James Bradberry's future

frankmihs : 11/27/2021 2:04 pm
He has roughly a 22 million cap hit next year. He has not played near the level of last year and is on his last year of the contract. The way I see it there's three options.

1-you can cut him and save about 12 million with 9 million dead money.

2-you can extend or restructure and lower this year's cap hit

3+ you can let him play out his last year

What do you think is the best option, a lot depends on how Aaron Robinson does and what the coaching staff thinks about him. I know they drafted him because they loved his ability to play Man coverage.
He’s still a decent player

I think you keep him and let him play out his contract. You won’t find a better corner with the 12 million you are saving.

Bradberry has closer to 13.4M in new money owed to him next year.

It’s a major decision for the Giants.

Good topic...

I would try to trade JB or release him.

He's getting to that point where corners start hitting diminishing returns...
No 3 is not an option

As I look at overall cap situation. Only 42 players under contract, and nowhere near the cap space needed to sign your draft class, let alone shop for FAs and have some reserve to sign injury replacements during the season. Bradbury’s contract is clearly one of the primary resources to generate cap flexibility. He MUST be restructured or cut.
28 years old. Pro bowl last year

He’s having a down season, compared to last year but is still a good player. Id keep him. Extend for a year or 2 if reasonable

The cap is fluid. They might be up against it next year on paper, but they don’t have much commitment beyond that. Plus it’s gonna pop.

Love to see Robinson do well but he has missed most of the year already.

You can’t get rid of good players and expect to get better
He’s one of the few big contracts that can be cut

…and have some big cap savings. Martinez also. I think both are gone.
I don’t get it

We have seen the defense without Blake. Not great.

I don’t think the cap is as dire as people think. I guess we will see. But it’s not even determined yet for next year. I don’t think we can spend next year but I don’t think we need to cut good players
we all saw what making up for draft botches by overpaying

big-name FAs did to this team in 2016-17. so what do the giants do? continue to whiff horribly in the draft and overspend on big-name FAs whose own teams don't want to re-sign them.

it's almost like the problems are bigger than any single bad actor/scapegoat (gettleman, chris petit, chris mara, etc)
Yes, he seems to be having a down year compared to 2020, but
Giants61 : 11/27/2021 3:40 pm : link
so is just about everyone else on defense. He is still in the top two on the defense. You need players of his caliber. Find the cap savings somewhere else
I'd rather

the resources go towards the front 7. The team has spent SIGNIFICANT cap dollars and draft picks on the secondary without much to show for it.

The Giants will need to make room to operate next year — and Bradberry is one player to do target.

I also think Ryan and Shepard are players at risk of being cut.

The Giants have a lot of starters who are free agents — including 4/5 of starting offensive line.

The Giants got very cute the last few years to sign the players they have. Their is a lot of bonus money parked against next year’s cap.

But where? The Williams, Jackson and Golladay contracts are absolute cap crushers in 2022. And no one else gives much, if any, cap relief if cut.
you can't just say cut him without having

a plan on how to obtain another #1 corner.

Jackson is not that guy, Ryan is not that guy and the younger cb's on the roster now are not that guy.

Do you really want to make CB a need in the draft where we now choose a corner over another top offensive lineman?

Also I dont think Bradberry is having a down year I just dont think he's good at maintaining coverage for over 30 seconds straight every play. but that's just me

My solution: Draft a pass rusher and make Bradberry great again #MBGA
We're going to keep him
Jerry in_DC : 11/27/2021 4:38 pm : link
and push his money out further. The only way we don't is if we recognize that we need a massive, multi year rebuild and we start taking cap pain immediately.

But I don't see that happening. Will be another hard push to try to squeeze out 7 wins.
Giants need a heavy defense draft
Lines of Scrimmage : 11/27/2021 5:16 pm : link
and corner should be in play.
we act like he's curtis deloatch out there
Platos : 11/27/2021 5:42 pm : link
everyone calm down. we get it. everything gettleman does is bad. bradberry's bad. martinez sucks, leonard stinks, golladay is over paid. blah blah blah

Where exactly did anyone say anything close to this?
they should try to trade him
GiantsFan84 : 11/27/2021 6:12 pm : link
look the giants are bad now and they will be bad next year

they have no QB. they have no OL. their talent on offense is consistently hurt (don't forget one of the knocks on toney was that he couldn't stay healthy in college).

this team should be looking to rebuild. trade saquon. trade bradberry if there is a taker. trade martinez if someone wants him. same with logan ryan. terps has said the following many times: the guys on this team now will not be on this team when its contending. get what you can and build through the draft.

the problem is if they bring judge back, he will be on a short leash so what the team should do won't be the same time table of the coach. and here we are in the same cylce over and over again.

the team will restructure whoever they can to compete next year
