After last nights debacle I am pretty down on Jones. However the reality here is that Judge just handed Jones a chance to survive. If he starts playing well and the offense starts scoring, people can point to Garrett and say it was his fault all along. If the play continues, whoever the new OC coming in is will likely want to start over.
Like it or not, Judge just handed Jones the "get out of jail" card. I'll bet this was a part of the thinking behind the change. Its easier to dump the OC than publicly give up on your #1 draft pick, which if things continued on was going to happen.

The new GM will give him next year to evaluate him. If he doesn't work then the position will be addressed in 2023
He will certainly be here next year. The question is whether he is in a QB competition or simply the QB until his replacement is ready.
- Jones - seems to struggle if his first read is not open (which is often)
- Barkley - seems not sure about what he is supposed to do on a given play, seems to avoid contact in blocking and in running
- Golladay - seems to give inconsistent effort on any given play
These are supposed to be out best players on the team! Couple that with a porous O-Line, invisible TEs, it feels like our entire offense needs to be rebuilt from scratch.
JG should have been fired a long time ago. I don't have blind faith in DJ, but I know he's a better QB than that.

Try 60 yards at half!
IMO, this is more about Judge trying to save his own neck at this point than Jones.
Oh Boy, I can't wait how many new ways we can see the reality of Jones under pressure.

With a new GM and hopefully a draft made to fix both the defense and offense lines. No more early show-pony picks. They have to get a legit edge rusher a coverage LB and at least 3 O-Linemen this offseason. Trade back and stockpile the picks

Jones would play better with a halfway decent OL, but probably not enough to be considered the long term solution for the Giants. Even when he does have time to throw, he frequently still doesn't see the whole field. Some of that might be because he doesn't think his OL can protect him long enough for him to go through his progressions, but it also happens quite a bit when he has a clean pocket.
Jones is next up in the roulette revolver chamber to be thrown under the bus end of the season with Gettleman so Judge can justify "getting his QB".
I'm sure Kitchens will open the offense up a bit more on playcalls and situations (think red zone), but it will be hard to dramatically change the scheme with 7 games left.
One major watching point under Kitchens is he tends to want to play a more open gambling style (not Judge's MO) with vertical passing (not suited to our OL right now) so jury will be watching (no pun intended with Judge).
They better score 28-30 PPG here out or it's bye bye baby.
When the play is designed well and the protection is there Jones is fine, problem is that happens only so often in any offense let alone this mess here.
Jones is a jag. He's done here but might be the backup in 2022 if the contract is doable.

Both posts are exactly what I've been saying. You're a genius, Monty :)
If he continues with the overly safe, keep Jones from making a mistake stuff, that will be very telling in that he had roughly the same opinion of Jones and the OL. If he opens things up then that *may* show that he has more confidence in Jones and thinks the issues were with Garrett.
While I can see a new OC wanting to start over and move on from Jones... what team gives that kind of power to an OC?
HC or GM, sure. But an OC?
Interesting point and correct.
I am certain Judge has a idea where he stands. Mara publicly supported him a couple weeks ago. If that is still the case then I have FK open it up. Let Jones sink or swim and if the turnovers increase you blame DG (who is gone regardless) and hope you are in good enough standing to draft the next QB.
Judge has to earn the right to select the next QB imo. In a draft that does not seem to have many options (2022) you are extending that to 2023. That is pretty strong faith to have in Judge without significant improvement regardless of QB.
What a mess.

Nice kid & hard worker from all accounts. But he's not a starting QB in the NFL.
Either way, as Giants fans, this is what we wanted -- we're going to get our answer about Jones one way or the other.
