Cole and Scherzer will be about thwe same age when each of their contracts expire. So all good for the Yankees spending $324 Million over nine years and not so good for the Mets spending $130 Million over three years??
It's a risk at his age for sure, but one that comes with big reward if it works out. There's a pathway to contention now - will require health for Max and JDG + better hitting. I like this a lot better than ~$25 M for a 2nd/3rd starter type.

Manaea, is projected to earn $10.3 million and is 3rd-Year Arb Eligible and will not be a free agent until 2023. He would be perfect for the Mets. A left handed power pitcher. He is a 2-3 starter on a good team.
Chris Bassitt is (32) is projected to make $8.8 million
on several levels. Aside from being a top 10 MLB pitcher Scherzer is one of the most respected players in MLB by his peers. Best of health to him and deGrom in 2022. Nice to see Cohen use his $ advantage to shake things up.

great posts - there were some classy posts from other teams. There is one dude on this site that certainly has some anger or inferiority issues. To troll Mets fans on a NY Giants site with such vitriol means that person must have some shortcomings outside this forum. Like moespree mentioned, these fans likely weren't around to remember the late 80s where both teams were legitimate. Nobody wins the WS in the offseason but the Mets are a much better team and 180-degrees different from where they were when Noah took the LA deal. Mets fans should be excited - we've been waiting for a move like Scherzer since Cohen took over.

Of course, you're completely ignoring the fact that a lot of pitchers had arm issues at the end of the year, given they threw so few innings in 2020 and then ramped up to so many in 2021.
And even with that, his playoff numbers: 2.2 ERA, 1.1 WHIP and 23K's in 16.2 innings, including a game vs SFG where he threw 8 innings, giving up 1 run on 3 hits.

The Mets on the other hand gave $130 Million to a 37 year old for three years. Both Cole and Scherzer will be of similar age when their respective contracts expire. In fact, the Mets will be past Scherzer after the 2024 season, while the Yankees will still have Cole until 2028 season ends.
And, Scherzer was the better pitcher last year.

Sadness is going into a thread of another team to be a wet blanket. Especially when you try to make fun of the fans for not having won in 35 years when 'his team' (one he does nothing for) hasn't won in a while either

great posts - there were some classy posts from other teams. There is one dude on this site that certainly has some anger or inferiority issues. To troll Mets fans on a NY Giants site with such vitriol means that person must have some shortcomings outside this forum. Like moespree mentioned, these fans likely weren't around to remember the late 80s where both teams were legitimate. They only know Yankee dominance and now Cohen is trying to change the culture and it annoys some.
Being a fan of the Yankees or the Mets doesn't add inches to the ol' pishadeel.
When you think of it, these ballplayers are getting staggering amounts of money. Some of these guys are going to have great grandchildren sitting on their yachts talking about how great grandad played for the Dodgers, left the family a pile of money and no one in the family has had to work since.
I'm fine with Javy to Detroit; it feels wrong to trade McNeil when his value is at it's lowest and think he should be in-line for a bounceback year. Now we just need a mid-rotation inning eater and a lefty out of the pen and this offseason would be a huge success. Nobody wins the WS in the offseason but the Mets are a much better team and 180-degrees different from where they were when Noah took the LA deal. Mets fans should be excited - we've been waiting for a move like Scherzer since Cohen took over.
