Riley Dixon.

Man...this guy sucks. We need to upgrade this offseason.
There is zero chance he's on the team next year
arniefez : 11/28/2021 5:13 pm : link
unless he takes a massive pay cut. It will cost 125K to cut him and save 3 million. I agree the Giants should be able to upgrade from him and save money too.
Yes

He needs to go. You could find a better punter at an open try out.

He should not be on the team even if he works for free. The guy costs us too much. He is a liability.
Dixon’s $3 Million
Samiam : 11/28/2021 5:17 pm : link
I know it’s only a punter and only $3 million which pales against some of the huge dollar contract mistakes. But, what the hell was in Gettleman’s mind when he gave Dixon this contract? Was he afraid Dixon woulld sign elsewhere?
I’m all for finding someone on the waiver wire

He sucks…
Nobody
GruningsOnTheHill : 11/28/2021 5:42 pm : link
will be mistaking this guy for Dave Jennings.

There really isn't anybody else on a practice squad who can average more than 35 yds per punt?
Matt Araiza
Archer : 11/28/2021 5:44 pm : link
Giants should drat SDSU Punter / Kicker Matt Araiza
His shanks are netter than Dixon's best punts.

He has punted the ball in excess of 80 yards many times and when within his own 30 , he avaerages over 60 yards per punt with great hang time.

He flips the field on every punt.

I think the bigger issue was lack of missed FG/XP due to bad holds. Even when the snap isn’t perfect, Dixon gets it down properly.

Araiza looks awesome, but this team needs a lot more than an elite punter.

But to the OP, Dixon has been brutal for going on 2 years now.
Agreed. Terrible punter.
Dave in Hoboken : 11/28/2021 5:54 pm : link
I mean, Judge was a Special Teams guy before coming here. He can't find a better punter than this guy? As a ST guy, Judge can't see in training camp or pre-season or whatever that this guy isn't good enough? Come on.
He used to be pretty darn good
JohnG in Albany : 11/28/2021 6:04 pm : link
Now he seems to have created the, "Unbelievably crappy, but not shanked, punt".

Patent pending.
In terms of unimpressive Giants at their respective jobs
Jimmy Googs : 11/28/2021 6:29 pm : link
he easily makes the top 10 list...

Araiza will probably get drafted in the 2nd RD. He's that good. But the Giants would never draft a punter that high.

Then again, the way their offense plays, having a punter who can boom it 80 yards would be an incredible asset.

👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏
Don't forget the GM or someone in the Giants front office
arniefez : 11/28/2021 8:16 pm : link
gave up a (7th round?) draft pick for the privilege of giving him that contract. That's probably why he's still on the team
Uhhh

He is only a Junior, so there is a chance he won't come out this year anyway
just a note...
BillKo : 11/28/2021 10:45 pm : link
...would it have been better to take a safety on that last punt?

Make it 13-9 and have Dix punt freely from the 20, which he basically punted from anyway...without pressure.
There is no question that Dixon sucks
Matt M. : 11/29/2021 11:42 am : link
and needs to go. But, the contract extension didn't come out of nowhere. He had a very good first season for us after we traded for him. He just hasn't lived up to it since. He went from a weapon his first year, pinning a lot of punts inside the 20 to mediocre to now being a liability.
