any surprises?
For me it's the Penguins and Islanders, I expect those two to be reversed (at least in the standings).

Anyway, I guess this gives some unique definition to Panarin "dropping the gloves" with Marchand.
Rasputin, was curious as to your focus on Oilers, went to your bio, don't think I'd ever looked before--cool info. Because of your 'Montreal raised' and your 'lawyer for the stars' (borrowing liberally lol), you might get a kick out of Netflix's 'Call My Agent' ('10 Pour Cent'), light, goofy, stuff with French film starts playing themselves in episodes that build their plots around them. Takes a few episodes to warm to.

Also, I viewed this the opposite way from some of you, not Panarin getting under Marchand's skin, but the opposite, Marchand getting under Panarin's skin. I expect Marchand to behave this way. No one expects Panarin to.

To the extent your first para was directed to me, you'll note I said the 'game' got under Marchand's skin, not Panarin. If Boston's winning, he doesn't have to whine. Btw, pj, are you actually living in Beantown now, as opposed to an hour or so away roughly Worcester?
I live in between Worcester and Boston, almost exactly halfway between them. When I moved up here I lived in Newton, a Boston suburb where BC is, once we were going to expand our family we moved out to the more affordable suburbs.

Kris Russell should wear a ‘C’ on his chest — not for “Courage,” but for “Captain” as he gets set to become the all-time NHL leader in shots blocked Saturday night in Vegas.
I wonder what is going on behind the scenes. I liked Mellanby (as a player), but who really knows what exactly an assistant GM does.
I can't believe Bergevin lasts too much longer.
reports say locker room is split behind either Bo Horvat or JT Miller.
USA is defending champs.

Probably not for GM, maybe for a president role I'd guess.
some beat writers have said when Bergevin is replaced they will hire a francophone GM (of course they will).
and that's not Gorton who is an American.
I wonder if Scott is hearing anything.

Hearing that Scott Mellanby had extensive talks with Habs owner Geoff Molson at first about becoming GM, then that changed to perhaps becoming president of hockey operations. But he was told yesterday he was out of the running. So he resigned today.
Some rumors about Patrick Roy in the GM role. I feel like that would be a disaster, and only being mentioned because he's a Franco.
- Panarin should have been fined $10,000: the $5,000 max for his misconduct throwing his glove at Rat (and props to pj for the 'dropping the gloves' comment); and a 2nd $5,000 for butt ugly style points in his throwing motion, looking like when many of us were kids and girls didn't play/weren't coached in sports thus to say, eww, he throws like a girl.
I don't think he'd go ahead of Lafreniere in a redraft or anything like that (yet), but man he can put the puck in the net.
if anyone from that draft moves I think its Byfield, injuries have stunted his development (which was probably going to take longer anyway given his size)

#GoSensGo Brady Tkachuk on getting bit by #GoKingsGo Brendan Lemieux:
“It's outrageous. Kids don't even do that anymore. He's a complete brick head. He's got nothing up there.”

Yeah he has been great
Him and Mercer are probably 1-2 in the Calder race right now. In a re-draft Mercer definitely goes top 10.

Breaking News: The #SJSharks will be placing Evander Kane on waivers today for the purpose of sending him to the AHL.
“If” he clears that is, someone may take a chance on him.
absolutely does, we talked about it in the other NHL thread.
if he stays healthy he will absolutely break it IMO.
Plus, given the changes to the game, scoring at this pace like Ovi is doing in these conditions makes him a better scorer than Gretzky regardless.
I mentioned this before (I think), I gave him a 30-40% chance of hitting it five years ago. Would give him 65-70% chance now.
He's still 147 back of the even strength number. Maybe a 20-25% chance of hitting that?
Assistant GM Trevor Timmins and Paul Wilson, senior vice-president of communications, have also been let go.
Big moves in Montreal.

Evander Kane on waivers as mentioned, and he's reportedly now really vaccinated.

The Senators won a single game in the month of November. They just waived their $25-million dollar goalie. And they’re in last place overall.
I think it’s time we started getting answers from upper management about the direction of this franchise.

NHL postpones #Isles games through Nov. 30, meaning their game against the #NYR tomorrow is off.
Ugh.
Not to turn this into an NYR thread, but Kinkaid deserves the call-up. I wouldn't trade for anyone yet.
I also think NYR twitter is totally overreacting to the Marchand stuff.
not sure how I missed this. and I know I'm biased because I think he was going through some stuff, but Kinkaid is the absolute worst goalie I have seen in an NHL uniform.
He backed up Price in 2019 and he was so bad he was sent to the AHL but he was even worse in the AHL so he was loaned to the Hurricanes AHL team, just to get him out of Laval. I think he may have even been sent to the ECHL (at 29 years old).
NYR need a backup goalie, they have all the makings of a contender and right now they are too reliant on Igor, I'd be aggressive in making a trade for a legit backup option that could carry the team (for small stretches) in case Igor has a short-term injury and IMO that guy is Jake Allen way more than Keith Kinkaid. I do know I wouldn't want to give Kinkaid a shot and then find out he's not the guy, who knows when that will be and what goalie options will be available.
I feel like I can conclude it's not Georgiev.
Georgiev is just awful. I'd rather try something different.
Allen would be a nice get.
Lemieux expected to retain some ownership percent - not sure if it's just ceremonial or meaningful.

Based on what I've been told, Daniel Briere is very high up on the list of candidates being considered for GM of the Canadiens.
SJS would eat as much as half his $$$.
I wonder which team. NYR trying to get more grit?

If they eat half and require next to nothing in return, I'd 100% do it.

same. And to be fair Kane is more than grit, he's the closest thing to Tom Wilson outside of Tom Wilson. Kane is a 50-point player and legit option on any line and can play specials (if he's healthy and in shape).
No idea how his team is competitive.

Patrick Roy's name keeps coming up to be involved in some manner. Be it GM or coach.
As a Canes fan I am fine with that. I don't think he will do well in either with the way things are done here in MTL. He hated the press here when he was a player I can only imagine the way he handles them as a GM or coach.

I read that just thought it was conjecture due to relationship and his fluency/nationality but then I read as of this weekend no one had (as of then) reached out to Roy.
As a habs fan and one who has met Roy (in the late 80's when he was still a god in MTL) for sentimental and fan reasons if they go that way I hope it works out, but he is not someone who would be on my short list.

That's a slew foot? I watched the replay 10x and have yet to see where their skates met.
Looks like Marchand just muscled him down.

In fairness I didn't see it. I just wasn't surprised by the headline. I suspect if it's not a slew foot player safety will not fine him.

I think a it's slew foot and slew foot doesn't have to be skate to skate, it just means you use your foot or leg as leverage against a player (usually not facing you) to lift them off their skates. it did start as when players would come up behind someone and kick their skates out, but the definition is much broader now. This video linked below is pretty damning. the VAN announcers commentary should be taken with a grain of salt but the slo-mo replay seems pretty damning to me.
