My minor gripe about a modern rule

dlauster : 11/26/2021 4:44 pm
I’m sure like many of you today I’m watching the Cincinnati game and find myself inspired to start a thread based on the touchdown just scored.

Hell of a play, but it showcases a problem I find with the modern game. It seems that both the NFL and NCAA are going to have to do something about the offensive face mask….or as they call it, the stiff arm to the helmet. It’s getting out of hand.

Not only is it ridiculously unfair to a defender, but at some point someone is going to get badly hurt.

At some point someone gets hurt?

Football has been around for 120+ years. In what instance has a stiff arm to the face mask resulted in injury?
Perhaps I was unclear

My issue is with the increasing grab and hold of the defender’s mask, which is not being called a penalty on the offensive runner or receiver. I’m seeing it a lot recently.
I agree

A lot of stiff arms look like penalties that would be called on a defensive player.
