A couple of questions about the "offense?"

Andy340350 : 11/29/2021 5:55 pm
Can someone explain the concept behind repeated swing passes to Barkley in the flat with no blockers in front of him when the Eagles (and every other defense) have shown they have someone keying on him and therefor in his face as soon as he catches the ball? Is the idea that it is on him to make a defender who has him dead to rights miss? How do other teams get their backs actually open?

Is this true? Saquon had 13 carries and 4 catches for a total of 53 yards. He had one run for 32 and another for 7. The other 15 touches got us 14 yards?

And do I have this right? The Giants ran 58 plays yesterday. They had 11 incomplete passes and 1 sack. Philly's defensive stats show they had 7 TFLs. So that means 19 out of 58 plays, just short of one third, resulted in 0 or negative yards. Where does the Giants offense rank in TFLs for the season?
Who else noticed this? Let’s all get excited about something only Andy

Saw.
I'll take a stab

Swing pass and screen pass are 2 different things.

A screen should have a set up wall of blockers.

The swing pass, I believe is an outlet or checkdown. QB looks downfield, rec. covered, or otherwise does not like the throw, dumps off to RB "safety valve"

In that case the idea is to get a cpl yards from a play that wasn't working downfield. Sometimes the back (or TE) can make a guy miss and get a decent gain.
I guess the Eagle defense

isn't that good - so that the fact that they kept blowing up the Giants Offensive line was a non factor in this game
The Barkley Touch theory
averagejoe : 11/29/2021 6:35 pm : link
is that if he gets 20 touches a game he will turn ordinary gains into long TD runs. That is the theory. What actually happens is he gets stuffed most of the game and then trips over his own feet in space and falls down. Sigh......
I guess I asked for it

Yes, I know the difference between a screen pass and a swing pass. How is that I see other teams' QBs check down to a back in the flat with no Giants near them? And sorry, but the numbers on the 0 and negative yardage plays just struck me as a little more reinforcement on what we all saw.

Anyone know where to find the TFL rankings?

Why were all the runs right up the gut when they have no gut to run behind?

Insanity: doing the same thing over and over again, expecting different results.

Unless they're saving some magic running play for when they "really" need it.

So this is a guess also, but... I think with other teams the time before going to checkdown is longer. The line holds up longer, QB goes through reads, the field gets stretched and defenders spread out in coverage. The RB has more time to be forgotten, and so when we get to the checkdown there is more space created by time and route concepts.

So with the giants, alot of routes are short and breaking in out or back, so defenders are still bunched up within 10 yds of the LOS. Then pressure, whether perceived or real has the QB throwing the checkdown quickly if rec. or not open immediately (or in fairness the QB can't find the open guy or anticipate an open guy).

And then right wrong or indifferent, Barkely still has some Cache as a weapon that has to be accounted for. Where as aif it's Penny the defender might not stay on the assignment of covering him as urgently.

Sadly, we don't run off tackle, or on the edge particularly well either. You have to run the ball. or at least keep trying. They have some success running up the middle with booker, when they run Duo- essentially all double teams to generate push and then theoretically one of the linemen climbing to the 2nd level when they get some push going. The big barklet run was duo (i think) agin it is not consistent success tho
To answer the OP's question,

I believe that, yes, a good RB is expected to make the first potential tackler miss.

The dancing queen is dancing 5 yards behind the line of scrimmage instead of running hard through the line. He just isn’t very good. Giants pretty much end up 2nd and long every series because of him. Think they are on the hook for 8 million for him next year, which they can only get out of with a trade.

Thats funny

My Dancing Queen Nomer is catching on LOL

I understand the showcasing him narrative BUT how about giving Booker and Penny equal time and see who wins

As I stated yesterday, letting Wayne (4.6 YPC) Gallman walk before finding out if Barkley had an ounce left in his tank was criminal
