Bought a house in University Heights, Ohio, an inner suburb of Cleveland. Will move in the spring (long story). My cousin, who lives nearby, tells me I'm around the corner from Freddie Kitchens' house. Maybe I'll see him around the neighborhood.
As for becoming a homeowner, and moving to Cleveland: What the hell have I done???
Cleveland is nice and I have a ton of family there but I've lived my entire adult life in New York and Los Angeles, except for a few months in Beijing and Shanghai. All big big cities. I better really like living in this house...
Enjoy being a home owner. Clev is actually a more interesting city than people think. Plus, you can drive to so many other cities from there for weekend trips.
New is almost always good. And if you don't like it, you can always sell
Same, we bought a starter home in Saratoga, 1200 square feet. Fine for 1 kid but if we have a second we’ll to move or do an addition. Already looking at the market
Ohio, has tons to offer. When to school by Massillon (“Shawshank Redemption”), beautiful state when the sun permits.
Enjoy.
Enjoy this great holiday with your friends and family.
I’ve never owned an actual house but have owned several co-ops in Manhattan. I’m now in a rented third-story walk-up in the W Village, so I am your classic example of downward mobility (due to divorce). But life is pretty good living in the W Village no matter what kind of place you live, so no complaints.
I did grow up in a house in Yonkers until I went to college, though, and for the past two years my girlfriend and I have been spending the entire winters at my Mom’s bright and spacious winter home in Delray, FL, which I will likely inherit. So since I’m already 67 when I do inherit the house I’ll be an even older dirt-time homeowner than you!!! And I have to admit that after 44 years of being a cave-dweller in the city it’s nice to have more space.
What sort of writing and journalism do you do?
at my age cities like NY, LA, BOS, DC, etc. are much better as visitors.
and i lived in 3 of them and loved it when I did, but like I said at my age....
Enjoy!
Enjoy!
So did David Chappelle (or actually Yellow Springs which is a few hours away from Cleveland, but same point)
Jake Taylor: I play for the Indians.
Chaire Holloway: Here in Cleveland? I didn't know they still had a team!
Jake Taylor: Yup, we've got uniforms and everything, it's really great!

I ALWAYS thought that. I'm 34 and never spent a day wanting to live in a city, especially LA. I have visited a good amount of American major cities, multiple times. Fine but NYC and Philly both within less than 2 hours away and Atlantic City? Prize money.

Enjoy!
Mine's a 4 bedroom Tudor, 2 baths. His is... bigger.

My background is entertainment and business journalism. These days I'm the creative director at my outlet's branded content studio.
The big complication of the move is that my company doesn't have a business presence in Ohio and doesn't want one, so I have to move from "W2" employee to independent contractor. That's scary. Have to negotiate those terms and set up an S corp, etc. But that will mean I'll be able to do freelance reporting again.
