How Freddie Kitchens Turned Around Cleveland...

bluewave : 11/23/2021 9:08 pm
Thought this was relevant considering the news today!

Baldy breaks it down - ( New Window )
Our interior linemen get eaten up

or occupied along the way or blown up by a LB or safety if they can get 3 out into protection.
It’ll be on Sale+ to make that happen.
And after watching KG and Slayton not hold blocks long enough on screens to Booker turning potential long gains into 8 yard gains, our wides need to block better.
Certainly relevant

Just goes to show how important the play calling is to the success of the offense
Kitchens was so good calling the plays in CLE
adamg : 11/23/2021 11:25 pm : link
They fired him
The Browns were 6-10 under Kitchens
Vanzetti : 11/23/2021 11:27 pm : link
By turning it around, I guess the OP means the previous season when he was promoted to OC after Hue Jackson and Todd Haley were let go. Browns finished 5-3 that year. But so did the Giants last year, so I don't put much stock in what he did in Clev.
Anyone else

Look at the plays Kitchens drew up in Cleveland and already see they are in our playbook?

Seems to me Kitchens already has a good amount of input into our formations. Hopefully he can call a better game then what we have been seeing.

He was in over his head as a first time head coach, but doesn’t mean he doesn’t have some play calling ability

Obviously has a big chance to show something now
Here’s hoping

Many of us have been scream8ng for Freddie to relieve Garrett and now we finally have our wish. I’m not expecting 40 points next week, but I am expecting to see our offense becoming more explosive.

Yes I know….we still have a horrible OL and we still don’t know if Jones is the answer, but at least I feel better today about our offense than I did two days ago .

I doubt he can do/change too much in 6 days prep

There are 3 "lesser" opponents in store, so it will be hard to determine if any change/improvement is due to play calling or just opponent's strength. I assume he cannot add/change the play book at this point - just play/formation calling.

Excellent observation about the lack of blocking by WES. There were at least 2 instances where Golladay did a surely nothing and cost us.

Could Isaiah Wilson be any worse than HERNANDEZ?

What did the Giants see in HERNANDEZ when they drafted him? He is not good at all and when he lets his man come in, that man is now very close to the qb.

Sure thought Hernandez hard warts.. but most on this board loved the pick by Sy was definitely correct on this one
Good grief...

Looking at the "before" with Haley or whatever, most of those pressures sure seemed like they could have been picked up with a QB that could set the protection. One clip had all three interior guys blocking one Steeler, while RT picked up one and Watt went free.
Freddie Kitchens is our savior

You can see some of the plays and sets
larryflower37 : 11/24/2021 11:32 am : link
he used in Cleveland already in the offense.
Kitchens did well in his first season as interim coach but was over his head in year 2.
I am not saying he is the man and we are going to win the next 7 games but a change needed to be made and we will see if has can make a difference.

I dont think anyone here or on the Giants said that either. All we need is an upgrade vs Garrett when it comes to play design and play calling.

with Jughead Freddie Kitchens? Check
Its hopeless

Unless Booker is re-installed at RB nothing will work.

The Giants endlessly try to prove drafting Barkley was not a huge mistake.

Barkley cannot run between the tackles and his pass blocking is non-existent

Barkley will not change- He is the same runner he was at Penn State- needs a huge hole to run through and will or cannot block for the QB. Booker has shown a determination and toughness that has won the Giants games. Look it up. He is not flashy but he is a rock- he moves the chains.
