The Russell Wilson to NYG talk is starting

Sean : 11/23/2021 1:00 pm
Albert Breer predicted Wilson would be a Giant next year in his half time periscope Q& A last night. Colin Cowherd & Nick Wright just both said either the Giants or Dolphins make the most sense for Wilson.

I wouldn’t do this. Wilson is on the other side of 30 and is making a ton of money. But, the talk is starting. I think it’ll be a fascinating QB market with Watson, Wilson & Rodgers.

It doesn't make sense
JonC : 11/23/2021 1:01 pm : link
NYG has a ton of needs on both sides of the ball. If nothing else, it's been proven out. Probably half of their starting 22 isn't good enough.
I think it depends the price
ajr2456 : 11/23/2021 1:02 pm : link
.
poor wilson
Platos : 11/23/2021 1:03 pm : link
i feel bad for him
I think a QB like Wilson would make this team look a lot better
PatersonPlank : 11/23/2021 1:04 pm : link
We do have playmakers. Improve the middle of the line through draft/FA, and I think it would be a massive difference
Wilson is a top shelf quarterback
Go Terps : 11/23/2021 1:05 pm : link
I wouldn't write this move off offhand from a football standpoint. My question would be financially... Is it even possible?
Is the cap going up
Jimmy Googs : 11/23/2021 1:05 pm : link
$40M next season?
If there is any truth to this
Lines of Scrimmage : 11/23/2021 1:05 pm : link
it tells me Mara is still 100% on board with Judge and that Judge has behind the scenes been saying he can't win with Jones.

the giants have no cap space next season, or really this season
japanhead : 11/23/2021 1:06 pm : link
apparently. doubt this happens. why would any player on wilson's level-- one of only a few players in a position to basically pick his landing spot-- want to go to a dumpster fire organization like NYG. the giants have clearly botched their rebuild to almost comical effect, and whiffed repeatedly on coaching and front office hires.

one would think wilson would want to go to a team that is better constructed, with a proven coach, that is built to win now. kind of like brady did.
He will turn 33 on Monday
US1 Giants : 11/23/2021 1:06 pm : link
No thanks.
the giants need to do a true rebuild
mphbullet36 : 11/23/2021 1:06 pm : link
and there is talk about this team going after an aging QB with a bloated salary?

If he is a FA...and willing to take a discount...sure
George from PA : 11/23/2021 1:07 pm : link
In trade....no way.

I am not as down as JonC in balance of 22....but the Giants need everyone of the premium draft picks....to secure edge and OL once and for all.
We are already seeing him…
Chris in Philly : 11/23/2021 1:07 pm : link
running around behind a line that doesn’t block for him. Him coming to this OL will just be like watching Benny Hill.
How the hell are we getting Russ in
Section331 : 11/23/2021 1:08 pm : link
under the cap? Not to mention, trading for a 33 year old QB when we already know that next year is lost is a really bad idea.

This is little more than click bait. If a new GM made a move like this, I'd fire him on the spot.
Wilson is done. No tread left on those tires
MartyNJ1969 : 11/23/2021 1:10 pm : link
his skills diminish every week
Russ makes
Enzo : 11/23/2021 1:10 pm : link
a lot of sense for a team with a good roster and coaching who needs a QB to put them over the top. That's not us.

Why do you think this team needs a true rebuild? What they need is a QB ; some oline players ; and another pass rusher.

That should be doable with their draft picks even if it means trading down to get some decent o line players
The team that make the most sense
GNewGiants : 11/23/2021 1:11 pm : link
and again I dont know their financials and raft pick situation is Pittsburgh. Very good running back abd underrated WR core. Plus you know the defense will be better next year.

Ben is cooked. They need a QB instantly.
There isnt
Blueblue : 11/23/2021 1:12 pm : link
A qb in the league that could come here and have success with Garret and our current online.
Saying no to Wilson..
Sean : 11/23/2021 1:13 pm : link
kind of confirms that this roster needs a complete teardown. I just don’t see Mara will see it that way. He just ponied up a lot of money this past offseason, he expects to win now I’m sure.
Wilson is declining.
FStubbs : 11/23/2021 1:13 pm : link
No thank you. It would be yet another dumb move and we'd probably give them both our #1s for him.
This is so stupid
section125 : 11/23/2021 1:16 pm : link
if you just look at the Giants CAP position.
Hes due $19M next year,
Section331 : 11/23/2021 1:17 pm : link
where the hell is the cap space coming from? The is pure click bait BS from Breer, who's made a career of that.
It would be Fran Tarkenton from the 1960s all over again
M.S. : 11/23/2021 1:18 pm : link

He made a bad Giants team a .500 team, but that was about all. And we surrendered lots of Draft picks for him, including Ron Yary.

