As we all lament the missteps in the front office and the hopeful departure of DG, my hockey team the Montreal Canadiens clean swept the front office. Mellanby the assistant GM resigned Saturday, and yesterday the GM, head of scouting and his assistants were all relieved of their duty. This comes 4 months after a Stanley cup final and in face of a losing season presently. It is a bold move but necessary and not unlike what must occur with our Giants. As they perused the potential replacements last evening, comments about the downright misses in drafting by Bergevin and his assistants was downright frustrating to listen to. Reminds me so much of all our misses in our recent drafts. New voices and new blood were required.
There are differences for sure in the make up of a hockey franchise when compared to a football team, but the fact remains that a new vision is required. Both franchises are stale and one for now has taken the bold step in an attempt to improve its team. Let us hope for a clear vision from our cadres with a similar outlook for the future. BTW Jeff Gorton formerly of the Rangers is the new executive director of hockey operations.
Allow the Government dictate who you can put in what management position?
Seems to have worked well for the Habs the last 30 years, so why not?

Gorton is American, how did he get through the media and government?
MBs been in the fans crosshairs for awhile, although I suppose that SCF appearance eased that a bit.
While it hurt to see you guys in the SCF last year, it was amusing that the run all started after firing CJ. Now don't get me wrong, as he helped bring the SC to Boston in 2011, but the game certainly seemed to have passed him by in his last couple of years here, and firing him very much needed to happen.
That said, it really needed to happen on the team's time table, not his. He needs to be completely removed from the organization already, so his retirement better begin the day after the season ends. My biggest fear is they just promote Abrams, even if on an interim basis. I think they have rotted from the top down and thus need to completely clean house. This would include Abrams, unless he is retained for only cap purposes, and should also include a good portion of the scouts and personnel departments. Look no further than OL. We have swung and missed so many times, not just in the draft, but FA as well. This is with a lot of the same guys on hand for years. This tells me our front office has no ability to judge either college or NFL OL. The same can be said for LB. We need a completely fresh start.

They put him in an upper level position (executive vice president of hockey operations). That does not have to deal with the press. Government deals with the owner (Molson) and the press deals with the GM and head coach.
Molson has already said that the new GM that Gorton will choose must be fully bi-lingual in French.
Still like Judge as head coach and until the offensive line is fixed there is no point in drafting skill players for the offense.
