Freddie Kitchens

BigBlueJ : 11/23/2021 3:47 pm
Look I read the splits and get the improvements of the Browns. But he was the Tight Ends coach and had to jump in and call bunch of shit and hit on a run. Who the fuck is he to install something real that would change the direction of an offense. This is me is as big a joke as keeping Jason Garrett in place which was an OC for a decade.
Anyone would call a better game than Garrett
adamg : 11/23/2021 3:48 pm : link
Addition by subtraction. Maybe we can get a real OC next year
I dont remember the game

Not about Freddie.

He spent a lot of time with Arians as a coach and player

so hopefully he acquired some knowledge. Arians has spoken very highly of him in the past. Hope for the best.

If the Giants have scored 3 points by halftime on Sunday, I'm willing to wager that you'll want Kitchens gone too.

They're more happy Garrett is gone and that Kitchens has shown tendencies to call a more aggressive downfield game. The Giants have these plays in their playbook Garrett just called a conservative game 99% of the time.

It's the middle of the season, there aren't going to be major installs happening but if Kitchens can call a better game in the redzone and convert touchdowns that will make a world of difference.

This is my expectation to drive the point home. He is the scapegoat, replacing him does not make Jones more talented or the Oline block better.
Yeah, Garrett’s resume blows Kitchens out of the water.
cosmicj : 11/23/2021 4:00 pm : link
The rational reason to dismiss Garrett is to test a parameter. Many things are wrong with the team. How big people a flaw was the OC performance? It’s a somewhat controlled test.

That’s also why I wanted to see Glennon start a few games after DJ was injured v Dallas. Didn’t come to pass but I think that would have been helpful.
BTW

Adam Schefter
@AdamSchefter
Freddie Kitchens now will take over the Giants’ play-calling responsibilities.

But if it does get worse then further change is inevitable. There are 2 outcomes — it gets better which is good, or it doesn’t. But in that case, that’s another domino towards ultimate change. And at the very least, it’s a lot better to happen now than wait to end of year only to go with Freddie and have it fail then. It’s a million times better to know that FK isn’t the answer now than to take a leap into the unknown with him next season
Yeah...

the offense was horrible last night. I think the Giants need to fire both coordinators, but more so Graham. Graham has been more of a disaster than Garrett. At least Garrett can point to a mediocre quarterback, terrible OL and multiple key injuries. What is Graham's excuse?

They scored 6 points in that game v Cleveland. McCoy was QB. They did have more yards than the week before v Seattle, but it was hardly an offensive onslaught.

I suspect you are correct. I'm not a fan of Garrett, but the problems run deeper than him.

No ER's worth a damn in a game facing the GOAT QB. Graham was merely picking his poison.
All I need to see is
SteelGiant : 11/23/2021 4:36 pm : link
A designed fade/corner route to Golladay in the end zone instead of all curls short of markers.

Designed plays to get our speed players in space.

You just run plays for 2021 not 1991

Stop running designed draw plays for 2 yards with a dancing RB when you know it's not working.

Maybe use presnap motion properly and not have toney getting a fake handoff before the ball is snapped

The list can go on, but I think you get the point. You will still have problems, this will not cure all but at least look like a competent team and maybe not lose due to incompetence.
Garrett was playing scared
larryflower37 : 11/23/2021 4:38 pm : link
Hopefully, Kitchens opens it up as much as possible, I think he is in a situation he has nothing to lose but anyone expecting the offense to score 35 a game will be really disappointed.
I get the dump on Garrett
blueblood'11 : 11/23/2021 5:05 pm : link
But what about the defensive coordinator. This defense is as bad and maybe even worse then the offense has been all year long. Why doesn't he get fired too.
It's all Garrett
PaulN : 11/23/2021 5:15 pm : link
Everything on Garrett, it's not a horrible QB with a bad offensive line. But, there are at least 15 other teams with bad offensive lines. This is not a team just mission g the playoffs, this is a team that is the worst in football since Jones has been QB. It's not all his fault, no, but can you win with Jones, you need a good or very good offensive line with a good run game and good reciever weapons. With all that is he going to score 30-35 points per game, nope, he isn't, so you need a good defense too. How do you pay for all this, simple, you don't. This team needs to move past Jones, he was a huge reach, he is a bust and best to admit it and move forward. This team 7s just trying to justify past moves, and has a fanbase that wants to believe in him so badly that they can not see he just stinks.

graham has no linebackers, a mercurial secondary loaded with overpaid FAs, and a DL that is weaker for having lost homegrown talent in tomlinson and hill. the defense was middle of the pack last year. it is no surprise it is worse this year.

It's the 2/3 deep soft zone system - passive, time consuming, keeps you in the game longer. The WRs are too fast now, so this is the latest scheme to fight the high powered offenses. You either like or you don't - die by the sword or by 1000 cuts.

Others teams are also having issues implementing - PHL is one of them.

How about no competent edge rushers, line backers, corner backs, etc. The defense is doing as much as can be expected given the lack of talent. The big money and draft assets were spent on the offensive side of the ball. What is the offence excuse?

Bradberry
Ryan

I think a lot folks will get what they wished for — lots of trying to take big shots. And I think they’ll see why Garrett thought better of it.
yes, jones is a BUST.......
thrunthrublue : 11/23/2021 11:40 pm : link
just watch him lock onto receivers.......his qb intelligence is no more deceptive than a newborn impala, covered in placenta on the seringetti to these 2021 kill first sequencing opposing d backs.......they read his eyes, and react.......sadly, 8, jones......is not much more than a third string backup, he should be running the practice squad for any other team than the once proud nyg.....and that team wherever it is, should be led by DG....who needs to be fired, with extreme prejudice.

so? a loss is a loss. Let Daniel throw 4 ints and 4 td's at least it will be fun to watch! instead of 15/25 for 190 yds.
Offensive coordinator, play caller. Judge just needs to decide.
Ivan15 : 11/24/2021 8:46 am : link
Some may think it is smart by keeping the opponent guessing until Sunday. That only works until the whistle blows. Judge just can’t make a decision despite all his talk.

Maybe they can have OC by committee. I doubt it and I think someone has been given the responsibility. Stop playing games. Keeping it a secret just shows his indecision.

Regarding play calling. There are only 3 options. Kitchens is the only experienced one. Judge has proven that he is challenged as a HC and doesn’t need another responsibility. If he thought he could do a better job than Garrett, he should have taken over a month ago. Schlupinski would be an out of left field pick. He doesn’t really have any experience and hasn’t done a great job in his current role.
An interesting comment from Judge in Duggan's article
csb : 11/24/2021 9:18 am : link
“What I like about Freddie is Freddie has a very aggressive approach to the game,” Judge said. “I think Freddie’s done a good job in terms of using his players and creating matchups and situations where they can have success, and he calls it with a degree of multiples and variables, which present problems to opponents. He sees it through the lens of the player, if that makes sense, in terms of creating plays for the player. I think that’s a valuable asset.”

I had always assumed that the conservative offensive strategy were coming as much from Judge as they were Garrett due to the weakness of the OL. It will be interesting to see if we start to see a more vertical passing game under Kitchens.
