Or is he entirely ruined at this point? Neither I or anyone else is likely to ever confuse him with Brady or any other HOF QB during his career, but I just get the impression that beneath all of the crappy play there's a serviceable NFL QB.
He looked better as a rookie and since then has had a cascade of HC's, OC's and QB coaches. Success is more often the result of capitalizing on strengths, than over coming weaknesses. Is there someone who can figure out what he can do, help him do it better, and then let him?
Yes, he makes boneheaded plays. But I think he's been playing scared, to some degree, knowing this (Garrett firing) writing was on the wall.
Hopeful the monkey's off his back and we see an emergence, of sorts. I still think he's the guy.
I recall Eli making many boneheaded plays along the way and he's headed for Canton. No, I'm not saying Jones is, too. Would be ridiculous. But a fresh start, of sorts. Let's see what happens. I think it's going to go better.

I don't know what this team is or him . That was a boneheaded pic last night but I seen plenty of those from very good QB's.

I'm not as down on Jones as GoTerps is, since the average NFL QB play is pretty bad. However, the only way Jones does well with the Giants is if the team has three strong draft years, where the OL (running and pass blocking) and DL (pass rush) are fixed so that Jones replacement won't be destroyed.
I don't think the new GM will want Jones on the team after next year, once our cap situation is better. It's not realistic to think we can get a FA any better than Jones with what cap space we have in 2022, and I'm tired of not fixing the lines...that HAS to be priority #1, ahead of a new QB in the 2022 draft!

JG being gone now puts the spotlight squarely on Jones. Not sure that's taking the monkey off the back
To no fault of his own, he was over-drafted by a group of fools who evaluated him more on his connections and sentimentality than his actual QB skill set.
Jones should have been drafted no earlier than the second round and slowly worked into the mix. He's a guy who needs hundreds of more reps and a lot of development. That's fine - maybe - but we don't have that time.
So his best bet to optimize whatever he might have is to work with another organization. His expiration date is past.
Factor in the poor state of the OL, time and resources needed to try and properly rebuild it, and now you're up against Jones' fifth year option decision. Right now, I see no reason to pick it up. Giants put themselves in a tough spot with all the poor scouting and decisions to try and rebuild and win at the same time.
Resurrected is the wrong word.
He wasn't ruined by the Giants. He never had it.
Now, can Daniel Jones develop the instincts, moxie, timing, and intangibles that make some QBs great? Well I never say never. Maybe he backs up for 5 years and develops great wisdom and reaches a height that few backups reach. Nothing is impossible.
But the Giants need to proceed like it is impossible, because Daniel Jones becoming a great QB is an incredibly low probability event.

This take seems pretty spot on

I disagree slightly here. The NFL (or at least everyone but Patrick Graham) knows you punch Brady in the mouth and his game is thrown off. So if you have a good enough line and a game plan to prevent that then the QB can succeed.
Thank you. The hoops people jump through to defend this guy is ridiculous. He's just not any good.
Alex Smith was "ruined" as well
This is a really good observation. Totally agree with you. Unfortunately in today’s NFL players don’t have as much time to bloom.
