Mara’s ownership buddies

Fast Eddie : 11/24/2021 12:59 pm
Do you ever have times in your life when nothing seems to be going well? I know I have and ultimately I have a few friends who I trust implicitly for good sound advice. I’m sure Mara has Friends that are very successful nfl owners like the Rooney’s for example.
Is he so prideful that he can’t or won’t toss the Giants way for a successful Steelers or Packers or whoever’s way?
I’m 75 now and running out of years i can be waiting for at least competency from my team.
I’ve already emotionally checked out as I’m sure many of you guys are. My only hope is that Mara will look in the mirror and see that he and his Giants way is the problem and he needs to ask for help from friends who are doing something right. Ugh!
The Steelers operate similar to the Giants

they are just better at it
Mara is doing his best

impersonation of the Steelers and Packers....100% he wants the Giants to be what those teams are.
Needs to do things the REAL Giants way!

Do what his dad did and find a competent, strong GM, then extract he and his family from all operational management of the team.

Technically his dad needed the commissioner to nominate George Young. His dad wanted to promote someone from Jints Central and cousin Timmy wanted Gil Brandt so they were in a bitter stalemate

Mara needs the humility and to put in the sweat to undertake a real GM search
mara forced coughlin to make changes to his staff over the years
japanhead : 11/24/2021 1:27 pm : link
made him fire hufnagel, lewis, sheridan, etc. these moves worked out and the giants won two championships.

i believe this gassed mara's head up, and made him believe he is a real football guy, and, due to arrogance and hubris and spolied rich guy entitlement, he has yet to figure out that he's not.
Kevin Colbert has been the Steelers' GM for 22 years.
Big Blue Blogger : 11/24/2021 1:27 pm : link
Mike Tomlin has been their coach for 15. Before Tomlin, Bill Cowher had a 15-year run. Before Colbert joined in 2000, the Rooneys didn't see the need for a GM.

If he could, that's probably how John Mara would like to run the Giants. He fires people because they keep losing and he has to do something, not because he devalues continuity. Tomlin and Colbert stick around because they win more than they lose.

Of course, there are other things the Steelers and Packers do better than the Giants, but as others have said, they probably have more to do with execution than philosophy.
I think Mara has moved on to the Ravens

They could be the team he's most envious of

Yup! Knew that. But my point stands as made.
There must come a time when John Mara looks at the decisions . . . .

he's made in aggregate, realizes too many of them have sucked, and therefore he's a major part of the problem. Tough to do, but I think he's a tough enough guy to do it.

Plenty of successful clubs where ownership confines itself strictly to the business part of the franchise and is hands-off on all football operations.
Let's not give the Maras any more credit than they deserve...
Chris L. : 11/24/2021 1:43 pm : link
his dad did not hire a strong GM. Pete Rozelle the league commissioner at the time was brought in to settle the battle going on within the Mara family and made the brilliant suggestion of George Young as GM. George Young of course led to Ernie Acorsi. You could argue Pete Rozelle had more to do with the good GM's this franchise has had than the Maras.

Who's doing that? Yes, all he did was eventually accede to Rozelle's recommendation, but he did do it. That's all I'm saying John needs to do.
TC...you and I are on the same page
Chris L. : 11/24/2021 1:57 pm : link
the Mara family needs to get out of the football side of the equation. My point on the Rozelle comment was that the Maras haven't found a competent GM on their own in 60 years. I am not real confident they will make a good choice this time although I hope like hell I'm wrong.

Totally agree. I believe the Mara family is dumb and arrogant. Well was a nice guy but no genius by any stretch.
With those problems it's kind of hard to learn from others.

We need Tisch to start an ownership civil war which will result in Goodell intervening and appointing an outsider as GM.

I’m sure Goodell doesn’t appreciate two terrible franchises in the media capital of the world. If I was Goodell I’d be doing a little ownership arm twisting for the good of the nfl conglomerate

This is actually funny. To continue the logic, Accorsi recommended both Reese and Gettleman and both have failed. So coming full circle, this current debacle is Pete Rozelle's fault.

if you can't see that things went slowly down hill the further and further we got away from George Young than I do not know what to tell you. George Young was great. His hand picked successor Ernie Acorsi was very good. After that George Young's influence is less and the Mara influence is more.

More like what his father was forced to do.

teams to those who are rich from one business and think that makes them competent to make football decisions. It may be true in other sports but I don’t know other sports as well.

Giants have never really learned to break a losing cycle and bad front office decisions. The league won’t save us this time. There are lots of football players out there who could have been Giants, and a fair number of Giants who are not football players.

If Judge gets to play out his contract he will need a real say in the next GM and the personnel people. However do the Giants have confidence that Judgencan do this? I don’t know enough to comment beyond the above.
Just as

The Mara's are as stupid and arrogant as can be imagined, there are fans here on this website that will never admit that this is the case. This organization is on the brink of losing most of its fanbase, and if they refuse to see how fucking stupid they are then fuck them. I am a hair away from saying fuck this franchise. They are a sickening entitled bunch of assholes. I want nothing more then for John Mara to be exposed as the piece of shit he is.
So one of my friends sees Mara every morning at gym

He won’t share any details but he did mention Mara saying that the Eli Day was very uncomfortable.
