Keep Rees will be interesting. They are both young and appear to really engage the players. Very different feel for ND but I love it.
Should keep most of their recruits in what is probably their best class in 15 years or so. Freeman added a lot of juice on that end as I think Kelly became a guy that thought his name was big enough to entice kids.
We will know a lot soon though as we get a new years 6 bowl, unless the shit hits the fan somewhere and we make the playoff, and then start off @ Ohio State next year
Staying at ND rather than following Kelly to LSU, shows a lot about the respect for the program and will generate reciprocal respect from current players/recruits. Excellent hire by ND, they got it right and made a bad situation look like a coup for the program. Good luck to the Irish and here's to a future NC under this regime.
I had wanted Fickell when I saw that Kelly was leaving
but I’ve come around on this. Highest upside move they could make. Excited to see how this goes.
As much as you hate Kelly they are able to take this risk because he has the program in a very good spot. I dont think he was a good enough recruiter (and that's putting it nicely, he barely recruited) to get them over the top. Freeman will be an animal on the trail
is being lead by a 35 year old and a 29 year old. College football has changed so much but I think they did a great job keeping both Freeman and promoting him and keeping Rees.

Kelly’s lazy recruiting is part of why I hated him (among many other things). Freeman’s work in the area is what makes this so exciting.
I’d like to see them being in a few veterans onto the offensive side to work with Rees. Maybe hire Cutcliffe as an analyst/consultant? Maybe he can get little Manning to take a visit. Curious who they go with for OL coach.
No way do they hire him without getting to be around him for a year. Everyone thought he was headed to LSU and Kelly convinced him to come to ND.
I know people hate Kelly for the way he left but he deserves a lot of credit for getting the program to where it is right now after the mess Weis and Willingham left.
but, I was never a huge fan of his. He sucked at recruiting and it was always his staff that was fantastic. Freeman is the right choice, the players/recruits LOVE him.
Look forward to see how he does. He is a great recruiter. Learned from Kelley and Fickle.
My concerns are as follows:
Lack of HC experience
If he fails how far back does it set us (Look at FSU).
I would be wary if any new HC who does not have a record of established winning.
As an ND fan, I'm not terrified of facing OSU to open up next season. Yeah, we'll be underdogs, but ND is going to be damn good these next couple of seasons. Look at their recruiting...ND has been killing it, in large part to Marcus. Had we not hired Freeman, there's a good chance we'd have an OU like recruiting exodus, but that's not happening now. It is amazing how many current, future, & ex ND guys were vouching for Freeman.

If you're going to play OSU you're far better off playing them week 1 than like week 8. It will be a really tough game but they wont be overmatched
when he took over....It is now time to take it to the next level and Freeman could be the guy to do it.
Jints, I too appreciate what BK built up. He inherited a mess from Weis & did well. That said, I'm still in a FU mood towards him. SI had an article out earlier that had BK looking for the exits for awhile; his agent inquired about Florida gig. So this idea that this all came together in 24 hours or so...pure horseshit.
me too man

Congrats on getting your man.
Now about this "legit title contender these next couple of years" part... ;)

They play OSU next year!?1? That can't be. Dpinzow told us that Notre Dame wants nothing to do with playing Ohio State

Hartline would be a huge get, but I can't see him making that lateral move. I don't see how Hartline leaves for anything less than an OC position.
Did ya hear Brian Kelly with his fake southern accent the other day?
