Looking at Google Nest vs Eccobee. Don't need anything fancy just need it to work. This would be for an airbnb, so being able to lock the temp settings would be a bonus.
it's awesome...only issue I had was that I didn't have a common wire readily available...I managed to easily rectify that. Love the app....very easy to use.
may not be compatible with a Wi-Fi thermostat. We bought a Sensi at one contractor's recommendation. He was unavailable to do the install so had a separate one come. I think it was a "c-wire" or maybe a "common wire" that he said was not part of the existing wiring, necessitating him to drop a new line from the unit down to the opening in order to operate the Wi-Fi thermostat. Wasn't a huge deal, but was an added expense.
1. Ecobee has a big advantage over Nest in that it comes with (and you can supplement additional) room temperature sensors that wirelessly feed temperature data to the Ecobee. That allows you to ensure that cold, drafty or warm, stuffy rooms in the house reach the desired temperatures when your equipment is running.
2. I would not recommend installing Ecobees yourself unless you know your way around electrical wiring and HVAC equipment. In some cases you'll need to run new wires from your Ecobee to your furnace, air handler or other equipment to ensure it works properly. This is not a DIY project for someone who has watched a couple of YouTube videos. Find a good electrician that knows their way around smart thermostats and you won't regret it.
For $25 a unit on Earth Day, and I installed them this week. I ran into the c-wire issue as stated in a previous post. Google came out with the Nest power adapter, which is a substitute for the c-wire. It was easy to install myself, although if you have zones, you’ll need an adapter for each zone.

It's basic, but it's great. Have an app on the phone and can set temp, away schedule, etc.

Would love to hear why..
