Doesn't matter and isn't even close to the point. Can he improve and does he even have the potential to COMPETE for a job next year. Get him out there and find out. I don't care if he fails. Solder is failing every week, any improvement is gravy and if it's a wash you win by gaining information.
And those reasons are obvious and hardly a mystery. They think Solder is the better player at RT. They're also incredibly short-sighted reasons and completely ignorant of the big picture.
I'm not even contending that Peart is the better player, which isn't baseless speculation considering his 3 starts this year at LT where he wasn't anymore a liability than Solder has been at RT.
Peart is fucking up in practice and lacks intensity. In other words, Peart is on par or worse than Solder this year. You don't gain anything by starting him, in fact we risk losing a guy who can play both tackle positions.
Glad I'm not the only one because it makes 0 sense to me...
If Thomas gets hurt, why would you not just play Peart at LT and Solder at RT? Your starting RT can be the swing piece...the Ravens did it with Brown when Stanley went down last year. But instead, they are claiming that the Giants are prioritizing having the better player at a backup position over a starting position.
They don't want to play Solder at LT, and wouldn't want to move Peart from playing full-time RT to switching to LT in the event that Andrew Thomas gets hurt again and misses time.
And that Peart hasn't earned the trust of his coaches yet to start, so they're willing to go with the veteran in Solder and live with his poor performance for now. OK.
This team really needs to get a real RT, and if that's not Peart, so be it, but this needs to be a high priority.
So they are basically saying the best way to train a guy at both positions is to have him sit the bench and not play either position at all...Gosh I hope this is just a horrible take by the podcast hosts and not how our coaching staff truly sees it.

I could buy this, except Judge himself was touting a "rotation" of offensive linemen.
So now we're not rotating. Ok. Seems a bit suspicious.

You can't believe a damn thing that the organization says. All that you can go by is what they do.
1) His source has to be O'Hara, right? Former OL, covers the sport, and close to the team.
2) At first, it wasn't clear how much of that was the source "speaking." I thought Tynes was the one saying he wouldn't let Solder watch his kids, but it was the source.
3) I can accept the comments about practice. But, the swing tackle crap, is just that...crap. That has to be bullshit.
They could be wrong, for sure. but they have reasons for what they are doing.

2) There's some other stuff going on - bad habits, doesn't practice hard, bad attitude, etc.
There's nothing else that makes sense. I'd lean towards #2, because you'd have to be really stupid / insecure to play Solder based on anything else.
It's on Peart.

But then go dumpster diving for guys on the scrap heap at the end of training camp.
This quote from Tynes also makes zero sense at all.
Man, that's so damning of Gettleman.
