Every thread seems to turn into a talk about Jones, but here are some non-Jones thoughts I left today's game with.
1. If I can extend Love or pay Peppers, I think I let Peppers go. I like him but probably not at the money he is going to want. Love is a younger version of Logan Ryan. Can play corner or safety and plays very smart.
2. If Garrett was calling this game the Giants lose 7 to 6. One difference that I liked about Kitchens is that we were at least throwing the ball in the endzone. I don't think we score a TD today with Garett calling the plays.
3. Barkley is not back to being himself yet. Say what you will about him, but his rookie year he was a threat to score every time he touched the ball. Teams have figured out that you need to get him down before he gets going. His long run today definitely had a burst and I did like how they were utilizing him a little more today. One of his biggest impacts on the game could be as a decoy. I really want to see play action to him, lbs crash him and through behind them on a crossing route to Toney.
4. I didn't realize it, but I have PTSD from the Deshawn Jackson punt return. I was expected the punt at the end of the game to be returned for a touchdown--I could almost envision it. Thank goodness Dixon sucks and kicked a not a returnable ball.
5. I think our defense jumps to a whole other level if we add a dynamic pass rusher--12 plus sacks guy a year. I do like the pressure Williams gets up the middle and think Ojualari is going to keep getting better. I think he makes a great second. Roche may be even be a find and could be a great rotational player. He looks good out there. I would like to see what we have in Smith as well. Even if we add one of the top DE's in the drat, I would like us to add another one. I would like to see us draft 2 online and 2 edge high in the draft.
I said today to my buddy that I hope they keep love. Heady player. He is developing a real nice punch to force fumbles.
Other thing I liked with Kitchens today was putting barkley out wide a few times. nothing came of it, but hopefully it will. Overall the screens and draws seemed better too. they still need to work out the timing, but it was better.
I like aziz and roche too. 2 guys i was hoping the giants would draft (way earlier then we did aziz at 15 and QR in the 4th) If we got one stud it would set this D off. esp with blake back
The defense could be really good. just need one alpha, bad MF

I know the whole Best player available mantra, but we really need to take the best Pass rusher--if that is an edge or a lb and the best online in the first round. If we are up and the best player is a safety or Tight End then then trade down a few spots. We have to draft oline and pass rushers. Also through in one of those college punters booting it 70 plus yards--I would be fine with a punter from the 4th round on. Maybe even the 3rd.
Dixon was ok his first year but he has gotten worse every year. That's a legit cut to save money.
I'm with you on edge. I hope to god we get one of those studs. I like the Michegan kid
Kind of a mantra to ward off "bad things".
Unfortunately Ryan is $11+ million against the cap next year, with no cap savings if he's cut. So almost surely he'll be one of the safeties.
As for Barkley, nice to see the 30 yard run in space but to be honest, you can tell he has lost a step. In his rookie season, he cuts that corner and takes it up field for at least another 10-15 yards if not to the house. Instead, he is driven out of bounds.
True, but weird time to say this, as I did not see him miss a blitz pick up yesterday or at least I do not recall him giving up a sack.
I'd split Barkley out more too. but really, if it were me he wouldn't be on the field until he dedicates himself to learning how to block. time for him to show that he's a professional.
He certainly deserved a contract similar to Budda Baker, last year I would have said slightly better, but after injury it might be slightly less...fair or not.
We (fans) should be able to decided that he isn't worth 12-15m / yr to us without putting the player down. It is a legit debate to ask if a cheaper Love is better for the team than what Peppers brings at his price tag. But lets not insult the man in doing so.

I like Peppers, but I think Love is the better player. With the cap situation, they probably cannot sign Peppers.
Speaking of pass rushers, if I never see Lorenzo Carter again I have no problems with that. Horrible setting the edge and doesn’t do enough rushing the passer to compensate. I have seen more out of Quincy Roche than I have seen from Carter.
Athletically, he's not a freak like many players, which is probably why he was converted to FS out of college to begin with.
Both he and McKinney have very good instincts.
i liked the shots into the endzone to Golladay
I think as the weeks go on we are going to see more points scored
Too often, we asked him to cover guys who he simply should not be covering. In the Rams game, Graham had him chasing Cooker Kupp around. Fucking ridiculous because our best corners would have trouble with that too.
We can find a safety who excels at covering but may not be as solid of a tackler that Peppers is. It all comes down to being smart about what you are asking your players to do.
Peppers does have value playing close to the line of scrimmage in run support, blitzing (if we decide to blitz.. ever), put returns, leadership, etc.
So, for the right price we should look to keep him. Every team needs quality depth even if the decision is to start Love next year.
One.
One.
I would agree with that. It just seemed like every time we got into the Rrd Zone with Garett, we would never throw it in the end zone. I do not know what we have with Kitchens but we do have some addition by subtraction.

Not elite, but a good solid player, team player, and final piece type player.

I like Love for what he is. A converted corner playing Free Safety. He is not a plus run support player, so not a fit for Strong Safety, and neither is McKinney. So who plays SS next year with that personnel? How many yards did the Eages rush for again?