You got that right

Tarkenton came in and instantly the Giants were a contender with only Bob Tucker to throw to

Wilson is very very much like Tarkenton, a great scrambler, accurate and smart.....As to Wilson- Pay the man

Put Danny Boy back on the bench to learn and recover his confidence

There will be no Garrett
Of this I am 99.99999999 percent sure

as to the Cap, cut whoever needs to be cut
According to spotrac
uconn18 : 11/23/2021 1:21 pm : link
The giants are 19th in cap space with $3-4 million.
Cutting solder would free $14 million with $4 mill dead.

If this ends up being an actual possibility, I don’t think the cap will get in the way.

I heard this from a Pitt fan friend of mine today too. They have like 40mm in cap space next yr after Ben clears the books in 2021.

33 is the new 23 when it comes to QB these days. Remember defenders are not allowed to even look in their direction anymore.
Is he a Free Agent?

Come on, Fran Tarkenton was 50 fucking years ago, and the best they could do was .500. Stop with the quick fix, it isn't going to work. This mess needs more than a band aid.
Fuck it, go get'em.
bceagle05 : 11/23/2021 1:34 pm : link
If he gets healthier and starts looking like himself again, it's as good a plan as any right now. I'm all for a complete tear down and rebuild, but I don't think we're doing that.

Sounds like a bad move to me. I think the Tarkington comparison above is a good assessment
The wrong side of 30?
UConn4523 : 11/23/2021 1:34 pm : link
his game is built to last, and has no significant injuries on his resume that I can recall. He’s one of the most efficient QBs in the history of the game and that doesn’t seem to be changing.

I’d love to have him for the next 5 years.
Wilson makes this team better overnight.

That would be another Giant mistake.

If you were a fan then as I was. Tarkenton made you proud to be a Giants Fan again, and win or lose we were in every game

DO IT MARA!!!!!
Gonna need to see how Wilson's season turns out.
bradshaw44 : 11/23/2021 1:39 pm : link
He appears to be having some affect from that finger injury. If he looks crappy the remainder of the year then I wouldn't break the bank for him.
The idea that we shouldn’t pursue Wilson if available
uconn18 : 11/23/2021 1:40 pm : link
Because we need to “tear it all down” makes no sense to me.
We’re not starting a rebuild and we “tore it all down” 5 years ago and how has that worked out.

I don’t think rebuilding in the NFL involves becoming as bad as possible the same way it does in the NBA. I mean look at the bucs, the chiefs, ravens, pats etc.
They never were nearly as bad as we are right now and they’re all contenders.
No
AcidTest : 11/23/2021 1:43 pm : link
way. We need to rebuild. Stop trying for stop gap measures. Tear it down and start all over. And as others noted, where would we get the cap room, and why would Wilson come here? His OL right now in Seattle sucks. Why come to another team with an even worse OL?
Make it stop! Please!
GiantBlue : 11/23/2021 1:45 pm : link
Robinson Cano of the NFL? No please!
Hopefully Seattle will do a trade
Batenhorst7 : 11/23/2021 1:48 pm : link
I'd love to see Daniel Jones go out there and have Pete Carroll fix his issues

Jones is a good soldier and Carroll a great teacher

Maybe we could eventually bring Jones back fixed like Minny did with Fran Tanrkenton

Minn and Mara made some kind of lend lease deal

But we didn't "tear it all down" 5 years ago. Management was convinced that 2017 was an outlier, and they could win a championship with Eli. That was the whole rationale for taking Barkley, that he was a pro-ready weapon to help Eli.

And they've been trying to fill in the gaps ever since. Trading valuable assets for an older QB would be more of the same.
We need a new VP of football operations
