Danny may have cut down the turnovers but where at the TDs?

MtDizzle : 12/1/2021 9:51 am
He’s ranked 20th in yard and 25th in touch downs with very pedestrian numbers. I understand the Garrettt and line narratives but I see QBs putting up better numbers with similar excuses they could very easily use. Giant fans deserve better.

Wahhhhhhhhh. If you can’t take the heat, stay out of the kitchen. I’m just as passionate a fan as anyone here. I’m sick of my team being a laughingstock and looking for moral victories. We’re the New York football fucking Giants. Time to start acting like it.

You’re a clown.

its bitch move to come on a thread he started and contribute nothing other than crying about "taking political shots at eric." if it's the "same song and dance every day" why open the thread and post on it? just to whine about the poster?

There is no new information in these Blogs about Jones

These blogs are rehashing people's opinions over and over again, ad infinitum

The worst aspect of these discussions is that there are posters who who will post the same issue and call it something else.

The only thing that I will add is that you cannot discuss the QB position in a vacuum
This is about team building and how the Giants use their resourses

Go watch tape of him in 19 and how often he threw the ball to the end zone. Under Garrett, they had very few plays where they would throw in the end zone. It was a scheme relying on guys to make plays to get in the end zone

This offense seems OK with settling for FGs and that comes from the head coach. I think the offense becomes way to passive in the red zone

I must say that I would rather have a QB throwing 2-3 TDs per game with 1-2 turnovers, than 1-2 TDs per game and 0-1 turnovers. Not all turnovers turn into TDs for the opposition. Jones was a better QB in 2019 because the offense was better.

jones has come nowhere near approaching these numbers under the current staff.

moreover, jones's supposed mobility was touted as the reason he would necessarily be an improvement because QBs in the modern era cannot expect perfect OL play, need to be able to improvise, throw on the move, use their legs to keep drives alive, and make plays from a 'dirty pocket'.

now the OL, which is no worse than what eli had in 2017-18, and which was arguably better last year than anything eli had in 17 or 18, is held up as evidence as to why jones is failing miserably at quarterback and is unable to throw touchdowns.

the hypocrisy is laughable.

You left out one key fact. Barkley had 2000 all purpose yards that year.
He had 1300 rushing yards. We have no running game. Not a fair comparison but nice try.
If you want to know why we can’t throw in the red zone
BillT : 12/1/2021 2:28 pm : link
It’s because we can’t run in the red zone. And if you can’t do either you can’t score. You hear this all the time from football guys on broadcasts, podcasts and elsewhere. Successful red zone offenses can run the ball in the red zone. That keeps the defenses from filling the end zone with defenders. Remember Eli beating the Cowboys in his rookie year. They showed pass, he called run, TD! Giants win. When was the last time you saw this team run successfully in the red zone.
Forget about Wilson

This team is in no position to receive him with the roster as is, and how many of their precious premium draft picks would have to be exchanged for RW. Does not compute right now.

This is exactly why we have to stick with Jones next season. I dont see a better option in the draft right now so keep him, get 2 quality game changer players and see what we have.

On O, I thought our WR corps was going to be good. Its not even average with the group we've been sending out there. Our OL is dreadful, we may need 4 starters to come in next season. On D we have no pass rushers. We need impact players all over not just QB. I believe that you can win with DJ if you have some talent around him. A rookie QB or a FA is just going to be more of the same sub par play.

In the draft we have an opportunity to get 2 impact players and a good starter in the 2nd round. That could turn this team around. If we trade the picks for a QB we are giving that QB nothing to work with. Forcing a pick at QB will just set us back 4 more years.

but I'm guessing the TDs are in the same place as the OL that we don't have

That excuse is tiring. There’s bad OLs all over the league.

The OL has been very bad for years. Remind me, how well did Eli do behind it? How well did Eli do behind a very effective OL? Its the OL until it is not.

Well, Eli's last game, he threw for 283 yards,2 td passes, 10 yards an attempt, the Giants scored 5 td's - in a 25-30 mph wind in NJ in December. His receivers were Shepard, Tate and Kaden Smith.

Probably good bet that his franchise records will remain safe from Danny Dimes.

Oddly enough, the Giants haven't scored more points in a 4 quarters game since. (they did score 41 in OT the following week)

And that same year Jones threw for 3,000 yards and 24 TDs and 12 INTs in 12 starts with the same players around him (minus Barkley for a few games). In four starts, Eli (all with Barkley) had 6 TDs, 5 INTs and 1,000 yards.

By the way. Eli had 2 TDs and 3 INTs that game, and 283 yards at home against a team that was 3-10. Barkley ran for 112 yards on 24 carries. Barkley also caught 4 passes, and Slayton played too.

The next week the rookie Jones threw for 352 with 5 TDs and zero INTs on the road against 3-11 Washington. Barkley ran for 189 (32 in OT) on 22 carries. Sure it was an OT game, but only one possession in OT. And only 35 of his passing yards were in OT.

A week later Jones went for 301 against the 8-7 Eagles, with one TD and one INT. Yeah, both games with the same receivers Eli had.

To say Eli outplayed Jones that year with the same players is just wrong.
This is an epic

Failure on Gettleman and Mara. While Judge takes some blame he is a rookie head coach who did NOT get a say on who his QB was. He will be given more time and a chance at picking his own QB with a new GM

How do you know Eli didn't make Bark better with the play action pass threat which is pretty much non existent with Jones because he can't throw. Eli won a super bowl with Tiki's back up. But all the jones aholics like to tout Tiki as evidence of Giants having a stacked team . They played better wo Tiki and Shockey.

Further the Gaints Defense is better now than it was in Eli's last year.

OLook Jones basically sucks. Whatever he did in his rookie year was not sustainable. Fumbling 40 times was not sustainable. You cannot win games like that. Putting up meaningless numbers like 24 TDs 24 TDs does not mean shit when you don't win games. And Glennon played a 1/2 ; was thrown into the middle of a game and threw TD and 200 yeards. It is easy to rack up numbers when you are playing from behind.
