d support this; convert to a 4-3, draft two edges (say Hutchinson and Ojabo or Ebiketie), maybe bring in a stop-gap FA at one of the edges like Justin Houston or Jabaal Sheard, draft a SAM linebacker and a defensive tackle in the mid-rounds (there’s a few candidates I’ve been scouting). The wild card is Ojulari as to whether or not he’d be a lineman or linebacker.
