Belichick Can Restore GMEN To Glory

LTIsTheGreatest : 12/2/2021 9:45 am
If the Pats can somehow win the SB this year, without Brady, maybe BB will realize that he has accomplished everything he possibly could in NE and would finally look for a new challenge. And the one job he would leave NE for would be to be GM of the Giants. He loves the Giant organization and handing him the keys to the kingdom here could convince him to leave NE for. He could hand off the reigns to Josh McDaniels, who has not taken any other HC job becuase he still has hopes of succeeding Bellichick one day.
He's not

That time, that possibility has passed. I thought there was a chance last time around but no, it is time to let the BB to NYG's go.
all due respect

I suspect even after Bill retires it won't finally die until he does.

Belichik has not spent his entire time in New England pining away for another chance to be a Giant. Yes, he got wistful on “A Football Life” several years ago. That was a guy with fond memories, not unfulfilled life goals.

Do we need another thread designation for “Fan Fiction?”
Giants are more likely to get...

For one thing, Belichick isn't an idiot, for all of his little spats with Robert Kraft, he knows Patriots ownership and their franchise structure is a million times better than what the Maras have built here.

And honestly, I don't think John Mara is smart enough or willing to turn the entire football operation over to Belichick - which is depressing.
Some time in the year 2077 there will still be Giants fans who swear
Ten Ton Hammer : 12/2/2021 9:59 am : link
Bill Belichick really wants to be here.

There have been enough rumblings from sources, including players, that at certain points in time, both Cowher (ship sailed a long time ago) and Belichick (not so long ago) both had at least tepid interest in the NYG job. I wouldn't completely discount it.

We also know that Parcells wanted to come back at one point.
yeah,but it will be

Has a soft spot for the organization but now that the tension with Brady is past I don’t see why he would change at this stage of his life.
At one point when Coughlin was exiting
JonC : 12/2/2021 10:20 am : link
the Belicheck talk was absolutely out there, and one other time after that. But, it's very likely he wanted control at the level the Maras would be much less involved, and it was nixed because of it. And, the compensation because Kraft is paying him beyond top dollar most likely.

I'd agree the ship has sailed, he's 70 and has a terrific situation in NE, left to his own devices etc.
Reports say he reached out after the 2017 season..
Sean : 12/2/2021 10:27 am : link
But, I guess Mara wanted Gettleman/Shurmur instead.

In all seriousness, Giants need to stop looking to their past to solve the future.

And this is why I’m not optimistic the Giants are going to get out of the league’s basement until someone has an intervention with Mara. He’s too rigid and needs to delegate. If Belichick was interested he should have given him anything he wanted: money control and even 10% ownership in the team.

I think so too...or at least I think it was out there but Mara found his moral compass again and played things by the book.

I hope I am wrong.

McAdoo and Judge were not at all linked to the NYG way, past or present.

Maybe we should look to the past. The last time we did we hired Coughlin.

No

If I were him I'd stay right where I am

Running the whole show

Being GM-only for Bill would be painful for him

Its good to be the King.

Tom Brady did an end around on him insisting Garapolo be traded but Tom is gone

Also the Giants need a lot of fixing and Bill does not want another Cleveland on his Resume

Would be nice though, but only if you gave him the whole show- GM/HC

The Patriots were off to a horrible start and after Drew Bledsoe got hurt it looked like things would only get worse. And this was following a 5-11 season in 2000. I had visions of Belichick being fired and returning to the Giants as their Defensive Coordinator (I was certain John Fox would be leaving for a head coaching job in 2002). Of course, Brady replaced Bledsoe, the Pats won the Super Bowl, and the rest is...

UberAlias : 12/2/2021 11:34 am : link
He's too old for that. What is more likely is that they bring in a GM with NE roots to work alongside Judge. And if rumors are true that JG was forced on Judge, we have a very long way to go in terms of creating something that resembles what they have in NE.
So can Lombardi.

Having Garrett as a backstop/babysitter

Probably looked good in 2018

In hindsight it was a horrible horrible decision that set us back years

Too boot Garrett had a bad resume as an OC.....what was Mara thinking?

In my mind Garrett's love affair with Jerry Jones made it beyond horrible...

Did you get the video yet of Jerrah handing Garrett a paper sack of money in the back of the Vincent T. Lombardi Memorial Rest Area. I think that was the "drop" point.

We've just about run though all former Giants assistants to turn into head coaching candidates, have we not?

Other franchises have coaching talent too.

We've only just begun being fascinated by the Belichick coaching and executive tree, so I would expect they'll keep going to this well.
Working for the Mara’s is a big negative
joe48 : 12/2/2021 12:21 pm : link
Until they hand the keys over to the GM and just count the money we will not get a top experienced GM talent.

McAdoo was the OC when he was promoted to HC.

How broadly do you want to approach this? Results aside, his path to HC was basically identical to Parcells'.
The chances of BB coming back to the Giants..

is about as remote as you finding your girlfriend from freshman year in high school and convincing her to leave her family of 30 years to run away with you.
I think Bill loves the history of the league
Lines of Scrimmage : 12/2/2021 12:55 pm : link
and the Giants are such a big part of it. We may not always be happy with ownership but it is pretty rare when you hear anyone speak without high regard for the organization and how they treat people imo.
I don’t think he would ever come as a coach
Carl in CT : 12/2/2021 1:11 pm : link
A GM with his son taking over a team might be possible. But the million dollar question would be can his son handle? His track is way better as a coach then his player decisions in NE. But he just wins and that’s the bottom line.
He has a good young QB
AcesUp : 12/2/2021 1:17 pm : link
It ain't happening. Belichick is a little bit of an opportunist and he's in a good spot there now. I think there was a vulnerability there a couple of years back when the Belichick/Brady relationship was starting to crack and the talent on the team was on the downswing. Not anymore.

Kraft was involved and I think that is when the Giant rumors were the strongest. They lost to Philly that year in the Super Bowl. It kind of reminded me of when Parcells had issues with Kraft and they also lost in the Super Bowl. Parcells was with the Jets the following year. I was holding out hope with BB.

I remember it that way as well. It's crazy how that dynamic was able to run it's course, fracture, rebuild and contend all in the time that this franchise has been chasing its own tail in East Rutherford.

LOL what an image

No Homer I didnt but you can use venmo, coinbase, zelle
no need for the paper bag anymore

having said that I actually knew the son of a famous mobster
they use currency, bags, shovels and maps...for real

Having said all that send me the video LOL

You know whats tragic....Garretts effect lives on.
Jones confidence is destroyed and he will likely take the free agency route out of town, if he does come back to 2018 form...

He needs a rousing finish under Freddie. Even under Garrett we are 3 out of 5 the last 5 games

I'm looking for a run here 10-7
